Draft Scouting Report
Vernon Broughton, like teammate Alfred Collins, put his best year on tape as a full-time starter getting almost twice the amount of reps (589) as he did the previous season. Excellent quickness and twitch and ability to be disruptive in both phases. Broughton has a nice combination of power and quickness to be a rotational player as a rookie as a 3-technique.
- Career: 55 games (16 starts)
- 2024: Breakout season with career highs in tackles (39), sacks (4.0) and forced fumbles (two) in his first year as a full-time starter
- Has suddenness and quickness to work ½ a man as a pass rusher and affect the quarterback.
- Excellent lateral quickness to win 1-on-1 run blocks and pursues with excellent motor
- High IQ block recognition and the ability to defeat blockers with natural instincts quickly
- Can struggle vs. double teams at the point and gets rooted out at times
- Not overly productive in five seasons despite showing excellent athleticism in compact areas
- Not versatile enough to play the 0-2i consistently

Saints' Vernon Broughton: Saints add third-round DT help
The Saints selected Broughton in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 71st overall.
Broughton (6-foot-5, 311 pounds) has freakish reach (35-inch arms) and provided plenty of quality snaps for Texas over the last five years. However, that wingspan outpaces his anchor, and without the latter it's not clear what standout utility he offers. Broughton was statistically one of the least disruptive players in the Texas front seven, so there's no results-based case for why he would be especially effective in the NFL. Broughton didn't start until his fifth collegiate season, so his NFL ceiling might be that of a rotational player.
