Twins' Joey Gallo: Rehab assignment next week
Gallo (foot) will join Triple-A St. Paul next week to start a rehab assignment, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Gallo was placed on the 10-day injured list late last week with a left foot contusion. He should be healthy enough to rejoin the Twins before the end of the regular season, although it's not clear what kind of role he might have.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Lands on IL
The Twins placed Gallo on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left foot contusion, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Gallo is just 2-for-22 with a homer and two RBI since Aug. 18, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Alex Kirilloff (shoulder) was activated from the IL in a corresponding move.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Blasts 21st homer of season
Gallo came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in Monday's 20-6 win over the Guardians.
Gallo slugged one of the Twins' six home runs on the day, though his was of the cheaper variety since it came off position player David Fry, who covered the final four innings for the Guardians after the game descended into a blowout. The home run counts all the same for Gallo, who left the yard for the first time since his two-homer effort Aug. 12 in Philadelphia. In between those two games, Gallo went 1-for-25 with six walks against 16 strikeouts. Though he's started in four of the Twins' last six games, Gallo still seems to be on the outside looking in for a strong-side platoon role.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Losing playing time vs. righties
Gallo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Gallo finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in five games, with two of his absences coming against right-handed pitching and two coming versus left-handers. At this stage, the Twins have seemingly pulled the plug on Gallo as a strong-side platoon option at either first base or in left field. Aside from a four-hit, two-homer game Aug. 12 in Philadelphia, Gallo has otherwise gone 3-for-32 with 20 strikeouts and one extra-base hit on the month.

Gallo is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Pirates.
Gallo has a .212/.395/.485 slash line through 33 at-bats in August and will head to the bench Sunday for the second time in the past three games. Donovan Solano will receive another start at first base while Jordan Luplow and Matt Wallner (hand) man the corner outfield spots.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Sitting versus lefty
Gallo isn't in the Twins' lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Reaches 20 homers with massive day
Gallo went 4-for-4 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Phillies.
The veteran slugger hasn't had a multi-hit performance since late June, slashing a miserable .123/.256/.342 over his last 35 games with an incomprehensible 52.3 percent strikeout rate, but Gallo broke out in a big way Saturday. Despite that deep slump, he's still reached 20 homers this season for the fifth time in his career, but he remains on track to have a batting average below .200 for the fourth straight campaign, and his power has resulted in only 38 RBI through 93 games in 2023.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Homers Wednesday
Gallo went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss against the Tigers.
Gallo took Alex Faedo deep in the second inning, putting the Twins ahead 3-2. It was Gallo's first homer since July 17 -- he'd been struggling mightily since then, going just 3-for-335 (.086) over 18 games before Wednesday's contest. Overall, the 29-year-old Gallo is slashing .176/.297/.443 with 18 homers, 34 RBI and 33 runs scored across 286 plate appearances this season.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Sitting out Tuesday
Gallo is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Detroit.
It's no surprise Gallo is again on the bench as the Tigers start a second straight lefty, but he didn't start Sunday versus a righty, either. The 29-year-old has just a .543 OPS since the start of July.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Retreats to bench versus lefty
Gallo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
With southpaw Joey Wentz on the bump for Detroit, the Twins will counter with a right-handed-heavy lineup that leaves no room for Gallo. Donovan Solano will pick up the start at first base, where Gallo has been seeing most of his playing time of late while Alex Kirilloff (shoulder) has been on the shelf.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Sitting Sunday
Gallo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Gallo will often hit the bench against left-handed starters, but he'll take a seat Sunday against Arizona righty Zac Gallen. Donovan Solano is starting at first base while Ryan Jeffers serves as the designated hitter.

Twins' Joey Gallo: On bench against lefty
Gallo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Gallo has battled pink eye and another unrelated illness of late, but his absence from the lineup Sunday likely has more to do with the Royals bringing a southpaw (Ryan Yarbrough) to the hill. Even before he missed a few games, Gallo may have been at risk of losing out on starts in the outfield against right-handed pitching to the hot-hitting Matt Wallner, but the Twins should have room in the lineup for both in the short term. With Alex Kirilloff (shoulder) moving to the 10-day injured list Sunday, Gallo could end up seeing most of his starts versus righties at first base over the next handful of games.

Gallo (illness) is starting in left field and batting ninth Friday versus the Royals.
Gallo made an early exit from Wednesday's series finale against the Mariners because of an illness, but he's good to go following Thursday's team off day. The 29-year-old slugger has registered a .744 OPS with 17 homers and 32 RBI through 80 games this season.

Twins' Joey Gallo: Leaves with apparent injury
Gallo was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mariners with an apparent injury, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Gallo looked like he might have tweaked something while scoring from second base on a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. He initially remained in for defense in the seventh but was replaced prior to the eighth inning. Gallo went 1-for-3 with an RBI double before being lifted.
