  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Goes six scoreless in win

Taillon (8-10) earned the win Friday, allowing four hits and four walks over six scoreless innings against Colorado. He struck out seven. Taillon didn't have his best command, but all four hits he allowed were singles in what wound up being a 6-0 shutout victory for the host Cubs. The 31-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA from 5.27 to 5.05 in the process and will look to push it below 5.00 in his final regular-season start next week at Milwaukee.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Next start pushed back

Taillon is not scheduled to start during the three-game series with the Pirates that begins Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Taillon would have taken the ball against the Pirates had he remained on regular rest, but the Cubs announced their starters for the three-game set Monday, and Taillon was not among them. It remains to be seen if he will be pushed back or skipped altogether, but don't expect to see him on the mound until Friday at the earliest.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Takes 10th loss Wednesday

Taillon (7-10) allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Rockies. He walked one and struck out five. Coors Field is a notoriously tough venue for pitchers, and Taillon endured his share of struggles, as he took a 10th loss in a season for the second time in his seven-year MLB career. The righty has disappointed in his first campaign with the Cubs, as he now has a 5.27 ERA after posting a 3.91 ERA for the Yankees in 2022. Taillon will look for better results in his next outing, which is tentatively set for Sept. 20 against the Pirates at home, which looks like an easier spot.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Allows two homers in loss

Taillon (7-10) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against Colorado. He struck out five. Taillon looked sharp early, retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced on the afternoon. However, he began to struggle as the game went on. He surrendered five runs between the fourth and fifth innings, though two of those runs wouldn't be charged to him on account of a fielding error by Ian Happ. The right-hander has now lost his last four decisions and has given up multiple home runs in three of his last four outings. On a positive note, he holds a 26:2 K:BB over that stretch.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Twirls six shutout innings

Taillon threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts but did not factor into the decision Friday as the Cubs lost to the Diamondbacks. He allowed one hit and one walk. Taillon stymied the Diamondbacks and completing his six shutout innings in a tidy 77 pitches while generating 12 swinging strikes, but he got out-dueled by Zac Gallen. Those whiffs led to a 38.9 percent CSW rate on the afternoon for Taillon, well above his 25.8 percent rate on the season coming into this start. It was a welcome turnaround for the right-hander after he posted an ugly 7.86 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 26.1 innings over his five prior starts.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Gives up five runs in no-decision

Taillon did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings against the Reds. He struck out seven. The Reds got to Taillon early, tallying four runs on three homers in the first two innings. The right-hander ultimately settled down, however, holding Cincinnati off the board until the sixth inning. Following a four-start winning streak, Taillon's struggled of late, posting a 7.86 ERA over his last five starts. He's 7-9 on the season with a 5.73 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 113:33 K:BB across 25 starts (127.1 innings) this season. Taillon's currently in line for a home matchup with the Diamondbacks in his next outing.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Falters in ninth loss

Taillon (7-9) took the loss against Milwaukee on Monday, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings. Taillon got blitzed by the Brewers in the first frame, serving up a pair of homers -- including a leadoff shot by Christian Yelich on his third pitch of the game -- and four runs overall. He was better after that, giving up just an unearned run and five hits the rest of the way, but the initial inning was too much for the Cubs to overcome. Taillon has dropped three of his past four outings, posting a 7.84 ERA over 20.2 frames during that span. The poor stretch comes immediately after an impressive six-game run during which he went 5-0 with a 2.17 ERA across 37.1 innings.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Pitches decently in no-decision

Taillon allowed four runs on four hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Tigers. He walked one and struck out six. Taillon kept the Tigers off the board for five innings, but things came undone a bit in the sixth, as he allowed three singles followed by a grand slam to the red-hot Kerry Carpenter. That spoiled an otherwise good outing for the righty, who has been up and down this year with a 5.60 ERA. Taillon will look to avoid the big inning in his next start, which is tentatively set for Monday against the Brewers, which shapes up to be an important game as the teams fight for the NL Central title.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Saddled with tough-luck loss

Taillon (7-8) took the loss Friday, yielding four runs (two earned) on six hits against the Royals. He struck out three without walking a batter. It goes down as a quality start despite Taillon losing his second straight decision. This effort was indisputably better than the last one though, with the right-hander taking a lead into the sixth inning before serving up a two-run shot to Bobby Witt. Taillon has mostly been good since the start of July, posting a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB through his last 51.1 innings.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Dominant in win

Taillon (7-6) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on three hits without walking a batter over seven innings against the Mets. He struck out seven. After surrendering a base hit to Jeff McNeil followed by a two-run shot to Pete Alonso in the first inning, Taillon allowed just one more baserunner and proceeded to retire the final 16 Mets he faced. The 31-year-old righty has now earned a win in four consecutive outings, posting a 2.28 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 23.2 innings during that stretch. Taillon will look to keep the win streak alive in his next start, which is projected to be early next week against the struggling White Sox.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Continues to roll Thursday

Taillon (6-6) earned the win over Cincinnati on Thursday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five batters over five-plus innings. It wasn't the breeziest outing for the right-hander, as he notched just one 1-2-3 inning and needed 92 pitches to get through five-plus frames. However, Taillon got the job done, collecting his fourth win in his past five starts to get his record to .500 for the first time this season. The veteran hurler has turned things around since a poor July 2 outing against Cleveland that pushed his season ERA to 6.93 -- over his subsequent five starts, he's posted a 2.08 ERA over 30.1 innings despite a mediocre 23:10 K:BB. Taillon will look to keep rolling in his next start, which currently lines up to be a road matchup against the Mets.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Nabs win Saturday

Taillon (5-6) earned the win over St. Louis on Saturday, pitching six innings and allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out four batters. Taillon ran into trouble in the first inning, allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base, with one of them scoring. An inning-ending double play off the bat of Nolan Arenado ended the threat, and after Taillon walked the bases full in the third, he retired the final 10 batters he faced en route to his third quality start of the campaign. The veteran right-hander held an ugly 6.93 ERA following a poor performance against Cleveland on July 2, but he's since lowered that mark to 5.46 on the back of a strong four-start stretch during which he's yielded just four runs over 25.1 frames.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Cruises to fourth win

Taillon (4-6) allowed one run on seven hits across 5.2 innings to earn the win Sunday against the Cardinals. He walked one and struck out six. It's mostly been a lost season for Taillon, though he's been better lately. Over his last three starts, he's allowed just four earned runs across 19.1 innings, picking up two wins in the process, including Sunday in the comfortable 7-2 Chicago victory. The righty's overall ERA is still an unsightly 5.75, but it looks like he's trending in the right direction. Taillon will aim to keep his momentum going in his next outing, which is projected to come Saturday against this same St. Louis squad.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Falls shy of quality start

Taillon did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.2 innings against the Nationals. He struck out four. Taillon came up one out short of his second consecutive quality start, being pulled at 92 pitches after 5.2 innings. The 31-year-old got off to a sluggish start Tuesday before settling in, serving up a solo homer to Lane Thomas in the first and then giving up a pair of runs before recording an out in the second inning. After giving up four or more runs in three straight starts, Taillon has allowed three runs over his last two starts (13.2 innings) combined. He's tentatively next lined up to take on the Cardinals, which rocked Taillon for four runs and two homers over 2.2 innings during their last meeting.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Blanks former club for win

Taillon (3-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing one hit and two walks over eight scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Yankees. He struck out four. Gleyber Torres rapped a single in the first inning, and that was all the Yankees could manager off the right-hander. Taillon fired 64 of 102 for strikes against the team he pitched for the prior two seasons, giving him just his second quality start of 2023. After a rough start to his Cubs tenure, all three of Taillon's wins have come since the beginning of June, and over his last seven outings he has a 4.69 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB through 40.1 innings.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Allows five earned runs Sunday

Taillon allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits across five innings and did not factor into the decision in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Guardians. He had no walks and struck out six. The struggles continued for Taillon, who saw his season ERA climb above 7.00. He was able to miss some bats Sunday, but he allowed five earned runs for the second consecutive start. The righty has allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last five appearances. It's been a rough first season in Chicago for Taillon, who had a much stronger 3.91 ERA for the Yankees last year. He's penciled in to start again Friday against his old team in New York and should be avoided in that spot.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Passed over for start this week

Taillon isn't expected to make another start until next week, as the Cubs have named Justin Steele and Marcus Stroman as their starters for their two-game weekend series in London versus the Cardinals, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. Taillon last pitched Sunday, so he wasn't an option to make a start during the Cubs' three-game series with the Pirates that ran Monday through Wednesday. Due to off days Thursday and Friday while they make the trip overseas, the Cubs will use the break in the schedule to reorder the rotation and have their top two starters take the hill in London. It's unclear if Taillon will be available out of the bullpen during the London series, as the Cubs may not want to overwork him ahead of his likely return to the rotation at some point during next week's three-game set with the Phillies.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Dealt fifth loss

Taillon (2-5) was charged with the loss Sunday against the Orioles after he allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks across 5.1 innings. He struck out one. The veteran right-hander kept Baltimore off the board through three innings, but he surrendered two runs in both of the fourth and sixth frames. Taillon has covered at least 5.1 frames in each of his past four starts, but he has a 4.84 ERA and has given up five homers during that stretch. He has a 6.71 ERA for the season and tentatively lines up to pitch against the Cardinals next weekend.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Notches second win

Taillon (2-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four. Taillon won his second consecutive start, going six innings while tossing 95 pitches in his longest outing of the season. After going 0-3 with an ugly 8.04 ERA in his first eight outings, the 31-year-old veteran has made modest improvements in the month of June, going 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA over three starts. The results are certainly not what the Cubs expected after signing Taillon to a four-year, $68 million deal in the offseason.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Takes loss versus Angels

Taillon (1-4) allowed four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Angels. Mike Trout and Luis Rengifo each hit solo home runs off Taillon, making this the third time in 10 starts he's allowed multiple homers. He stayed in to begin the sixth inning but faded as the Angels established a lead, and the Cubs couldn't bounce back. Taillon has allowed at least four runs in five of his last six outings, and he's still yet to complete six innings in any appearance. He's at a 7.02 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB through 42.1 innings. Taillon is projected for a home start versus the Pirates next week.
