Montgomery will be the Rangers' starter for Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. After allowing just two runs over 14 innings across three appearances versus the Astros in the ALCS, Montgomery will follow Game 1 starter Nathan Eovaldi in the World Series rotation. Including the postseason, Montgomery has put up a 2.62 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 92.2 innings since being traded to the Rangers.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Named Game 5 starter
Montgomery will start Game 5 of the ALCS on Friday against Houston, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Montgomery shut down the Astros in Game 1, throwing 6.1 scoreless innings while striking out six batters and walking one en route to a victory. Aside from a shaky outing against Baltimore in the ALDS, Montgomery has been solid in the postseason with an overall 2.08 ERA through 17.1 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Fans six in win
Montgomery allowed five hits and one walk across 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the win in Sunday's 2-0 contest against the Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS. He struck out six. Montgomery faltered in his previous start against Baltimore in the ALDS, but he was able to right the ship in this one to help cover the bulk of the shutout. The southpaw faced a tense moment in the fourth inning with the bases loaded but managed to strike out Martin Maldonado to keep the Astros off the board. Sunday's win marked the second for Montgomery this October and his first playoff start with at least six strikeouts. He now has a 2.08 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 13 strikeouts across 17.1 innings this postseason.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Named Game 1 starter
Montgomery will start Sunday against the Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Montgomery began the postseason with a seven-inning shutout performance against Tampa Bay in the first game of the AL Wild Card Series, but he followed that up by allowing five runs (four earned) in four innings in Game 2 of the ALDS versus the Orioles. Despite his poor performance against Baltimore, Montgomery still holds a solid 2.55 ERA, albeit with a 1.53 WHIP, in his postseason career.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Allows five runs in no-decision
Montgomery did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 11-8 victory over the Orioles in Game 2 of the ALDS, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk across four innings. He struck out two. Montgomery was unable to replicate his success from his prior postseason start. The southpaw loaded the bases in the first inning, then allowed an RBI single to Aaron Hicks that put the Orioles on the board. He was spotted a seven-run lead by the third inning but let things get tighter again in the fifth by allowing a home run to Gunnar Henderson. Montgomery now has a 2.55 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 17.2 innings with 14 strikeouts for his career in the postseason.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Lined up for ALDS Game 2
Montgomery will start for the Rangers in Game 2 of the ALDS on Sunday at Baltimore. Andrew Heaney is on tap for Game 1, presumably in tandem with Dane Dunning, and then it'll be Montgomery in Game 2 and likely Nathan Eovaldi in Game 3. Montgomery posted a 0.67 ERA and 22:5 K:BB over his final 27 innings (four starts) in the regular season and worked seven shutout frames in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series this past Tuesday versus the Rays.... Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Fans five to earn win
Montgomery allowed six hits across seven scoreless innings to pick up the win in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over the Rays in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series. He struck out five. Coming off a season where he mustered a career-best 3.20 ERA across 188.2 innings, Montgomery carried that momentum with him into the postseason. The southpaw looked sharp in the contest, picking apart the Rays lineup to earn the first postseason win of his career. Tuesday's outing marked the fifth quality start in a row for Montgomery dating back to the regular season, and the fourth time in that sample in which he logged seven innings.... See More ... Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Named Game 1 starter
Montgomery will start for the Rangers in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Rays on Tuesday. Montgomery has been the Rangers' best starter by a large margin since the trade deadline and with Max Scherzer (shoulder) injured and Nathan Eovaldi struggling he was a shoo-in to be tapped for the Game 1 start. The left-hander will be opposed by the Rays' Tyler Glasnow.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Solid in no-decision
Montgomery allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Thursday. Montgomery's lone mistake was a solo home run to Julio Rodriguez in the fourth inning. While he had a chance at the win, the Rangers' bullpen denied Montgomery the victory when the Mariners produced a walk-off in the ninth inning. The southpaw has pitched to a 2.79 ERA over 67.2 innings with the Rangers, and he's at a 3.20 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 166:48 K:BB through 188.2 innings over 32 starts this year when accounting for his time with the Cardinals. It's safe to assume he'll be part of the Rangers' postseason rotation if they can secure a playoff spot.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Tosses seven scoreless frames
Montgomery (10-11) earned the win over Seattle on Saturday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings. Montgomery silenced Seattle's bats throughout the contest, as the Mariners didn't manage to collect multiple hits against him in any inning. The southpaw continued a dominant three-start stretch during which he has allowed just one run while posting a 17:3 K:BB over 21 frames, turning things around impressively after yielding 11 earned runs over 9.1 innings during his first two outings in September. Montgomery will likely make one more regular-season start, which tentatively lines up to take place in Seattle on Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Strikes out eight in no-decision
Montgomery didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox, striking out eight while allowing one run on five hits over seven innings. Montgomery turned in another excellent outing and has now worked seven innings apiece in his last two starts. He's allowed just one run between those outings, after surrendering 11 runs in his previous two starts. The southpaw is 9-11 on the season with a 3.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 155:44 K:BB across 30 starts (175.2 innings) between the Rangers and Cardinals. Montgomery will look to keep his hot streak rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for this weekend against Seattle.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Stumbles against Oakland
Montgomery (8-11) yielded five runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Athletics. Montgomery allowed two runs through four innings before giving up a homer in each of the next two frames. It was the first time he allowed more than one home run in a start since May 16 and his season ERA was raised to 3.62 through 161.2 innings. Over his last three starts, Montgomery has been tagged with 14 runs in just 14.2 frames. His next outing is currently lined up to come in Toronto.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Struggles against Twins
Montgomery pitched 3.2 innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks. He did not strike out any batters. Montgomery was spotted a 4-0 lead after two frames, but he couldn't take advantage. He gave up a solo home run in the third inning, then allowed six straight batters to reach base with two outs in the fourth. Five of those came around to score, and Montgomery was given the hook before finishing the frame. This was easily his worst start as a Ranger -- he had gone at least 5.1 frames in each appearance and posted a 2.13 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over four outings with Texas prior to Saturday. Montgomery will look to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively slated to take place at home against Oakland next weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Decent in no-decision
Montgomery allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Sunday. This was the first time in eight starts since the All-Star break that Montgomery has failed to complete six innings. He left Sunday's contest with one out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning, and Chris Stratton promptly gave up a grand slam to begin his relief appearance. Despite the mediocre outing, Montgomery still has a 2.30 ERA over five starts (31.1 innings) for the Rangers. Overall, he's posted a 3.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 138:40 K:BB through 152.1 innings between Texas and St. Louis this year. He's lined up for a rematch at home versus the Twins next weekend.... Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Dominant effort goes to waste
Montgomery pitched eight scoreless innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Monday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six batters. Montgomery was excellent in the outing, racking up 16 swinging strikes and holding the Diamondbacks without an extra-base hit. He got very little run support but still looked to be in line for the win upon his departure, as Texas held a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth. The Rangers' bullpen couldn't hold on, however, saddling Montgomery with a no-decision. Nonetheless, the southpaw picked up his fifth straight quality start, the last four of which have come since he joined Texas at the trade deadline. Since becoming a Ranger, Montgomery has posted a 1.73 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:3 K:BB over 26 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Dominates Halos
Montgomery (2-1) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 7-3 win over the Angels. He struck out nine. Montgomery delivered a fourth consecutive quality start Tuesday, allowing one run across six innings while tying his season high in strikeouts. The performance also snapped Montgomery's streak of four straight starts allowing a home run. In three starts since being acquired by the Rangers, Montgomery boasts a 2.50 ERA to go along with a 20:2 K:BB over 18 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to toe the rubber again during a two-game series at Arizona early next week.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Pitches well in loss
Montgomery (7-10) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out five. Montgomery did a good job of pitching his way out of jams for most of the afternoon, with the first run coming off a sacrifice fly from Jonah Bride. The lefty then allowed a leadoff homer to Zack Gelof to open the sixth but was able to get through the inning without allowing any further damage. Montgomery has now logged three consecutive quality starts, though he's just 1-2 over that stretch. He's also given up at least six hits in four of his last five outings and at least one long ball in four straight.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Collects win in Texas debut
Montgomery (7-9) picked up the win Friday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over six-plus innings in a 6-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out six. The veteran southpaw gave up single runs in the first and second innings in his debut for the Rangers, but Montgomery settled in after that and cruised to his eighth quality start in his last 10 trips to the mound. He holds a 2.51 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 54:18 K:BB through 61 innings over that stretch, and with a potent Texas offense at his back, he could be headed for double-digit wins for the first time in his career. Montgomery lines up for a very juicy matchup in his next start, which is likely to come next week in Oakland.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Debuting for new team Friday
Montgomery is slated to make his Rangers debut Friday versus the Marlins at Globe Life Field, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Texas will be breaking in its two new additions to the rotation on consecutive days, as Max Scherzer will take the hill Thursday versus the White Sox before Montgomery toes the rubber for the series opener against Miami. Montgomery had been the de facto staff ace of a poor Cardinals rotation this season, posting a 3.42 ERA and 1.25 WHIP while striking out 108 batters over 121 innings. He'll profile as more of a mid-rotation arm for Texas, but his fantasy outlook could improve following the move from St. Louis while he's supported by a stronger Rangers lineup.... See More ... Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Traded to Texas
The Cardinals agreed to trade Montgomery and Chris Stratton to the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for minor-leaguers Thomas Saggese, Tekoah Roby and John King, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The Rangers bolstered their rotation Saturday with the acquisition of Max Scherzer, and the organization is going all in with two more major additions to its pitching staff less than a day later. Montgomery has been a reliable rotation piece over the past three years with a 3.59 ERA in 83 starts, and he'll provide a significant boost to Texas' starting unit after it recently lost Nathan Eovaldi (forearm) to the injured list....
