Brewers' Thyago Vieira: Hits shelf with calf strain
The Brewers placed Vieira on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right calf strain.
The injury will spell an end to Vieira's season, though unless he's dealing with a Grade 2 or 3 strain that necessitates surgery and/or an extended recovery, the hard-throwing right-hander should be in store for a normal offseason. Vieira received a call-up from Triple-A Nashville earlier this month and saw his first MLB action since the 2019 season. In two appearances out of Milwaukee's bullpen, Vieira struck out two batters over three no-hit scoreless innings.

Brewers' Thyago Vieira: Selected from Triple-A
Vieira was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.
Vieira has spent the entire 2023 season in Nashville. In 37.2 innings, the reliever posted a 3.35 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. His last major-league appearance came in 2019 with the White Sox and after that he pitched in Japan. In a corresponding move, Clayton Andrews was optioned to Triple-A.

Brewers' Thyago Vieira: Joining minor-league camp
Vieira was assigned to minor-league camp Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Vieira agreed to a minor-league contract with Milwaukee earlier in the year and looked to have a chance to crack the Opening Day roster as part of the Brewers' bullpen. However, he got roughed up in three spring appearances, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over three innings out of the bullpen. The right-hander will serve as bullpen depth and figures to have a chance for a mid-season promotion.

Vieira signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Vieira, 29, is coming off a successful three-year stint in Japan, where he held a 2.86 ERA and 150:61 K:BB over 125.2 relief innings. He'll compete for a middle relief job in Milwaukee.

Thyago Vieira: Off to Japan
Vieira signed with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
The Brazilian has thrown 25.2 innings in the big leagues over parts of three seasons but has yet to find much success, stumbling to a 7.36 ERA. Still just 26 years old, he could theoretically improve overseas and return as a more interesting pitcher sometime in the future, but he won't be seen in the majors any time soon.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Back up with big club
The White Sox recalled Vieira from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
The reliever will rejoin the big club following a stay of just over two weeks at Charlotte, where he's compiled a 4.87 ERA and 24:12 K:BB in 20.1 innings this season. The White Sox placed Dylan Covey (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Shuttled back to minors
Vieira was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following Friday's game against the Twins, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. He allowed one run (zero earned) on a hit and two walks while striking out three over two innings.
Vieira didn't surrender an earned run in his appearance Friday evening, but the White Sox will shuttle him back to the minor leagues, likely to make room for the activation of Manny Banuelos (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Heading to minors
Vieira (1-0) was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after earning the win in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Vieira allowed only one hit and had two strikeouts over two scoreless frames, but will nonetheless make his return to Charlotte. It's officially the second time the 25-year-old was demoted Wednesday -- he was optioned earlier in the day but was allowed back to serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Up as 26th man
Vieira was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday to serve as the 26th man in the doubleheader at Baltimore.
Vieira was demoted to Triple-A earlier Wednesday but never truly left the team with the doubleheader on tap. The 25-year-old should head to Charlotte for real following the nightcap.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Recalled to Chicago
Vieira was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
Vieira was called up after both Nate Jones (elbow) and Eloy Jimenez (ankle) were placed on the injured list. He hasn't pitched particularly well at Triple-A Charlotte, posting a 5.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across nine innings this season. He'll serve as depth in the White Sox bullpen for the time being, though he doesn't figure to pitch in many high-leverage situations.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Returned to minors
Vieira was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
Vieira was unable to secure a spot in the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen thanks to a shaky spring (7.11 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 4:5 K:BB through 6.1 innings). He should find himself in the big-league bullpen at some point in 2019.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Earns spring save
Vieira mopped up Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, earning his first spring save. He struck out one in one inning.
A save in a spring training game does not mean much, but a scoreless inning from someone in the White Sox's bullpen is notable. Vieira lowered his spring ERA to 6.35, which is good relative to other returning bullpen members. There should be room for the right-hander in the team's stable of relievers.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Notches first big-league save
Vieira walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to pick up his first career save in a 2-1 win over the Rays.
White Sox manager Rick Renteria is seemingly pulling names out of a hat to determine his closer on any given night -- Vieira was making just his fourth career big-league appearance, and his numbers for Triple-A Charlotte prior to his promotion (5.05 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 50:24 K:BB in 41 innings) weren't exactly dominant. The 25-year-old does boast a big fastball, so he could get a longer look in the ninth inning while the organization evaluates the talent on hand, but Vieira's track record doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Called up from minors
Vieira was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Vieira will add a little extra depth to Chicago's bullpen after the team designated Chris Volstad for assignment in a corresponding move. Through 36 appearances with Charlotte this year, Vieira has posted a 5.05 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Look for him to be utilized in low-leverage situations.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Returned to Charlotte
Vieira was returned to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Vieira served as the White Sox's 26th man for Friday's doubleheader and did not make an appearance in either game. He has a 4.26 ERA with 43 strikeouts over 31.2 innings for Charlotte this season.

White Sox's Thyago Vieira: Will be 26th man
Vieira will be up as the 26th man for the White Sox doubleheader against Oakland on Friday, James Fegan of The Athletic Chicago reports.
If Vieira is called upon to pitch in the nightcap, it will be his first big-league appearance of the season and the second of his career. The 25-year-old is a classic relief prospect, with a big fastball and questionable command. He has a 4.40 ERA in 30.2 innings for Triple-A Charlotte this season, striking out an impressive 30 percent of batters while walking a far too high 15 percent.
