  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Collects third win

Jansen (3-2) picked up the win Friday, giving up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning as the Angels downed the Diamondbacks 6-5. He didn't walk or strike out a batter. The veteran closer got the call in a tie game to handle the top of the ninth, and Jansen got through the top of Arizona's order on just 10 pitches (eight strikes) thanks to a Lourdes Gurriel double-play grounder. Jansen has two wins and a save in his last three appearances, and he hasn't allowed an earned run since June 15, posting a 0.82 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over his last 11 innings to go along with that pristine ERA. The Angels are still on the fringes of the AL wild-card race, but if they decide to be sellers at the trade deadline, Jansen could fetch a decent return even as a 37-year-old rental.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches first save in three weeks

Jansen earned a save against the Rangers on Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning. After the Angels rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take an 11-8 lead, Jansen was summoned to close things out in the ninth. He gave up a one-out double but nothing more to nail down his first save since June 18. The save drought wasn't really of Jansen's doing -- he blew just one save during that span and hasn't given up an earned run in any of his past 10 appearances, notching a 13:2 K:BB over 10 innings during that stretch. The veteran closer has been effective in his first season as an Angel, converting 16 of 17 save chances while posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB over 33.2 innings spanning 37 appearances.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Blows save Sunday

Jansen allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take a blown save in Sunday's 7-4 extra-innings loss to Nationals. Jansen hadn't pitched since June 24, which was his return from a pectoral cramp that shortened his appearance the day before. Despite being fresh, the Nationals were able to scrape together the tying run with a Jacob Young RBI single in the ninth inning. This was Jansen's first blown save of the year -- he had converted his first 15 save chances, though he's occasionally struggled in non-save situations. The veteran closer is at a 4.40 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB over 28.2 innings this season. Jansen has logged 25-plus saves in every full-length campaign since 2012, so one blown save is not going to be enough to cost him his role.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Back in action Tuesday

Jansen (pectoral) walked one in a scoreless and hitless inning in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Red Sox. Jansen exited his appearance Monday due to a pectoral cramp, but he downplayed the severity of the injury after that game. That proved to be true, as he was able to return to the mound a day later, and while he needed 21 pitches (16 strikes) to complete his inning, he kept the game tied at 1-1 in the ninth. Jansen has allowed a modest three runs, including two homers, over 10.1 innings in June, adding four saves and a 9:3 K:BB in that span. He's at a 4.23 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB over 27.2 innings this season while converting all 15 of his save chances so far.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Avoids significant injury

Jansen left Monday's game against Boston due to a cramp in his right pectoral, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Jansen is expected to be fine after leaving Monday's game unexpectedly. The club will presumably check on him again in the morning, but Jansen stated in the clubhouse after the game that he'll be available for Tuesday's matchup, per Bollinger.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Exits with injury

Jansen left Monday's game against the Red Sox with an apparent injury, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Jansen's velocity was notably down upon entering the game, and he left with the team trainer after throwing four pitches. The right-hander can be considered day-to-day until the team has more information to share on his availability moving forward.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down 15th save

Jansen earned the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Yankees, striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. After Paul Goldschmidt reached on an error to start the ninth, Jansen managed to set down the next three Yankees to seal the Angels' one-run victory and deliver his second straight scoreless outing. The veteran Jansen is a perfect 15-for-15 in save chances this season despite posting a mediocre 4.56 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP over 25.2 innings.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gets last out Monday

Jansen recorded the final out in Monday's 7-4 win over the Athletics. Shaun Anderson allowed two runs in a non-save situation in the ninth inning, prompting Jansen's entry with two outs and the bases empty. Jansen was tidy, getting a groundout from Luis Urias on three pitches to end the game. Jansen has pitched much better in save situations than non-save situations this season, in part because he gave up six earned runs May 2 in a non-save situation. He's now at a 4.57 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB while earning 14 saves over 21.2 innings this season.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gives up homer, secures save

Jansen allowed a run on one hit over one inning to earn the save in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Mariners. Jansen gave up a solo home run to Cal Raleigh in the ninth inning, but the Mariners weren't able to make a rally of it. This was Jansen's second save in as many days, which likely means he won't be available for closing duties if a save chance surfaces Sunday. The veteran closer is up to 14 saves on the year while adding a 4.64 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across 21.1 innings. He's already given up five homers this season, but the one he allowed Saturday is the first one that's come during a save situation.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Converts 13th save

Jansen struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Mariners. Jansen has six saves and a win over his last eight appearances, allowing two runs across 8.1 innings in that span. The veteran closer had his share of shaky moments in May, but he remains a perfect 13-for-13 in save chances this season. He's done that despite a 4.43 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across 20.1 innings. While chances to close have been somewhat limited for a mediocre Angels club, Jansen is getting the job done when his number is called.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Nabs win in ninth Tuesday

Jansen (1-2) walked two and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record the win in a 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Red Sox. Rather than hold Jansen back for a potential save situation, Angels manager Ron Washington sent his closer to the mound in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game tied at 3-3. While pinch runner David Hamilton did get to third base thanks to two stolen bases, Jansen stranded him by striking out Wilyer Abreu and coaxing a groundout from Romy Gonzalez. Reid Detmers then worked the 10th for the save when the Halos pushed a run across in the top of the frame. Since the beginning of May, Jansen has posted a shaky 7.94 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 11.1 innings, but he hasn't blown any of his six save chances during that time and his job as closer doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Cleanly works save

Jansen worked a clean ninth inning, striking out one, to pick up the save during Monday's 7-6 win over the Red Sox. Jansen's ERA might look a bit unsightly, but one bad outing is bringing down the 37-year-old's 4.91 ERA. When there's an opportunity to lock down a game, he has been as reliable as they come, converting a perfect 12-of-12 save chances with 11 strikeouts and only one run allowed in those appearances.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Earns 10th save

Jansen allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over one inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Athletics. Jansen gave up a run in a save situation for the first time this season, but he had a three-run cushion to work with. He's had a heavy workload of late, pitching four of the last five days, which may explain his struggles Tuesday. The 37-year-old is up to 10 saves while adding a 5.28 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 15.1 innings. Should a save situation arise Wednesday, Ryan Zeferjahn, Brock Burke or Hector Neris could be options to step in, as it's unlikely Jansen will be asked to pitch three days in a row.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down ninth save

Jansen allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Monday's 4-3 win over the Athletics. Jansen has kept runs off the board in his last three outings, spanning 3.1 innings. The veteran closer was able to picked up his ninth save of the season Monday, and his second save in three days, with a 16-pitch outing. He remains a perfect 9-for-9 in save chances while pitching to a 5.02 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB over 14.1 innings.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures four-out save

Jansen allowed a hit over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Saturday's 11-9 win over the Dodgers. He did not strike out or walk a batter. Jansen has covered 2.1 scoreless innings versus one of his old teams in this weekend's series. He got through this outing with 16 pitches (13 strikes) while earning his first save since May 3. It's been a bumpy month for the veteran closer, but he's taken care of business in save situations. On the year, he has a 5.40 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.1 innings, but he's been scored upon only in non-save situations while converting all eight of his save chances.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gives up walk-off homer

Jansen (0-2) allowed two runs on a hit and a walk while failing to record an out, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Padres. Jansen walked Elias Diaz and gave up a walk-off home run to Fernando Tatis in the ninth inning. This was not a save situation, as the game was tied when Jansen took the mound. Over five appearances in May, he's allowed eight runs across three innings while taking both of his losses on the year. Those two outings are the only ones in which he's been scored upon, but they have him at an unsightly 6.55 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB over 11 innings. He's still 7-for-7 in save chances, and he'll likely keep the closer role if he can avoid melting down in save situations.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Makes appearance in loss

Jansen allowed one hit in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning during Friday's 4-1 loss to the Orioles. He did not record a strikeout or a walk. Jansen entered in the top of the ninth with the Angels facing a three-run deficit and got some work in after battling an illness earlier this week. This was his first appearance since May 3. With his ailment seemingly in the rearview mirror, Jansen should soon add to his total of 454 career saves (fourth all time).

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Fighting off illness

Jansen was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays due to an illness, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Jansen hasn't pitched since he collected his seventh save of the season Saturday. Manager Ron Washington said after Tuesday's game that the veteran reliever should be available out of the bullpen in Wednesday's contest, though that will ultimately depend on how the right-hander is feeling. Jansen owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 9.1 innings on the season, though all the runs scored against him came during a six-run barrage from the Tigers on Friday.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures save No. 7

Jansen retired the only two batters he faced in Saturday's win against the Tigers to earn his seventh save of the season. The 37-year-old wasn't expected to be needed Saturday since the Angels entered the ninth inning leading 5-1, but Brock Burke was unable to finish things out and created a save situation. Jansen's previous appearance Thursday was a disaster as he gave up six runs on three homers in a non-save situation, but that's the only time in 10 outings this season he's been charged with a run. His 5.79 ERA and 1.39 WHIP are inflated due to that stumble, but Jansen has a 9:2 K:BB while converting all seven of his save chances this year.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches fifth save

Jansen worked a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Giants. He didn't walk or strike out a batter. Three flyball outs got the job done for Jansen, who has begun the season going 5-for-5 in converting save chances and has yet to give up a run in seven innings. While he could be a candidate to get flipped at the trade deadline if the Angels fall out of contention, that hasn't been a concern in the early going -- the Halos sit second in the AL West with a 10-9 record.
