Draft Scouting Report
Teddye Buchanan is a big, sleek and twitchy off-ball linebacker with a high-motor and an energetic style. His range is a clear strength, aided by impressive burst and the ability to sustain speed in pursuit. While his length is adequate, his quick reactions and plus athleticism compensate. Buchanan’s blitzing ability stands out with his explosion, closing speed and fearless approach, although edge rushing won’t likely be a major part of his NFL game.
In coverage, Buchanan shows solid instincts, spatial awareness and ball skills. He processes route concepts well but has room to refine his techniques. His block-defeating skills are functional, often slipping past blockers rather than engaging directly. A reliable tackler with a quick recovery ability, his aggressive style can sometimes lead him to bite on play-action or misdirection. As an older prospect, Buchanan's developmental upside may be slightly limited, but his athleticism, versatility and competitive edge make him an intriguing sleeper at linebacker.
- 2024: First-team All-ACC (team-high 114 tackles and 12.0 tackles for loss)
- 2023 (at Cal-Davis); Second-team All-Big Sky
- Plays with urgency and an energetic, high-motor style
- Impressive burst and range, with strong blitzing and pursuit skills
- Reliable tackler with a solid base of coverage skills and spatial awareness
- Tends to bite on misdirection and play action, losing his assignment
- Needs to improve ball skills and overall coverage instincts
- Lacks refinement as a blocker and can be overwhelmed by stronger offensive linemen

Ravens' Teddye Buchanan: Joining flock in Baltimore
The Ravens selected Buchanan in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 129th overall.
Buchanan spent the first three years of his college career at UC-Davis before joining Cal in his final season, where he went on to lead that team in tackles (114), sacks (5.0) and tackles for loss (12.0), earning him First Team All-ACC honors in 2024. Having a history under center, Buchanan possesses a high football IQ, which he utilizes to his advantage on the defensive side, allowing him to quickly digest plays in the middle of the defense. He'll try to carve out a role in the middle for the Ravens and may be asked to help on special teams as well.
