  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Breaks homerless streak Sunday

Arenado went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 6-1 win at Washington. With his 385-foot homer in the eighth inning off reliever Brad Lord, the veteran third baseman snapped an 11-game stretch without a long ball. Over that span, Arenado hit .256 (11-for-43) with a double, four runs scored and two RBI. Despite cracking only four homers through 159 plate appearances so far, Arenado has produced a solid .270/.352/.426 slash line with 19 runs scored and 16 RBI across 37 games.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Returns to Cardinals' lineup

Arenado (back) will start at third base and bat cleanup in Friday's game versus the Nationals. Arenado was a late scratch from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday due to back spasms, but he's feeling well enough to play following the team's off day Thursday. The veteran third baseman will carry a modest four-game hitting streak into Friday's series opener.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Nursing back spasms

Arenado was scratched from Wednesday's lineup versus the Pirates due to back spasms, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado was scratched just minutes before first pitch and replaced at third base by Nolan Gorman. He should be considered day-to-day for the time being, and Arenado will receive an additional day of rest with the Cardinals having a scheduled off day Thursday.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Scratched from lineup

Arenado was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup versus the Pirates, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports. The Cardinals haven't provided an explanation for Arenado's late removal from the lineup, but he's presumably dealing with a minor injury that should be revealed shortly. Nolan Gorman will start at third base and will bat sixth in place of Arenado.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Four hits in Sunday's doubleheader

Arenado went 4-for-8 with one RBI, one walk and one run scored over both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mets. Entering Sunday, Arenado had gone 11 games without a multi-hit effort before posting a pair of two-hit contests in the twin bill. The third baseman was 6-for-43 (.140) over that mediocre stretch. Arenado started the year positively before his recent fade, but he's at a respectable .254/.341/.402 slash line with three home runs, 14 RBI, 14 runs scored, nine doubles and one stolen base over 32 games this season.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Sitting in second game of twin bill

Arenado is not in the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Cincinnati. After going 0-for-5 in the first game of the twin bill, Arenado will receive some rest for the nightcap. Nolan Gorman is at third base and batting sixth in the second game for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Slugs walk-off homer

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk in Saturday's 6-5 victory over Milwaukee. Arenado took Milwaukee closer Trevor Megill deep to end the game in the bottom of the ninth, popping a 385-foot solo shot to left field. The long ball snapped a nine-game stretch without a home run, over which the veteran third baseman struggled to a .182 average (6-for-33). Overall, Arenado is now slashing .266/.267/.447 with three homers, 13 runs scored and 12 RBI across 109 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Not in Sunday's lineup

Arenado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. Arenado will head to the bench for just the second time this season, and he had a .211/.333/.368 slash line while starting the previous 11 contests. Nolan Gorman will start at the hot corner and bat seventh in the series finale at New York.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Crushes three extra-base hits

Arenado went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two total runs and two total RBI in Monday's 8-3 victory versus the Astros. Arenado led a potent Cardinals offense that racked up eight extra-base hits against Astros pitching. Among his knocks were a seventh-inning solo homer and a fifth-inning run-scoring double. Arenado has run hot and cold this season -- he began the campaign with a nine-game hitting streak, then failed to get a hit while going 0-for-14 over his next five contests. The veteran third baseman may be in the midst of another hot streak, though, as he's gone 5-for-8 with four extra-base hits over his past two games.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Returns to St. Louis lineup

Arenado (illness) will start at third base and bat cleanup in Tuesday's game versus the Pirates. Arenado missed Monday's series opener due to illness and general soreness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday as the Cardinals look to even the series. The veteran third baseman has baseball's longest active hitting streak at 15 games, dating back to last season.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Out Monday with illness, soreness

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Arenado was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates due to an illness and soreness, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The illness isn't believed to be anything significant, but Arenado will need at least one day off to recover. With Arenado out of the lineup for the first time this season, Thomas Saggese will pick up a start at third base and will bat sixth.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Shows off power

Arenado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Twins. Arenado delivered an insurance home run in the ninth inning to help the Cardinals to an Opening Day win. He turned on a 97-mph fastball, which is encouraging, though his struggles in 2024 came primarily against off-speed and breaking pitches.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Searching for hits this spring

Arenado is just 4-for-30 with one home run in his first 12 Grapefruit League games. While the numbers aren't good, Arenado insists that he's "seeing the ball really well" this spring after having a "really hard time picking up the ball" last spring, per MLB.com. After an offseason of trade rumors, Arenado remains in St. Louis and will again be the club's everyday third baseman. He'll seek to bounce back offensively in 2025 after slashing a disappointing .272/.325/.394 with 16 home runs over 152 contests last season.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Trade now considered unlikely

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Thursday that it's now likelier Arenado is the team's Opening Day third baseman than it is he's traded, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado nixed a potential trade to the Astros in December and the Red Sox are no longer a potential landing spot after they signed Alex Bregman. Discussions with Arenado's other approved destinations have beared little fruit, so unless that changes or the player expands his list of teams to which he would approve a trade, it appears the 33-year-old is staying put. The domino effect is likely Nolan Gorman staying at second base, Brendan Donovan primarily playing left field and Lars Nootbaar shifting to center.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Willing to play first base

Arenado is willing to play some first base in order to create roster flexibility for the team acquiring him in a potential trade, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. A large part of Arenado's value comes from his defense at third base, so it's not clear how many clubs would be looking to shift him to the other side of the diamond even on a part-time basis. Still, some flexibility can't hurt, and the fact he's even willing to entertain the possibility also seems to speak to Arenado's eagerness to waive his no-trade clause. Woo notes that a few teams have expressed interest in Arenado, but those talks "have yet to yield any substantive progress." However, negotiations are expected to pick up around the winter meetings and there is a "growing sense" in the industry that Arenado will be dealt.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Trade possibilities to be explored

The Cardinals are expected to gauge trade interest in Arenado this month, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Wednesday that at least one of the team's four players with no-trade clauses is open to the club exploring trade interest from other teams. It seems that player is Arenado, who is owed $74 million over the next three seasons (with $10 million of that being covered by the Rockies). Arenado will turn 34 in April and fell off to a .272/.325/.394 batting line with 16 home runs in 2024, although he was a Gold Glove finalist at third base. There would figure to be plenty of interest in the eight-time All-Star even as he's coming off a down season, although trade talks will be complicated since Arenado can essentially dictate his landing spot.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Taking seat Saturday

Arenado isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Arenado has gone 9-for-25 with two RBI and three runs scored during his six-game hitting streak, but he'll take a seat Saturday for the second time in St. Louis' last three games. Thomas Saggese will get an opportunity to start at third base while batting seventh.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Posts three hits in win

Arenado went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Giants. Arenado has gone 15-for-42 (.357) over his last 11 games to produce a strong end to the year. His double Friday was just his second extra-base hit in that span, and while his bat has been more consistent lately, he has just one homer over 23 games in September. Overall, the third baseman has a .272/.325/.394 slash line, 16 homers, 71 RBI, 70 runs scored, 23 doubles and two stolen bases over 152 contests this season.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Getting breather Thursday

Arenado is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado. Arenado will get a day off in his old stomping grounds after going 2-for-9 with one run scored in the first two games of the series. Jose Fermin will handle third base as the Cardinals attempt the sweep.
