Kyle Farmer will man the keystone Sunday for Colorado.

  • Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Suffers hand bruise

Estrada went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-6 win over the Nationals, but he was removed from the game with a right hand contusion after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The second baseman took Michael Soroka deep in the second inning, Estrada's first homer of the season and the first of seven for the Rockies to tie a franchise record. Colorado held a 7-1 lead when he was replaced by pinch runner Orlando Arcia, and X-rays taken after the game came back negative, but the team is likely to be cautious with Estrada given that he missed the first two months of the season with a fractured right wrist.

  • Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Ready for 2025 MLB debut

The Rockies reinstated Estrada (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Friday. The veteran infielder was sidelined by a fractured wrist late in spring training, but he's ready to make his Rockies debut after going 7-for-23 with a double during a five-game rehab assignment. • Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Ready for rehab assignment

Estrada (wrist) was sent to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment. Estrada has been cleared to play in games after being sidelined all season with a fractured right wrist. The 29-year-old participated in most of spring training before sustaining the injury, but he'll still likely require a fair amount of rehab games to get his timing back at the plate before making his Rockies debut. Once activated from the 60-day injured list, Estrada is likely to become the Rockies' primary second baseman, and his hitter-friendly home venue makes him a worthy roster stash in fantasy leagues where he's available.

Estrada is scheduled to undergo another set of X-rays in about four weeks, so his absence is likely to run through mid-May, at least. In the meantime, the Rockies plan to give Kyle Farmer significant run at the keystone to begin the season. Prospect Adael Amador might also get a look if he has a quick start to the campaign at Triple-A Albuquerque.

The second baseman was hit in the head by Michael Taylor's foot while tagging him out at second base in the fourth frame. Estrada was able to finish the half-inning but was replaced by a pinch hitter in the fifth. Manager Bud Black said the incident shook Estrada up quite a bit, but his removal was precautionary, and he likely won't need to miss much time.

  • Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Nabs one-year deal with Colorado

The Rockies agreed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with Estrada on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Estrada slashed only .217/.247/.343 over 96 games for the Giants in 2024 and finished the season off the 40-man roster. However, the 28-year-old infielder hit .266/.319/.408 while averaging 14 home runs and 22 stolen bases from 2022 to 2023. He should slot in at second base for the Rockies and immediately gains some fantasy appeal playing half his games at Coors Field. The deal includes a mutual option for 2026 with a $750,000 buyout.
