  • Nick Pivetta: Rejects qualifying offer

Pivetta rejected the Red Sox' one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Pivetta being extended the qualifying offer was met with some initial surprise, but it quickly became clear that he was going to have a strong free-agent market and that's evident now that he's turning down a sizable one-year deal. The right-hander has never posted an ERA below 4.00 in his career, but Pivetta boasts a 30 percent strikeout rate and 7.3 percent walk rate over the last two seasons and is still relatively young, as he will turn 32 in February. If Pivetta signs elsewhere, the Red Sox will receive a draft pick.

  • Nick Pivetta: Gets qualifying offer from Boston

The Red Sox offered Pivetta a $21.05 million qualifying offer Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Pivetta spent some time on the 15-day IL early in the 2024 regular season due to a right elbow flexor strain. He was able to return in early May, and across 27 regular-season outings (26 starts), he went 6-12 with a 4.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 172:36 K:BB across 145.2 innings. Pivetta will have until Nov. 19 to accept the offer or enter the open market as a free agent.

He delivered three quality starts in five outings this month, posting a strong 2.54 ERA during that span. Pivetta forced 15 swinging strikes Friday, the most he's recorded since July 10. • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Fans four in victory

Pivetta (6-11) picked up the win against the Twins in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, allowing one run (zero earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four in five innings.

Outside of a third-inning error that allowed one run to cross, Pivetta shut down the Twins to pick up his first win since July 29. Pivetta allowed at least one baserunner in all five innings he pitched, but he was able to minimize the damage despite a subpar 4:3 K:BB. The 31-year-old Pivetta has posted a respectable 4.21 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 166:35 K:BB in 139 innings this season. He is scheduled to wrap up his 2024 campaign next weekend against Tampa Bay.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Concedes three homers in loss

Pivetta (5-11) took the loss Tuesday against the Rays, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

After posting three consecutive quality starts, the 31-year-old allowed three home runs in an outing for the first time since May 8 at Atlanta. Thankfully, Pivetta limited the damage by firing his first walk-free start since July 24 and giving up all solo shots. After pitching to a 3.81 ERA across 87.1 innings before the All-Star break, the Boston right-hander has faded a bit in the second half, going 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64:12 K:BB across 52.2 innings. He lines up to make his next start against the Twins at home this weekend.

Pivetta allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday.

Pivetta has been on a nice roll of late, notching three straight quality starts during which he's allowed just four runs while posting a 21:5 K:BB over 18 frames.
