  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito (2-1) got the win Tuesday over the Rays, allowing one run (zero earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings. Giolito bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best. He finished with a season-high 13 whiffs, and his velocity was up a couple of ticks. It's been quite the up-and-down campaign for Giolito, as he's had three starts allowing six runs or more while also posting four outings allowing one run or zero. He's lined up to take the mound again next week against Seattle.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Chased early in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 11-9 win over the Angels, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out one. Six of the eight hits off Giolito went for extra bases, as the Halos put plenty of balls off -- or in Taylor Ward's case, over -- the Green Monster. It was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander, with the seven runs allowed being a season high, and Giolito saw his ERA balloon from 4.78 to 6.42 as a result. He'll try to shake it off ahead of his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Decent results in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after allowing one run on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out three. It was a respectable performance from Giolito, who kept the ball in the yard and didn't surrender any extra-base hits. The veteran right-hander has given up six runs on a pair of occasions this season, which has considerably damaged his ratios, and he's reached the fifth inning in just three of his first six appearances while posting quality starts in the other three. Giolito has a 4.78 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB over 32 innings, and he shapes up as a volatile fantasy option versus the Angels in his next scheduled outing.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito finished with a no-decision in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings. All six of the hits Giolito served up were singles, and the right-hander didn't let any runner reach third base. The veteran hurler completed seven frames for the first time this season and picked up his third quality start through five appearances. Giolito has alternated good and bad outings so far -- the quality starts have come in his first, third, and fifth appearances while he allowed a combined 12 runs over 7.2 frames in his second and fourth starts. He'll look to snap that trend the next time he takes the mound, which is lined up to be a road matchup in Atlanta.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Start postponed again

Giolito won't pitch Friday, as the second game of Boston's doubleheader against the Orioles has been postponed due to rain. Originally scheduled to pitch Thursday, Giolito will now presumably look to take the mound during Saturday's doubleheader after having his start rained out on back-to-back days. The 30-year-old righty will be looking to get back on track after posting a 7.08 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 20.1 innings across his first four starts.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Orioles-Red Sox game rained out

Giolito will not pitch Thursday after Boston's game against Baltimore was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Friday. Giolito will start the second of those games, while Brayan Bello will take the ball in the afternoon contest.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Earns first win

Giolito (1-1) earned the win against the Royals on Sunday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Giolito threw 59 of 88 pitches for strikes and yielded just one unearned run, which came on his own throwing error in the third inning. The 30-year-old has now delivered two quality starts in three outings and rebounded nicely from Tuesday's six-run loss. He'll carry a 4.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 16.1 innings into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Roughed up by Rangers

Giolito (0-1) yielded six runs on 10 hits and a walk over 3.2 innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against Texas. Giolito gave up just one run through three innings before the Rangers piled on five runs in the fourth. It was a big step back after producing a quality start with seven strikeouts in his season debut. Giolito threw 49 of 74 pitches for strikes and forced only six whiffs. He'll carry an 8.38 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to be in Kansas City this weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: All set for Red Sox debut

The Red Sox activated Giolito (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Giolito is set to make his Red Sox debut Wednesday in Toronto after missing last season following an internal brace procedure on his right elbow and getting a late start to the 2025 campaign because of a left hamstring strain. The right-hander held a 5.19 ERA and 17:13 K:BB over 17.1 innings across five rehab starts. Giolito threw 85 pitches during his final rehab outing, so he should be able to handle a relatively normal workload versus the Blue Jays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Makes final rehab start

Giolito (hamstring) allowed three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings for Triple-A Worcester on Friday. The six walks may jump out, but manager Alex Cora confirmed prior to the start that this would end the right-hander's time in the minors, per Henry Palattella and Brian Murphy of MLB.com. The more important number is Giolito's pitch count, which reached 85 in his fifth and final rehab outing. "He's pitching [Friday], and he should be with us in Toronto [next week]," Cora said Friday. Giolito is expected to make his season and Boston debuts Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Scheduled for season debut May 1

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Giolito (hamstring) is tentatively scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut May 1 in Toronto, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Giolito will be making his Red Sox debut as well, after he signed with the team in December 2023 but missed the entire 2024 season following internal brace surgery on his right elbow. A left hamstring strain is what currently has Giolito on the IL, and he will have to come out of his fifth rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Friday with no issues before officially being cleared to join Boston's rotation next week.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Covers five innings in rehab start

Giolito (hamstring) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on six hits and no walks over five innings in his rehab start Sunday with Double-A Portland. Giolito has made four rehab starts between stops with Portland and Triple-A Worcester, logging a collective 4.97 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 12.2 innings. Though his results on the farm have been unremarkable, Giolito has been able to steadily increase his workload, with his five innings and 65 pitches Sunday both representing new highs. Giolito is expected to require one more tune-up outing in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list and potentially slotting into the Red Sox rotation as soon as April 30. Since signing with the Red Sox in December 2023, Giolito has yet to make his team debut after missing the entire 2024 season while recovering from an internal brace surgery on his right elbow and then tweaking his left hamstring during spring training.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Slated for additional rehab starts

Giolito (hamstring) will make his fourth minor-league rehab start Sunday with Double-A Portland and is expected to require an additional rehab start after that before being activated from the 15-day injured list, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The right-hander began his rehab stint by allowing just one run over 5.2 frames across his first two starts, but he was tagged for three runs over two innings his last time out Tuesday. He's struggled with his control so far, logging a 9:7 K:BB across his 7.2 frames. Boston is expected to get Brayan Bello (shoulder) back from the IL on Tuesday, making Giolito's return slightly less urgent, though Kutter Crawford (knee) and Richard Fitts (pectoral) also remain on the shelf and with unclear timelines to return.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Lit up in third rehab start

Giolito (hamstring) struck out four and gave up three earned runs on five hits and three walks over two innings during his rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Portland. Due to poor weather being in the forecast at Triple-A Worcester, Giolito moved down a level for his third rehab start after making his previous two appearances with Boston's top affiliate. The drop in competition didn't make things any easier for Giolito, who struggled to command his arsenal and spotted just 34 of his 60 pitches for strikes. The right-hander has hovered between 51 and 64 pitches in each of his three rehab starts and has yet to pitch on less than five days' rest, so he could stay in the minors for another outing or two to push up his pitch count and shake off some more rust. Giolito was placed on the injured list after suffering a low-grade left hamstring strain in mid-March, but he also missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from an internal brace procedure on his right elbow.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Likely making two more rehab starts

Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated Monday that Giolito (hamstring) is likely to make two more rehab starts, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Giolito will make his third rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and is due for another one after that. It sets him up for his Red Sox debut as soon as April 25, although that date is not set in stone. Giolito missed the 2024 season following an internal brace surgery on his elbow and got a late start to this season because of a left hamstring strain.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Another rehab start scheduled

Giolito (hamstring) is scheduled to start Tuesday for Triple-A Worcester, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Both Giolito and Brayan Bello (shoulder) will get at least one more start for the WooSox before the team decides on the next step for each pitcher. Giolito, who threw 64 pitches over 3.1 innings in his last rehab start, believes he only needs one more before being ready to return to Boston, though he admitted that the decision is out of his control, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Two more rehab outings

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Giolito (hamstring) is "not close" to rejoining the rotation, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. Giolito threw 51 pitches over 2.1 innings Wednesday in his first rehab start with Triple-A Worcester and will need at least a couple more rehab outings as he continues to build up. The right-hander is coming back from a strained hamstring and has not made a major-league start since 2023, having missed the 2024 campaign while recovering from an internal brace procedure.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Makes scoreless rehab start

Giolito (hamstring) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over 2.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. Giolito threw mostly fastballs while adding a healthy dose of changeups and sliders during the start. The right-hander is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated off the 15-day injured list.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Rehab start set for Wednesday

Giolito (hamstring) is scheduled to make his first rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Worcester, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Giolito is one of two injured Red Sox starters heading out on a rehab assignment with Worcester this week, as Brayan Bello (shoulder) is slated to pitch Tuesday. According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, Giolito is expected to cover around three innings Wednesday, and he'll likely make two more rehab starts after that before being activated from the 15-day injured list. The right-hander looks on pace to rejoin the rotation in the second half of April.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Close to rehab assignment

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Giolito (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Friday and could begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester in the coming week, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Giolito opened the season on the 15-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain that he sustained in mid-March. He wasn't shut down from throwing, and it appears he's progressed enough in his program to be closing in on a rehab assignment. There's optimism that the 30-year-old right-hander will be able to return to the Red Sox's rotation in mid-April.
