News of Overton's surgery was reported earlier this week, but it wasn't previously specified as Tommy John surgery. He figures to be sidelined until around midseason of next year, at least.

Reds' Connor Overton: Needs elbow surgery
Overton will undergo right elbow surgery Tuesday after encountering a recent setback, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The exact nature of the operation isn't clear, but it is expected to end his season. Overton has been sidelined since mid-April with what had been called a right elbow strain. He also missed most of last season with a back injury.

Reds' Connor Overton: Transferred to 60-day IL
Cincinnati transferred Overton (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
Overton was removed from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for several new additions to the Cincinnati bullpen. The right-hander is not expected to be ready to return from his left elbow strain until the middle of July.

Reds' Connor Overton: Out until July
Manager David Bell said Sunday that Overton (elbow) isn't expected to return from the injured list until mid-July, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The right-hander was originally expected to resume throwing a couple weeks after he landed on the shelf with a right elbow strain in mid-April, but he's now slated for a multi-month absence. Overton is working through his rehab program at the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona but isn't yet throwing off a mound.
