  • Brewers' William Contreras: Scores four times in win

Contreras went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double and four runs scored in Wednesday's 9-5 win over Cleveland. The 27-year-old backstop entered the contest in a 1-for-16 slump but ended up serving as a table-setter out of the cleanup spot Wednesday, as Rhys Hoskins drove in five runs out of the No. 6 hole. It's the fourth four-hit performance of Contreras' career and the first time he's tallied more than two hits in a game this season. He was struggling through 11 games in May prior to Wednesday's showing, having gone 5-for-39 (.128 average) with 12 strikeouts.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Making third straight start

Contreras will start at catcher and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Rays. Though he sat out Wednesday's 9-1 loss to Houston, Contreras confirmed that he planned to continue playing through a fractured middle finger on his catching hand. The two-time All-Star caught eight innings Friday and nine more Saturday while going 1-for-7 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Even with the Brewers playing a day game Sunday, Contreras won't be deployed as a designated hitter and will remain behind the plate, a sign the coaching and training staffs are comfortable with his health.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Playing through fractured finger

Contreras is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros after X-rays on his left hand confirmed a fractured middle finger, but he plans to continue playing through the injury, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The fracture is something that Contreras has evidently dealt with for a while, which could be contributing to the disappointing .242/.358/.331 batting line he's produced so far. Though he's not in the lineup Wednesday, Contreras could be available off the bench and should be back in the lineup for this weekend's series at Tampa Bay as either a catcher or designated hitter. The Brewers plan to construct a splint that will absorb some of the impact the finger takes, which should enable him to continue catching on a regular basis. Eric Haase will step in behind the plate Wednesday while Contreras sits for the series finale.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Getting X-rays on finger

Manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Contreras has been playing through a finger injury, and it's now bothering him enough to warrant taking him in for X-rays, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports. Murphy added that Contreras' finger has begun to affect his ability to keep pitches in his glove and hang onto his bat while swinging. More information on the 27-year-old's status will be available once the results of his tests come back, but the Brewers may look to use Eric Haase behind the plate more often in the near future if Contreras' finger continues to be an issue.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Swipes bag Tuesday

Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks, a steal, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. Contreras had an RBI single in the sixth to knot the game at two apiece and extend his hit streak to eight games. He's had at least one hit in all but one game in which he's appeared since April 5. His early power numbers are down from previous seasons, but he's posted a career-high walk rate and career-low strikeout rate over the first month and he's well on pace to reach double-digit steals for the first time after swiping his fourth bag Tuesday.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Launches third homer

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. The All-Star catcher opened the game's scoring in the first inning by popping a 375-foot, two-run homer off Arizona starter Zac Gallen. After starting out slowly with a .074/.242/.074 slash line across 33 plate appearances, Contreras is currently riding a seven-game hit streak during which he's batting .370 (10-for-27) with three homers, two doubles, 10 RBI and eight runs scored.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Getting afternoon off

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Contreras will receive his first day off this season after making eight starts at catcher and one at designated hitter through Milwaukee's first nine games. Eric Haase will handle catching duties in the series finale.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Displaying Silver Slugger talents

Contreras is 11-for-29 (.379) with two home runs, seven RBI, two stolen bases and a 5:4 BB:K through 12 exhibition games. The National League's reigning Silver Slugger at catcher has posted a 1.092 OPS this spring, and the stolen bases should not come as a surprise considering he tallied nine of them over 155 regular-season appearances in 2024. Contreras will again be the primary catcher for the Brewers and will occupy a prime run-producing spot in the batting order.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Avoids arbitration with Crew

Contreras signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Brewers on Friday to avoid arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The new deal also includes a $12 million club option for 2026. Contreras set new career highs last year with 23 homers and 92 RBI while slashing .281/.365/.466 across 679 regular-season plate appearances. The two-time All-Star is expected to continue serving as Milwaukee's everyday catcher in 2025, though he may occasionally move into the DH spot to get Eric Haase some reps behind the dish.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Resting Sunday

Contreras is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Mets. Contreras will rest for the regular-season finale, as Eric Haase starts behind home plate and bats fifth. Unless he pinch hits Sunday, Contreras will end his second regular season with the Brewers having slashed .281/.365/.466 with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs (both career highs) across 679 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Back in lineup as DH

Contreras (finger/hip) is in the lineup as the designated hitter for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old is said to be dealing with lingering finger and hip issues, but he will tough it out Sunday with the help of the DH tag. Milwaukee has already secured the NL Central, so Contreras could perhaps see additional down time over the final week of the season. That said, he's been a workhorse and will likely push to play as much as the team will let him in preparation for the playoffs.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Dealing with lingering injuries

Contreras was held out of Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks due to finger and hip injuries, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Contreras' injuries appear to be minor and he wanted to play Saturday, but the Brewers will rest the 26-year-old catcher for at least one contest. He could be back as soon as Sunday for the series finale, but with the Brewers scheduled for an off day Monday, he could be held out for additional rest until the start of the upcoming road series against the Pirates on Tuesday. Since Sept. 1, Contreras has slashed .286/.397/.500 with three home runs and 12 RBI across 69 plate appearances.

Over his past 10 games, the catcher has three multi-hit efforts with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI. Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Contreras started the past eight games and will receive a day off after going 9-for-27 with two doubles, two homers, eight RBI and six runs. Eric Haase will do the catching for left-hander DL Hall in the series finale.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Homers, drives in four

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, four RBI and three total runs scored in Saturday's 15-8 win over the Diamondbacks. Contreras did a little bit of everything, including opening the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He added an RBI double in the fourth a two-run home run in the ninth to log multiple RBI for the second time over 12 games in September. The catcher is hitting .231 (9-for-39) this month, but he still has a brilliant .280/.362/.470 slash line with 22 homers, 88 RBI, 94 runs scored and six stolen bases through a career-high 144 contests this season.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Smacks 21st home run

Contreras went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. Contreras took Ty Blach deep for a two-run homer in the third inning and set a new career high for homers in a season after he hit 20 in 2022 with Atlanta. Contreras' multi-hit effort broke him out of a 0-for-19 slump over his last six games. The 26-year-old catcher has found his power stroke as of late with 10 home runs since the beginning of August, including four in his last 10 starts.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Getting Wednesday off

Contreras isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Contreras will get a day to regroup Wednesday after going 0-for-14 with four strikeouts and five walks across his last four games. While he rests, Eric Haase will catch for right-hander Colin Rea and bat ninth.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Steals home in win

Contreras went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run in Thursday's 6-0 win over the Giants. The Brewers pulled out a play straight out of little league on Thursday. With runners on first and third and two outs, Willy Adames took off from first and got caught in a rundown to allow Contreras to score from third. Contreras has now tied a career high with six steals. He remains one of the premier players at his position and carries a .285/.361/.466 slash line with 18 homers through 129 games this season.
