Yankees' Luke Weaver: Takes loss in another rough outing
Weaver (1-3) took the loss and was charged with a blown save Friday against the Mets. He allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in one-third of an inning.
Weaver entered in the seventh inning with the Yankees clinging to a one-run lead. Tim Hill had retired the first two batters in the frame without incident before manager Aaron Boone went to Weaver to face Pete Alonso. The righty reliever walked Alonso, then served up a Jeff McNeil two-run shot that gave the Mets the lead. It was another in a series of poor outings by Weaver, who has given up a long ball in each of his three appearances so far in July and has yielded seven runs (six earned) across just 1.2 frames during that span. His struggles have essentially cemented Devin Williams as New York's primary closer.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Tagged with loss in return
Weaver (1-2) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one batter in two-thirds of an inning.
Weaver was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Friday's game. He was brought in for the eighth inning with the game tied at 3-3, but things quickly got out of hand as he gave up a solo home run to Ramon Urias before being tagged for another run later in the frame. It was a less-than-ideal return for Weaver, given that he was deployed in a high-leverage situation and is expected to split closing duties with Devin Williams.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Set to split closing duties
Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Weaver (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list earlier in the day, and Devin Williams will both see save chances, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.
Weaver was serving as the Yankees' closer when he landed on the injured list in early June, but Williams is in strong form with a 1.72 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 23:2 K:BB across his past 15.2 innings. Weaver has been consistently dominant this year with just three earned runs allowed in 24 appearances, and he still has a fair amount of fantasy value while splitting save chances for the Yankees, though it remains unclear exactly how even the split will be.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Moved off IL
The Yankees reinstated Weaver (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Weaver officially beats his initial 4-to-6 week timeline for return by over a week, returning to the active roster just 17 days after being placed on the IL for a strained hamstring. The 31-year-old had served as New York's primary closer before sustaining the injury, but Devin Williams has gone 4-for-4 on save chances while Weaver's been idle, leaving some room for competition. It's worth noting Weaver has been the more reliable option throughout the campaign, boasting a 1.05 ERA compared to Williams' 5.27 ERA.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Could return from IL on Friday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Weaver (hamstring) could be activated from the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's game versus the Orioles, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Weaver bounced back well from a live batting practice session Tuesday and appears in line to return to action this weekend after missing less than three weeks with a strained left hamstring. The right-hander was originally projected to miss 4-to-6 weeks due to the injury, so he's seemingly recovered more quickly than anticipated. Weaver had been serving as the Yankees' closer when he got hurt, but he could return in a setup role with Devin Williams pitching well of late in the ninth inning.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Might be activated soon
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated Tuesday that Weaver (hamstring) could skip a rehab assignment and rejoin the active roster later this week, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Weaver faced hitters Tuesday in a live batting practice session for the first time since straining his left hamstring, with Boone describing the session as "excellent." As long as Weaver recovers well, it sounds like he could be activated from the 15-day injured list later this week. It would be a rapid recovery, as he is just over two weeks into a projected 4-to-6 week timetable. Weaver was serving as the Yankees' closer when he went on the IL, but it's not clear whether he will get that job back upon his return or pitch in a setup role in front of Devin Williams, who boasts a 1.84 ERA and 20:2 K:BB over his last 14.2 innings.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Completes live batting practice
Weaver (hamstring) threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
It's the first time Weaver has faced hitters since he landed on the 15-day injured list two weeks ago. The Yankees offered a 4-to-6 week timetable for Weaver when the IL move was made, but the reliever noted Tuesday that he hasn't felt anything in the hamstring since a day or two after he was hurt, so perhaps he can beat that timeline. The ultimate decision will be the club's.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Completes bullpen session
Weaver (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and said afterward that he felt "great," Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
The right-hander received a platelet-rich-plasma injection for the hamstring strain shortly after landing on the injured list June 3, and Wednesday marked the second bullpen session of his rehab program. Weaver was given an initial recovery timeline of 4-to-6 weeks, and a return at the start of that window seems plausible given his current trajectory.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Gets PRP injection
Weaver received a PRP injection in his left hamstring and has resumed a throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Weaver was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday and was given a 4-to-6 week return timeline. However, he's already back to throwing and received a PRP injection, which is encouraging for his recovery.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: IL move made official
The Yankees placed Weaver on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain.
Weaver suffered the injury while warming up during Sunday's game against the Dodgers and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks. Devin Williams will slide back into the closer role for the Yankees while Weaver is shelved.

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Expected to land on injured list
Weaver (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list and could miss the next 4-to-6 weeks, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Weaver tweaked his hamstring while warming up in the bullpen Sunday's win over the Dodgers, and the injury appears to be more significant than initially thought after the Yankees received his MRI results. The team plans to disclose an official timetable for the closer's return Tuesday, per Passan. Weaver's absence will presumably pave the way for Devin Williams to take back full-time closing duties for the Yankees. Williams picked up his last save May 27 against the Angels, despite surrendering two runs on three hits.
