Athletics' Grant Holman: Option rescinded, placed on IL
The Athletics voided Holman's optional assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday and placed him on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Monday) with rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder.
The A's originally optioned Holman to Triple-A on Monday after he had posted a 5.09 ERA in 23 innings with the major-league club. However, the team uncovered a shoulder injury Thursday and will keep him around to rehab with the big-league squad. He'll be eligible to return from the IL beginning July 1, though he may still be sent down to the minors whenever he's fully healthy.

Athletics' Grant Holman: Sent back to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Holman to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Holman hadn't pitched since last Wednesday, when he was dinged for three runs without recording an out. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for the return of J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) from the 15-day injured list.

The right-hander will make the first start of his MLB career Tuesday as an opener. Holman has a 4.74 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB across 19 innings this season and should hand things off to the bullpen after an inning or two.

Athletics' Grant Holman: Recalled to majors
The Athletics recalled Holman from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Holman and southpaw Hogan Harris will bolster the A's bullpen after Jacob Lopez was optioned to Triple-A and Jose Leclerc (lat) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Holman hasn't yielded a run over nine innings of work in Las Vegas, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. He appeared in 18 games for the Athletics in 2024 and finished with a 4.02 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB in 15.2 innings.

Athletics' Grant Holman: Sent to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Holman to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Holman allowed two earned runs and didn't issue any walks over six innings during Cactus League play, but the fact that he had minor-league options remaining likely worked against him in his bid for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. The 24-year-old righty received his first taste of the big leagues in 2024, posting a 4.02 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB in 15.2 innings over 18 appearances for the Athletics.

Athletics' Grant Holman: Takes first loss Thursday
Holman (0-1) was charged with a blown save and took the loss to the Reds on Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and a wild pitch without retiring a batter.
After loading the bases to open the final frame and try to protect a 9-7 lead, Holman surrendered back-to-back run-scoring singles to Tyler Stephenson and TJ Friedl, the latter sealing a three-run rally for the Reds. Prior to Thursday, Holman had allowed just a single earned run across four innings over his first five big-league appearances following his Aug. 17 promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Athletics' Grant Holman: Headed to majors
The Athletics selected Holman's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.
The 24-year-old reliever has a 0.92 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and a 30:13 K:BB with four wins and three saves in 29.1 innings over 23 appearances in the Pacific Coast League. Holman, a righty, won't be unseating Mason Miller in the ninth inning, but he could soon establish himself as one of Oakland's most promising relievers.
