  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday. The Diamondbacks decided to keep Tim Tawa around rather than Barrosa, who is 3-for-15 at the plate during his brief time in the majors this season. He'll play more regularly with Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Knocks in two

Barrosa started in center field and went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Mets. Barrosa took over in center field for Alek Thomas, who is typically out of the lineup against left-handers and was held out Tuesday against New York's David Peterson. The switch-hitting Barrosa doubled in the Diamondbacks' first run and then produced the team's final run on a groundout. Barrosa will start in center field against lefties and occasionally step in for Lourdes Gurriel.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Starts against lefty

Barrosa started in center field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 8-2 loss to Atlanta. Barrosa made his first start (second appearance) since being called up from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. While primary center fielder Alek Thomas has hit well to start the season, including a small-sample 3-for-9 against lefties, the Diamondbacks remain reticent to use him against southpaws. The switch-hitting Barrosa will serve as the right-handed complement in center field. He had an .857 OPS over 105 plate appearances at Reno prior to his call-up.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Summoned from minors

The Diamondbacks recalled Barrosa from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. It's the corresponding roster move for Jake McCarthy, who has been optioned to Reno. Barrosa got a cup of coffee last season with the Diamondbacks, going 3-for-17 at the plate in eight games. He will operate as a reserve outfielder in Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Barrosa has slashed .320/.433/.480 in 11 Cactus League games this spring but has also struck out 10 times in 30 plate appearances. Given Arizona's outfield depth, the 24-year-old never had much of a chance to make the Opening Day roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. The 23-year-old joined Arizona when big-league rosters expanded to 28 players Sunday, but he'll head back to Triple-A with Ketel Marte (ankle) returning from the injured list. Barrosa has a .470 OPS in eight big-league games this season and has a .269/.364/.423 slash line with six homers and 10 steals in 61 contests at Triple-A.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Swipes bag in win

Barrosa started in center field and went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Giants. Barrosa, who made his first start since being called up as part of the September roster expansion, stole his first base as a major leaguer. The 23-year-old outfielder had double-digit swipes in four consecutive minor-league seasons prior to making his MLB debut in 2024. There could be more opportunities for the switch hitter, as Arizona placed Lourdes Gurriel (calf) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, although Randal Grichuk and Pavin Smith will likely benefit the most from Gurriel's absence.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Enters for injured starter

Barrosa went 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 14-3 win over the Dodgers. Barrosa entered the game after starter Lourdes Gurriel injured his calf running out a double-play grounder. Gurriel is expected to undergo imaging as soon as possible to determine the severity of the injury, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. A tandem of the switch-hitting Barrosa and Randal Grichuk would likely take Gurriel's spot in the lineup if he misses time.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Summoned from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Barrosa from Triple-A Reno prior to Sunday's 14-3 win over the Dodgers. He came off the bench in the victory, doubling in his lone at-bat and playing three innings in left field. Barrosa is back with the big club for the second time this season following a brief stint with the Diamondbacks in April. Though he entered Sunday's game in place of an injured Lourdes Gurriel (leg), Randal Grichuk may be in line ahead of Barrosa to claim a regular spot in the outfield alongside Corbin Carroll and Jake McCarthy if Gurriel ends up missing time. The 23-year-old Barrosa is one of Arizona's better prospects, but he's unproven at the big-league level and turned in a solid but unspectacular .787 OPS in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this season prior to his promotion.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns to Triple-A club Monday

Triple-A Reno reinstated Barrosa (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Monday. The 23-year-old outfielder missed about three weeks of action during his second IL stint of the season. Barrosa previously appeared in three games for Arizona in early April, but he'll likely stick around at Reno for the foreseeable future unless the Diamondbacks outfield is hit by the injury bug.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns from Triple-A IL

Triple-A Reno reinstated Barrosa (hamstring) from the 7-day injured list Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Barrosa has been on the shelf since late April due to a right hamstring strain. He began playing rehab games in the Arizona Complex League last week, going 4-for-16 with three RBI across four games, and he's been given the green light to return to the Aces' lineup. The 23-year-old outfielder is slashing 308/.438/.462 across 48 Triple-A plate appearances and made his MLB debut earlier this season, going 2-for-10 with an RBI in three games against the Yankees in early April.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Rehabbing in Complex League

Barrosa (hamstring) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday and has gone 2-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI in his first two games with the affiliate. Barrosa was placed on Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list April 18 with a right hamstring strain, but he could be on track to rejoin Arizona's top affiliate by the end of the week if all goes well during his rehab assignment in the lower levels of the minors. The switch-hitting outfielder was slashing .308/.438/.462 with a home run and two stolen bases over 48 plate appearances with Reno prior to landing on the shelf.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: In lineup again

Barrosa started in center field and went 1-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Yankees. Barrosa received a second straight start in center field, both against lefty hurlers, which suggests the switch-hitter may platoon with lefty Jake McCarthy to cover for Alek Thomas (hamstring) while he's unavailable. After Thursday's day off, the Diamondbacks play a weekend series in Atlanta, which kicks off Friday against right-hander Spencer Strider.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Making first MLB start

Barrosa is starting in center field and batting seventh in Tuesday's game versus the Yankees, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Barrosa doubled as a pinch-hitter Monday in his first major-league game and will garner his first start Tuesday. The switch-hitting outfielder will face the Yankees' Nestor Cortes in this one and could see regular starts against lefties while Alek Thomas (hamstring) is out.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns to action at Triple-A

Barrosa (hamstring) has started in five games since being activated from Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list April 11, going 6-for-19 with a home run, a double, three walks, seven RBI and three runs. Barrosa required only a brief stint on Reno's IL to begin the season while he worked his way back from the strained right hamstring he suffered in a Feb. 26 Cactus League game. Now that he's healthy again, the 22-year-old switch-hitting outfielder appears set to fill an everyday role for the Diamondbacks' top affiliate.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Optioned to Triple-A

Barrosa (hamstring) was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday. Barrosa strained his hamstring earlier this month and will miss the first few weeks of the season, but he will reach Triple-A for the first time in his career once he's healthy. The 22-year-old outfield prospect slashed .276/.374/.438 with 12 homers and 51 RBI with Double-A Amarillo last season.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Will miss significant time

Barrosa (hamstring) will miss between four and six weeks, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Barrosa suffered a strained right hamstring while trying to track down a ball in the outfield Saturday. The 22-year-old is considered one of the organization's better defensive outfielders and has stolen double-digit bases the last three seasons.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Leaves Saturday's game

Barrosa was removed from Saturday's game due to hamstring tightness, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Barrosa started in center field against the Rockies and walked in his only at-bat before being removed in the bottom of the second inning. He reached Double-A Amarillo in 2022 and is not expected to be part of the MLB roster in 2023. Barrosa's best assets are defense and speed. He stole 26 bases (but was caught 12 times) over two minor-league stops in 2022.
