Yankees' Luis Gil: Begins throwing program
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Gil (lat) began a throwing program Sunday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Gil's throwing progression had been pushed back because his right lat strain wasn't fully healed yet, but he played catch Sunday and felt fine a day later Monday. It will be a slow ramp-up for the right-hander, as Gil was shut down for two months. He won't be ready to rejoin the Yankees' rotation until at least June.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Throwing progression pushed back
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the beginning of Gil's (lat) throwing progression will be pushed back about 10 days, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Gil had been scheduled to play catch Wednesday or Thursday. However, the pitcher recently underwent an MRI, and doctors would like to see more healing with Gil's right lat before they clear him to throw. While he's not a setback, per se, Gil's recovery has not moved along as far as hoped.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Will throw Wednesday or Thursday
Gil (lat) is expected to begin a throwing program Wednesday or Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
It will mark the end of a six-week shutdown period as the right-hander works his way back from a high-grade lat strain. Gil is already on the 60-day injured list and will be ramped up slowly. A timetable for his return to the Yankees' rotation likely won't become clearer until he begins mound work.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Closing in on throwing program
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Gil (lat) is scheduled to begin a throwing program within the next several days, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
After being diagnosed with a high-grade right lat strain in early March, Gil avoided surgery but received a platelet-rich plasma injection and was advised not to throw for six weeks. The right-hander seems to be responding as well as the Yankees had hoped during his prolonged shutdown, and though he's on the cusp of playing catch again, he'll be in line for a slow and deliberate ramp-up program. The Yankees have already shifted Gil to the 60-day injured list and aren't anticipating him being ready to make his season debut until at least early June.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Placed on 60-day IL
The Yankees placed Gil (lat) on the 60-day injured list Monday.
The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Ryan Yarbrough, who signed a one-year deal Monday. Gil is expected to be sidelined until at least June while he recovers from a high-grade right lat strain.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Sidelined at least three months
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he expects Gil (lat) to be sidelined for at least three months, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Gil is nursing a high-grade right lat strain, a diagnosis which was confirmed by a second MRI back in New York. The righty will be shut down for at least six weeks and will need to be built back up from scratch, so Cashman's revelation that Gil won't be an option until June, at the earliest, doesn't come as a surprise. Marcus Stroman and Will Warren are competing to fill Gil's spot in the Yankees' rotation.
