Carter is out of the lineup for Game 6 of the ALCS against the Astros on Sunday. The rookie outfielder is 4-for-18 with a walk, two doubles and two runs through the first five games of the series, but he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Framber Valdez pitching for Houston. Robbie Grossman is instead starting in left field, while Carter is a good bet to come off the bench for Texas once Valdez exits the contest.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Evan Carter: Batting third again in Game 4
Carter will bat third again Thursday in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Astros. Carter jumped into the three-hole for Game 3 and went 1-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts as the Rangers fell 8-5. The 21-year-old left fielder has been tremendous throughout his first postseason experience, boasting a .333/.500/.667 slash line with a homer, five doubles and seven walks in 32 plate appearances.... Rangers' Evan Carter: Batting third in ALCS Game 3
Carter is starting in left field and batting third Wednesday in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Astros. Carter mostly batted ninth over the final month of the regular season, but he moved up to the No. 5 spot in the Rangers' lineup for their ALDS matchup against the Orioles and will now jump all the way to the three-hole Wednesday versus the Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier. The 21-year-old rising star boasts a .350/.536/.700 slash line through his first 28 postseason plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Might bat third in Game 3
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged Tuesday that he was considering batting Carter third Wednesday in Game 3 of the ALCS versus the Astros, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Carter had been hitting fifth for the Rangers of late before not starting Game 2 against lefty Framber Valdez (although, he did receive three plate appearances off the bench). With righty Cristian Javier starting for Houston in Game 3 and no southpaws in its bullpen, he could be elevated to the three spot. Texas has been using Robbie Grossman or Mitch Garver in the three hole, but it makes sense to move up Carter, who leads the Rangers with a 1.236 OPS through 28 plate appearances this postseason.... Rangers' Evan Carter: Absent from Game 2 lineup
Carter is not in the lineup Monday for Game 2 of the ALCS against the Astros. This is the first time the Rangers have faced a lefty starter this postseason in Framber Valdez, and it's the first time the left-handed hitting Carter has been on the bench. Switch hitter Robbie Grossman will handle left field for the Rangers, while Mitch Garver will occupy the designated hitter spot.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Could rise up lineup for ALDS
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that he's considering moving Carter up in the lineup for the ALDS against the Orioles, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The 21-year-old outfielder batted ninth in Games 1 and 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Rays and went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, three walks and a hit-by pitch, reaching base in seven of his eight plate appearances. "He handles himself so well," said Bochy. "He could go in the three-hole, or in the five-hole, or really anywhere in the lineup." As noted by Grant, the No. 3 hitters for Texas have gone a combined 18-for-116 (.155) dating back to the beginning of September.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Swipes bag in win
Carter went 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rays in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series. Carter entered the postseason carrying a .310/.408/.714 line across 42 ABs in his last 15 regular-season games, and taking the stage for the first time in his career did not phase the rookie. While he stole only a single base in that span, he does possess an elite 29.6 ft/s sprint speed, which he may utilize more in the postseason to create additional run-scoring opportunities.... Rangers' Evan Carter: Homers in win
Carter went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Angels. Carter is up to five homers since his call-up Sept. 8, and four of those long balls have come over his last seven games. He padded the Rangers' lead in the ninth inning with his blast Wednesday. The rookie outfielder has adjusted well to the majors, hitting .320 with a 1.146 OPS, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases over 61 plate appearances. Carter should be able to maintain a strong-side platoon role into the postseason if the Rangers clinch a spot.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Hits bench versus lefty
Carter isn't in the Rangers' lineup Tuesday versus the Angels. Carter has gotten his major-league career off to a fast start, slashing .326/.429/.696 with four homers and 10 RBI over his first 17 games. He'll sit down Tuesday with lefty Reid Detmers starting for Los Angeles, and Robbie Grossman will take over in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Catches breather Monday
Carter is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. Carter has homered three times over his last four games, but he will open Monday's contest on the bench, with manager Bruce Bochy opting to use the righty-swinging Robbie Grossman in left field against Angels southpaw Patrick Sandoval.... Rangers' Evan Carter: Homers in victory
Carter went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, a walk, a second run scored and a stolen base in Friday's win over Seattle. Carter went deep for the second straight game, this time drilling a three-run shot in the second inning. He's already knocked three home runs and swiped three bags through 14 career MLB games. The rookie outfielder is slashing .324/.447/.676 with six extra-base hits and a 9:13 BB:K through 47 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Possible waiver wire pickups
After losing Adolis Garcia to a season-ending knee injury Wednesday, the Rangers made the bold decision to call up 21-year-old Evan Carter. He started two of their three games over the weekend, going 1 for 5 with two walks and a stolen base. They're not the first organization to push the envelope with one of their top prospects this month, but in Carter's case, there's more reason to question if he's actually ready for this opportunity. His on-base skills are exemplary and may give the Rangers enough of a lift to justify it, but his power stroke remains a work in progress. He's still adding muscle to his frame and is too opposite field-minded to get the most out of his existing strength. Most likely, he's not going to make up for the loss of Jasson Dominguez, if that's who you're looking to replace, but in five-outfielders leagues, you could take a flier and see.... See More ... Rangers' Evan Carter: Reaches base twice in debut
Carter went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's loss to Oakland. Carter hit ninth and played right field in his MLB debut and wasted no time making an impact. He singled in his first career at-bat and swiped second base before drawing a free pass later in the contest. One of the top prospects in baseball, Carter produced an .863 OPS in the minors this season and should see regular playing time at the MLB level with Adolis Garcia (knee) out and the Rangers struggling to get consistent production from their other outfield spots.... Rangers' Evan Carter: Batting ninth in debut
Carter will start in right field and bat ninth after being called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. Carter was called up for his MLB debut Friday to replace Adolis Garcia (knee), who went on the injured list in a corresponding move. Carter played just eight games with Round Rock before receiving the call to the majors, going 12-for-34 with three RBI, eight runs scored and three stolen bases. He figures to see regular playing time while Garcia is out.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Will be promoted Friday
The Rangers will promote Carter from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. With Adolis Garcia (knee) headed for the injured list, the Rangers will call up Carter in order to make up for the loss of a key bat. Carter is slashing .290/.415/.444 with 12 homers and 65 RBI between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. He's capable of playing all three outfield positions and is likely to see a decent share of playing time between Garcia's injury and Leody Taveras' offensive struggles.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Headed to Triple-A
Carter will be promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Carter posted a .921 OPS over his last 23 games with Double-A Frisco, and that propelled him to the top level of the minor-league ranks. Carter is one of the top prospects both in the Texas system and in all of baseball, but he likely will not get the call to the big leagues until 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Activated off minor-league IL
Carter (wrist) was activated from the minor-league injured list Tuesday at Double-A Frisco, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports. Carter spent about three weeks in rest and rehab mode for a wrist injury. The young outfield prospect returns to a .276/.404/.387 batting line with four home runs and nine stolen bases through 41 games on the year at Double-A.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Begins rehab games in AZL
Carter (wrist) was cleared Friday to begin a rehab assignment with the Rangers' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Carter is on track to return to his post at Double-A Frisco later this month after being shut down June 1 to heal a wrist injury. One of the top prospects in the Rangers' system, he was slashing .276/.404/.387 with four homers and nine steals in 41 games this year at Double-A prior to the IL stint.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Moved to minor-league IL
Carter was placed on the minor-league injured list Friday due to wrist soreness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Carter had been put on the Development List earlier this month, but this wrist issue popped up before that move and the Rangers are now simply correcting his status. The 20-year-old outfield prospect is not expected to return to Double-A Frisco before June 20.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Evan Carter: Moved to Development List
Carter was placed on the Development List on June 2. The Development List is a minor-league only designation, which can be used for a variety of reasons, according to Matthew Postins of SI.com. According to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Double-A Frisco moved him to the list to get some rest while also referencing a hand injury he suffered earlier in the season. Landry also states that the organization expects Carter to return this week.... See More ... See Less
