The Twins released Floro on Sept. 29. Floro was able to get a head start on his offseason after he went unclaimed off waivers when the Twins designated him for assignment Sept. 26. Between stops with Miami and Minnesota in 2023, Floro notched seven saves, nine holds and five wins and struck out more than a batter per inning, but he also accrued an underwhelming 4.76 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 62 appearances.... Twins' Dylan Floro: DFA'd by Minnesota
Floro was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The right-hander was acquired from the Marlins for Jorge Lopez in late July but had a 5.29 ERA over 17 innings for the Twins. Floro will be a free agent this winter and wasn't likely to be included on Minnesota's playoff roster, so the organization opted to cut its losses late in the regular season.... See More ... Twins' Dylan Floro: Earns win in relief
Floro (4-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Tigers. He allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless sixth inning. Floro was the beneficiary of Minnesota's five-run, sixth-inning outburst, earning the win after tossing a scoreless frame. The 32-year-old reliever tallied seven saves and nine holds for Miami, but he has served in a less prominent bullpen role since being traded to the Twins on July 26. Floro sports a 4.40 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 45:12 K:BB across 45 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dylan Floro: Traded to Minnesota
The Marlins traded Floro to the Twins on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Jorge Lopez, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. It's a swap of struggling relievers, though Floro has displayed far better command than Lopez this year and had tallied seven saves in nine opportunities for Miami. Floro, 32, was an effective high-leverage option between 2020 and 2022 and will look to return to form while likely working somewhere between middle-relief and setup duty in Minnesota. He is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Hit with loss Monday
Floro (3-5) took the loss against the Cardinals on Monday, coughing up three runs on four hits in an inning of relief. He struck out one. Taking over in the sixth inning with the score tied 3-3, Floro retired the first two batters he faced before giving up four straight hits, including a two-run double from Nolan Arenado that capped the St. Louis rally. It's the right-hander's first loss since June 9 but he's been struggling over the last few weeks, getting scored upon in five of his last eight appearances. The slump has inflated Floro's ratios on the season to a 4.86 ERA and 1.51 WHIP, and he could be slipping out of a high-leverage role in the Miami bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Grabs seventh save
Floro picked up the save Monday against Kansas City, recording the final two outs in a 9-6 victory. Floro needed just two pitches to pick up the save after relieving Steven Okert, getting Bobby Witt to ground into a double play. Floro has closed out back-to-back games, improving to 7-for-9 in save opportunities this season. Floro lowered his ERA to 4.21 with a 1.25 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB through 25.2 innings this season. He'll likely return to a setup role soon, with A.J. Puk (elbow) nearing a return.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Nails down sixth save
Floro struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Sunday to record his sixth save of the season in a win over the A's. While the right-hander remains prone to implosions -- he's given up three or more runs in four of his 26 appearances this season, leading to a 4.32 ERA -- Floro is a perfect 5-for-5 in converting save chances since A.J. Puk (elbow) hit the IL. Puk was able to pitch on back-to-back days Friday and Saturday on his rehab assignment, however, which the organization viewed as the final hurdle before his activation, so Floro could be returning to a setup role very shortly.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Struggles in third loss
Floro (3-3) took the loss in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to San Diego. He allowed five runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks without recording an out. It was a nightmarish outing for Floro, who was called upon to keep the game tied 4-4 in the ninth. The veteran right-hander faced five batters, allowing all to reach safely, eventually departing with an 8-4 deficit. Floro has served as Miami's primary closer with A.J. Puk sidelined, going 4-for-5 in save chances with Puk on the shelf. However, Floro has struggled to a 23.14 ERA over his last four outings. With Puk beginning a rehab assignment, Floro's fantasy value appears to be waning. His ERA is up to 4.50 with a 1.33 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 24 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Collects fifth save
Floro struck out two in 1.1 perfect innings Saturday to record his fifth save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Giants. The right-hander completed the combined shutout after Braxton Garrett, JT Chargois and Tanner Scott held San Francisco in check for 7.2 innings. Floro is a perfect 4-for-4 in converting save chances since A.J. Puk (elbow) landed on the injured list, and on the season the Marlins' fill-in closer has a 2.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 21.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Notches third save
Floro gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his third save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Nationals. The right-hander is now 2-for-2 in converting save chances since A.J. Puk (elbow) landed on the IL. Floro is having a typically solid season, posting a 2.79 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings, and while he's not a dominant late-inning arm, he should fill the closer role for the Marlins adequately until Puk is ready to return.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Picks up second save
Floro picked up the save in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Reds, tossing a scoreless ninth in which he allowed one walk while striking out one. Floro got the first save opportunity for the Marlins with A.J. Puk (elbow) on the 15-day injured list. The right-hander issued a two-out walk to Kevin Newman but struck out Luke Maile to end the game. Floro is now 2-for-4 in save chances this season, and he figures to get a few more over the next couple of weeks with Puk unavailable.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Earns first save
Floro picked up the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over Atlanta, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. A.J. Puk, the Marlins' regular closer, pitched the eighth inning Wednesday, giving Floro the opportunity in the ninth. He responded by setting down Atlanta in order, sealing Miami's comeback victory. It was a strong bounce-back outing for Floro after he allowed four runs (three earned) in one-third of an inning Wednesday. He's now 1-for-2 in save opportunities this season with a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB. Puk seems to have a fairly firm grasp on the closing job, though Floro appears to be the next man up.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Nabs win Wednesday
Floro (1-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's victory over the Twins, striking out one in a perfect eighth inning. The score was tied 1-1 when Floro entered the game, but the Marlins piled on four runs in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander has a win and a hold in his first two appearances this season, and while he's a key part of the team's high-leverage mix, A.J. Puk appears to be the favorite for saves for now.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Used as setup man Friday
Floro gave up a hit in a scoreless eighth inning Friday to record his first hold of the season in a win over the Mets. The Mets had their 8-9-1 hitters due up in the eighth, so it's noteworthy that new Marlins manager Skip Schumaker elected to use Floro in that spot and save A.J. Puk for the heart of the New York order in the ninth. Schumaker has said he intends to use a closer committee and play matchups in high-leverage spots this season. If Puk is viewed as the top arm in the Miami bullpen -- he got the save Friday, although he served up a solo shot to Pete Alonso while doing it -- it could mean Floro winds up getting more work in the seventh and eighth innings, and collecting more holds than saves.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Solid spring continues
Floro gave up two hits and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. The 32-year-old had a couple shaky outings early in March but has settled down nicely since, and Floro now sports an 8:2 K:BB through 8.1 spring frames. The Marlins will deploy a closer committee to begin the season with four high-leverage arms in the mix, but Floro still seems like the team's top option from the right side ahead of Matt Barnes.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Agrees to terms with Marlins
Floro avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the Marlins on Friday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Floro supplanted Tanner Scott as Miami's closer late last season and finished with 10 saves, seven of which came in the final month of the campaign. He could retain that role in 2023, though it's also possible that the Marlins acquire a reliever with more overpowering stuff to work the ninth inning. Despite the fact that he doesn't post big strikeout numbers, Floro has been a solid contributor since joining Miami in 2021, racking up 25 saves and 16 holds while recording a 2.91 ERA over 117.2 relief innings.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Notches 10th save
Floro earned a save against Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning. Floro entered with runners on first and third and one out in the ninth inning. He started his outing with a walk and a run-scoring single but retired the next two batters to pick up the save. The veteran right-hander took control of the closer role in September and recorded seven saves over his final 13 outings. He finished with a 3.02 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season.... See More ... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Nails down eighth save
Floro struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Mets. The right-hander did his best Edwin Diaz impression as he converted his third straight save chance and fifth in six September opportunities. Floro has a 0.82 ERA, 0.36 WHIP and 11:0 K:BB through 11 innings on the month, and while he doesn't have premium stuff, when healthy he's been the Marlins' most effective reliever over the last two years.... Marlins' Dylan Floro: Earns seventh save
Floro picked up the save in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Washington. He did not allow a baserunner while striking out one over one inning. Floro has allowed only one run in 12 innings during his last 11 appearances and has converted on four of five save opportunities in September (the most save opportunities he's received in any month during 2022). The righty has wild home/road splits with a 1.71 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 26.1 innings at home compared to a 4.91 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 22 innings away from Miami.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Dylan Floro: Notches sixth save
Floro gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Nationals. The right-hander dared a feeble Washington lineup to hit his pitches, firing nine of 10 for strikes, and only Victor Robles managed to dump a single into left field. Floro is having a strong September, posting a 1.00 ERA, 0.44 WHIP and 7:0 K:BB through nine innings while converting three of four save chances and adding a win, and barring a major offseason addition to the Miami bullpen, he'll likely head into 2023 as the favorite for the closer role....
