  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Progressing toward live BP

President of baseball operations Chris Young said Eovaldi (elbow) is "trending in the right direction" after throwing a bullpen session Saturday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. The right-hander is working his way back from triceps soreness, and the next step in his rehab program will likely be facing hitters in live batting practice. Assuming Eovaldi is able to complete a live BP without issue, he'll then be evaluated to determine whether he needs another throwing session and/or a brief rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list. The Rangers are low on rotation depth after Tyler Mahle (shoulder) was placed on the IL on Sunday, so the team could be inclined to activate Eovaldi even if he's not fully stretched back out for a typical starter's workload.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: May throw bullpen this weekend

Eovaldi (triceps) could be ready to throw a bullpen session this weekend, MLB.com reports. Eovaldi recently began playing catch after undergoing further testing back in Arlington. Rehab appears to be progressing as expected for the right-hander, but he remains without a clear timeline for his return to the Rangers' rotation.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Progressing in recovery

Eovaldi (triceps) played catch prior to Wednesday's game against Minnesota, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Eovaldi landed on the 15-day injured list May 29 due to a right triceps injury. He's eligible to be reinstated from the IL on Friday, but he may need a longer stint on the shelf given that he's only recently started throwing again. Eovaldi's continued absence could allow Jacob Latz (hand) to make another start when the former's next turn through the rotation comes up Saturday versus the White Sox.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Lands on IL

The Rangers placed Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right posterior elbow inflammation. Eovaldi experienced right triceps fatigue coming out of his most recent outing Tuesday, but the Rangers were initially optimistic that he would avoid a stint on the IL after getting a few extra days of rest between starts. The right-hander told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com earlier Sunday that he was feeling good after playing catch and hoped to return to the mound Wednesday or Thursday versus the Rays, but the Rangers' brass evidently felt it was better to give him some additional time off. Per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News, general manager Chris Young reiterated that Eovaldi has nothing structurally wrong with his arm, and the Rangers believe that he'll be able to return from the IL around when he's first eligible June 13. The Rangers will replace Eovaldi in the rotation with Kumar Rocker (shoulder), who will be activated from the IL to start Wednesday.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Next start pushed back

Manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Eovaldi (triceps) will have his next turn through the rotation pushed back a few days, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. The veteran right-hander was originally expected to make his next turn through the rotation as scheduled Tuesday after departing his previous start due to triceps soreness, but the Rangers will instead take advantage of Monday's team off day to get him some extra rest. That lines up Eovaldi to pitch during next weekend's three-game set in Washington, giving him at least nine days to recover between outings.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Dealing with triceps issue

Eovaldi (triceps) exited Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays early with right triceps fatigue, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi was pulled from the game after throwing 39 pitches over two scoreless innings on the mound. The right-hander's removal from the game is considered to be for precautionary reasons and the Rangers don't expect him to miss any time. Eovaldi can be considered day-to-day for the time being, with his next projected start expected to come June 3 in Tampa Bay.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Exits early Tuesday

Eovaldi (undisclosed) exited Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays in the third inning, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi pitched two scoreless frames, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two batters before leaving the game in the top of the third. The right-hander threw 39 pitches over his two innings on the mound. It's unclear what he's dealing with, but Jacob Latz replaced him in the contest.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Shines in defeat

Eovaldi (4-3) took the loss Thursday against the Yankees, throwing six innings and surrendering a walk, five hits and just one run while striking out six. Eovaldi continues to defy Father Time and furthered a monster start to the season that's seen him give up just three earned runs across his past six starts. He may have come out on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel with Carlos Rodon on Thursday afternoon, but Eovaldi's season-long stats continue to sparkle as one of the bright spots for the up-and-down Rangers. After this outing, the 35-year-old ranks fifth in MLB with a 1.60 ERA and first with a 0.79 WHIP, among qualified starters.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Blanks 'Stros in no-decision

Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros, allowing two hits and three walks over 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out five. The veteran righty left the mound after 93 pitches (56 strikes), including 32 called or swinging strikes, just short of his sixth straight quality start, and Eovaldi then saw his fifth win of the year slip away when the Texas bullpen melted down in the seventh inning. Eovaldi will take a 1.61 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 65:8 K:BB through 61.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the Yankees.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Dominant again in win

Eovaldi (4-2) earned the win against the Tigers on Sunday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven over seven scoreless innings. Eovaldi was spotted an early lead and cruised from there, generating 13 whiffs on 95 pitches while closing with three perfect innings. The veteran has now delivered five consecutive quality starts and has allowed three earned runs or fewer in all nine of his outings this season. He'll take a stellar 1.78 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 60:5 K:BB across 55.2 innings into a home matchup with the Astros next weekend.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Continues dominant run

Eovaldi (3-2) allowed a run on five hits and a walk over six innings Tuesday, striking out seven and earning a win over Boston. Eovaldi worked through five shutout frames before the Red Sox finally broke through with a run in the sixth inning. He tossed 65 of 90 pitches for strikes and generated a season-high 18 whiffs. Eovaldi has produced four straight quality starts and has six total in eight outings, resulting in a dominant 2.03 ERA over 48.2 innings. He's also punched out at least seven batters in four consecutive outings and now owns a ridiculous 53:4 K:BB. Eovaldi will look to continue his hot streak in his next appearance, which is lined up to be in Detroit this weekend.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Splendid again in no-decision

Eovaldi pitched six innings against the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out eight batters in a no-decision. Eovaldi racked up an impressive 16 swinging strikes and allowed just one extra-base hit, but he got little support from Texas' offense. Nonetheless, this was another standout performance by the right-hander -- he's now picked up a quality start in five of his seven outings so far this season, including in each of his past three appearances. Eovaldi ranks 10th among qualified MLB starters with a 2.11 ERA on the campaign and leads the league with a 0.77 WHIP while posting a sterling 46:3 K:BB over 42.2 innings. He's projected for a road tilt in Boston his next time out.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Fans seven in no-decision

Eovaldi did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven across six innings. He did not issue a walk. Eovaldi started out strongly by retiring 10 of the first 11 batters faced (including four strikeouts). He gave up three runs in the fourth frame -- two of which came on a two-run homer from Freddie Freeman -- but Eovaldi bounced back to retire the side in the fifth and sixth innings. Eovaldi has given up three earned runs or less in each of his five starts this season, and his 0.75 WHIP is second best in the majors behind Kevin Gausman (0.71). Eovaldi will look to earn his second win of the season in his next start, tentatively slated for next weekend on the road against the Giants.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Struggles in frigid conditions

Eovaldi (1-1) took the loss Monday against the Cubs after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out four. After throwing a complete-game shutout in his last time out against the Reds, Eovaldi was not nearly as sharp on a cold and windy Monday night at Wrigley Field. Miguel Amaya hit a sacrifice fly for a second-inning run, Ian Happ plated another on a fielder's choice during the third frame and Michael Busch ripped an RBI triple to bring home an inherited runner after Eovaldi was lifted in the fifth. The veteran right-hander still sports a 2.29 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 21:2 K:BB ahead of his next scheduled start, which lines up to come against the Mariners at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park this weekend.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Dominates with shutout

Eovaldi (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out eight in a complete game shutout win over the Reds on Tuesday. Eovaldi was remarkably efficient Tuesday, firing 70 of 99 pitches for strikes en route to the first Maddux of the 2025 MLB season. He retired the first 12 batters he faced and did not allow an extra-base hit. Eovaldi generated 18 whiffs, including 10 against his splitter. The veteran righty has been terrific so far, posting a 17:0 K:BB with a 1.20 ERA across 15 frames. Eovaldi will look to keep the momentum going in his next start, which is lined up to be next week against the Cubs in Chicago.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Fans nine in six strong innings

Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision after giving up two runs on three hits in six innings Thursday against Boston. He struck out nine. It was a strong performance by Eovaldi, who bounced back following a shaky spring training that saw him yield eight runs in 13 Cactus League innings. The veteran right-hander mostly kept the Red Sox bats quiet, but he did allow a Connor Wong single to drive in a run in the third inning and a Wilyer Abreu home run to plate another in the fifth frame. Eovaldi projects to make his next start on the road next week against the Reds, though he may carry more fantasy risk than usual at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Wraps up spring on high note

Eovaldi allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one over four innings in Friday's spring start against the Angels. Eovaldi retired the first seven batters he faced and nine of the first 10 over three scoreless innings before getting nicked for a run in his final frame. This was his final Cactus League tune-up and the best of his four spring outings. He finishes the spring with a 5.54 ERA, nine strikeouts and four walks over 13 innings. The right-hander next takes the ball Opening Day against the Red Sox.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Receiving Opening Day nod

The Rangers named Eovaldi as their starter against the Red Sox for Opening Day on March 27. It'll be the fifth Opening Day start of Eovaldi's career and his second straight for Texas. The veteran right-hander is still getting on track in spring training with seven runs allowed over nine frames, but he's coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him finish with a 3.80 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 166:42 K:BB across 170.2 innings.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Command issues Sunday

Eovaldi allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in Sunday's spring start against the Diamondbacks. Eovaldi threw a spring-high 75 pitches in his third Cactus League outing. He told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News he was off mechanically and struggled to locate his fastball. Beyond that, the right-hander said he felt fine and was pleased with his curveball, which elicited seven swing-and-misses (14 thrown) and none were hit into play. Eovaldi believes he knows what went wrong for him Sunday and how to correct it. Nothing has been decreed yet, but Eovaldi is a good bet to start Opening Day.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Up to three innings

Eovaldi allowed one run on three hits while striking out three over three innings in Wednesday's spring start against the Guardians. Eovaldi threw an efficient 31 pitches and came away pleased with the effort after an uneven first Cactus League start. "I felt much better this time around than the last outing," Eovaldi told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. "I felt like my command was a lot better and I liked the shapes of my pitches." Eovaldi felt like he rushed pitches during his first outing.
