Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Sitting third straight
Dubon isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.
Saturday will mark the third consecutive absence from the lineup for Dubon while Brendan Rodgers starts at second base. Dubon had started three of the Astros' previous four games leading up to Rodgers' stretch of starts, and it seems the two players have fallen into a timeshare at the keystone.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Giving way to Rodgers on Wednesday
Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Brendan Rodgers will get the nod at second base Wednesday, but Dubon may have inched ahead of him on the depth chart. Dubon has started at the keystone in four of the last seven games, with Rodgers drawing two starts and Jose Altuve getting one during that stretch. Though the playing time has been tilting in his favor of late, Dubon still has some work to do before solidifying himself as an everyday player; he's slashing just .209/.261/.256 over 47 plate appearances on the season.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Splitting time at second base
Dubon went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Tigers.
Dubon began the season in a clear bench role, though his playing time has started to tick up at second base. Houston has shifted its order around in an effort to jump-start its offense, with Dubon starting four of the team's last eight games -- splitting evenly with Brendan Rodgers. The split of time hasn't been predictable by matchup, and one of Rodgers or Dubon is likely to emerge as the primary option based on performance.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Back on bench Wednesday
Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
With Brendan Rodgers (hip) making his return to the lineup Wednesday, Dubon will shift back into a utility role. Dubon had started at second base in each of the previous three games while Rodgers was out, going 3-for-8 with a double, two walks, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Short-term gain in playing time
Dubon went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases Sunday against the Angels.
Dubon started for the second time in the last three games at second base with Brendan Rodgers (hip) sidelined. Rodgers doesn't appear to be battling a serious injury, so Dubon could return to a bench role as soon as Monday against the Cardinals.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Stuck in limited role
Dubon has started only two of six games to begin the season.
Dubon was in contention to be Houston's primary second baseman with Jose Altuve shifting to left field. However, Brendan Rodgers has instead served in that role, while Dubon has started only once at the keystone and once in left field. His role could change as the season progresses, but Dubon looks to be stuck in his typical utility role for the time being.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Out of lineup again Friday
Dubon is not in the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Mets, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
All signs had pointed to Dubon opening the season as the Astros' starting second baseman, but he's now been on the bench in favor of Brendan Rodgers for each of the first two games. Dubon should still play plenty in a utility role, but it's clear that Rodgers is higher than him in the second base pecking order right now.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Projected starting second baseman
Dubon is expected to serve as the Astros' starting second baseman to begin the 2025 season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
The Astros appear serious about playing Jose Altuve in left field, leaving a void at second base. Dubon remains best positioned to take advantage of that, though he has struggled significantly in spring training by failing to pick up a hit in 12 at-bats while striking out four times. McTaggart also noted Brendan Rodgers, Luis Guillorme and Zack Short as potential depth options at second base.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Could get regular looks at 2B
Dubon is an option to start at second base if Jose Altuve plays in left field, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
The Astros have been coy about their plans for Altuve, though Rome notes that he has only observed Altuve in the outfield early in spring training. Given that, current signs point to him getting at least some time in left field during the regular season, with the goal of Yordan Alvarez being the full-time designated hitter. In turn, playing time will open at second base, with Dubon and Brendan Rodgers seemingly the top candidates to fill the spot. Dubon has served as a utility player for Houston across the last two seasons and would be a candidate to post double-digit homers and steals with more regular at-bats.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Gets $5 million from Houston
The Astros and Dubon avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
This was Dubon's third of four arbitration-eligible years. The utility player slashed .269/.296/.361 with four homers in 137 games with the Astros in 2024. He underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb in October but will be ready to roll for spring training.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Set to undergo thumb surgery
Dubon will undergo surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Rome reveals that Dubon suffered the injury back on Sept. 6 but elected to delay surgery until the offseason. The rehab is expected to take 6-to-8 weeks, so the utility player should be ready to go for the start of spring training. Dubon is slated for salary arbitration for a third year this offseason after slashing .269/.296/.361 with four home runs and three stolen bases over 137 contests.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Long starting streak ends
Dubon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Dubon will head to the bench for the first time since Sept. 10, ending a stretch of 11 consecutive starts during which he batted .316 with six RBI. Though his ability to fill in at multiple spots in the infield and outfield has allowed Dubon to gain traction in the lineup lately, he'll likely be limited to a short-side platoon role heading into the final week of the regular season.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Getting eighth straight start
Dubon will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Dubon doesn't have a clear path to a spot at any one position, but his versatility and hot bat will allow him to stick in the lineup for an eighth consecutive game. He's produced an impressive .382/.400/.412 battling line over 14 games so far in September, though Dubon hasn't supplemented it with many counting stats (zero home runs, zero steals, five RBI and four runs).
