  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Short outing Saturday

Rodriguez allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday. Rodriguez failed to complete five innings for the fourth time over six starts in September. He was pulled at 62 pitches (41 strikes) Saturday, and it was likely due to him pitching into a jam that Kevin Ginkel was able to escape from. Rodriguez concludes the regular season with a 5.04 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB over 50 innings across 10 starts. It's unclear whether Rodriguez would work as a starter or a reliever if the Diamondbacks are able to make the playoffs.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Handed fourth loss

Rodriguez (3-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Monday. Rodriguez gave up three long balls, including an inside-the-park homer by Matt Chapman in the third inning that put the Giants ahead. The five runs allowed matched a season high for Rodriguez, and this was the third time he failed to complete five innings. He's now at a 5.56 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB through 45.1 innings over nine starts. The southpaw is tentatively projected for one more start in the regular season, which would be at home versus the Padres.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Fans 11 in Wednesday's win

Rodriguez (3-3) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over 6.1 innings in a 9-4 victory over the Rockies. He struck out 11. The veteran southpaw navigated Coors Field to set a new season high in strikeouts, and the strikeout total was his best in that category since he fanned a dozen Phillies almost exactly five years ago, on Sept. 14, 2019. Rodriguez picked up his first win since Aug. 20 along with his first quality start of the year, and the 6.1 innings also represented his longest outing of the season. He didn't make his 2024 debut until Aug. 7 due to shoulder issues that cropped up in spring training, and while his 5.09 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB through 40.2 innings aren't particularly impressive, he could be rounding into form just in time to help Arizona lock up a playoff spot. Rodriguez lines up to make his next start at home early next week against the Giants.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Takes tough loss

Rodriguez (2-3) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings to take the loss versus the Brewers on Friday. Rodriguez has walked multiple batters in three straight starts, though he was able to get back to the five-inning mark after falling short in his previous two outings. The veteran southpaw's only real mistake Friday resulted in a two-run home run by Rhys Hoskins in the fourth inning, but that was all Milwaukee needed in a 2-1 win. Rodriguez is now at a 5.50 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB through 34.1 innings over seven starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at Colorado.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Shaky command in Saturday's loss

Rodriguez (2-2) took the loss Saturday as the Diamondbacks were downed 11-5 by the Astros, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out one. The southpaw threw just 49 of his 88 pitches for strikes, and Houston batters got plenty of wood on the ones Rodriguez did get over the plate. The 31-year-old hasn't provided the boost to the Arizona rotation that the team was hoping for since he came off the IL in early August -- over six starts and 29.1 innings this season, he's stumbled to a 5.83 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB. Rodriguez will look to turn things around in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Brewers.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Goes four innings in loss

Rodriguez (2-1) took the loss Monday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks across four innings. He struck out one. Monday's outing was Rodriguez's fifth of the season and marked his first time failing to complete five innings. The left-hander suffered his first loss of the year and yielded a two-run home run to Freddie Freeman in the third inning. Rodriguez has been serviceable since coming off the IL in early August with three runs or fewer given up in four of his five starts, though his 5.33 ERA and 6.0 K/9 are underwhelming.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Allows season-high five runs

Rodriguez did not factor into the decision in a win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out five. Rodriguez was cruising early, producing four consecutive 1-2-3 innings to open the contest before issuing a walk to Brandon Nimmo to open the fifth. The lefty would go on to surrender hits to three of the next five batters, including a two-run homer from Harrison Bader as the Mets tied the game at 4-4. Rodriguez gave up a season-high five runs on the night while striking out five and walking one for the third-consecutive outing. He's now allowed at least three runs in three of his four starts since making his season debut in early August, though he's also managed to go at least five innings in every outing thus far.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Strikes out five in win

Rodriguez (2-0) earned the win against the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts across 5.1 innings. While he generated an unimpressive nine swinging strikes, Rodriguez tallied a season-high 100 pitches before being pulled with two men on in the sixth inning. The southpaw has completed at least five frames in each of his three outings this season and owns a 3.94 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB in that span. He appears to be fully stretched out despite skipping a rehab assignment and lines up to face the Mets at home next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Five strikeouts Tuesday

Rodriguez did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Rockies, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings. Rodriguez got through the first inning on just seven pitches but couldn't replicate the same success in the next two frames. The Rockies would string together all six of their hits against Rodriguez in the second and third, leading to three runs. The left-hander was able to settle back in and retire the last seven batters he faced before his day was done after throwing 83 pitches. He's now given up three runs in both starts since returning from a long-term absence due to a shoulder injury, though Tuesday he was able to keep the ball in the park and upped his strikeouts numbers while generating 11 whiffs. He's at a 5.06 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB in 10.2 innings and lines up to face the Marlins in a start next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Earns win in D-Backs debut

Rodriguez (1-0) earned the win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Guardians, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out one. While he didn't have the strikeout pitch working Wednesday, Rodriguez was ultimately effective against a strong Cleveland lineup, making it through 5.2 innings on just 65 pitches. Rodriguez, who had been sidelined with a shoulder injury since spring training, joined the Diamondbacks after pitching to a 3.30 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP and 143 strikeouts in 26 starts with Detroit last season. The left-hander is tentatively lined up to face the Rockies at home early next week in his second outing.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Arizona-Cleveland postponed Tuesday

Rodriguez (shoulder) and the Diamondbacks won't face the Guardians on Tuesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland. Tuesday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, and Rodriguez will get the starting nod in the nightcap, per Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com. The 31-year-old was activated from the 60-day injured list prior to Tuesday's postponement and will be making his 2024 and Diamondbacks debuts Wednesday now that he's made a full recovery from a left shoulder strain. He'll likely be working under some sort of workload restriction Wednesday after building up to four innings and around 65 pitches in simulated games prior to being activated.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Cleared for season debut Tuesday

Rodriguez (shoulder) is expected to make his season and Diamondbacks debut Tuesday in Cleveland, John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Phoenix reports. Things were pointing to Rodriguez getting a start against the Guardians and now we have an exact date for the left-hander's first major-league start of the season. He's been out all year with shoulder issues but is now ready to go following a four-inning simulated game Wednesday. Rodriguez did not make any rehab starts and he had been slated to throw 65 pitches in the sim game, so he will be limited from a pitch count perspective and might also be rusty in Cleveland.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Season debut next week likely

Rodriguez (shoulder) has joined the Diamondbacks in Pittsburgh and appears on track to make his season debut next week in Cleveland, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Rodriguez had been slated to throw a four-inning, 65-pitch simulated game Wednesday and it appears he came out of that with no concerns. The left-hander could make his season and Diamondbacks debut as soon as Monday, although the club might choose to keep Zac Gallen on turn that day and give Rodriguez the ball Tuesday. If Rodriguez starts either of those days, he would be in line for a two-start week.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Might make season debut next week

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Rodriguez (shoulder) could make his season debut next week in Cleveland, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Rodriguez is slated to throw a four-inning simulated game Wednesday, and it sounds like that could be his final test before joining Arizona's rotation. The left-hander has been out all season with a left shoulder injury and has not made any rehab starts, so his workload and sharpness next week would be a bit of a mystery.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Throws bullpen Sunday

Rodriguez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports. Rodriguez followed up a two-inning simulated game Friday with Sunday's bullpen. The Diamondbacks will evaluate the left-hander Monday to determine what the next step is for him. • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Nearing live BP

Rodriguez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo indicated the left-hander is likely to throw an additional bullpen session after that before progressing to live batting practice. Signed as a free agent in December, Rodriguez has been on the shelf all season due to a strained shoulder, and he'll likely require a multi-start rehab assignment before being cleared for his Arizona debut.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: More mound work

Rodriguez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Rodriguez threw off a mound for the first time this season Tuesday and recovered well. He could be cleared to face live hitters after another couple bullpen sessions, which could be the final hurdle before beginning a rehab assignment. Rodriguez has been on the shelf all season due to the shoulder strain and will likely require multiple starts in the minors before being cleared to make his debut for the Diamondbacks.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Completes bullpen session

Rodriguez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Rodriguez has been slowly working his way back from a left shoulder strain that he suffered in March, but Tuesday's session is a step in the right direction. The southpaw is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list July 26, and he'll look to advance more in his recovery in the coming weeks to attempt to meet that timeline.
