  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Idle for Game 4

Perez isn't in the lineup Thursday for Game 4 of the ALDS against Cleveland. • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Drives in runs Tuesday

Perez went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rays. Perez had the game's key hit, delivering a ground-rule double in the bottom of the fifth inning that plated both Detroit runs. The 24-year-old rookie returned from the injured list on Sept. 12 after missing about a month due to an oblique strain, and he's seemingly settled back in as the team's regular right fielder in the middle of a playoff race. Like many young players, Perez has had some ups and downs during his debut campaign, though he's flashed signs of promise for future seasons.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Starting rehab assignment

Perez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez has been sidelined since Aug. 10 with a strained left oblique, but he took live batting practice over the weekend without issue to gain clearance to play in rehab games. The young switch-hitter shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before returning to the Tigers' active roster.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Exits with injury

Perez was removed from Friday's game against the Giants due to left abdominal tightness, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Perez drew a walk and struck out before being pulled from the game in the fourth inning. He'll presumably undergo further testing to determine the severity of his injury. Bligh Madris entered as the 24-year-old's replacement, but Parker Meadows could begin to see more work against left-handed pitching if Perez is forced to miss any time.

Perez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Guardians. Perez went deep for the second time in the last five games and seventh time this season. The rookie has enjoyed a fairly productive July, as he has four home runs and nine RBI in 18 games this month to go along with a .773 OPS. Perez has been a pleasant surprise for the Tigers, and the 24-year-old should continue to receive ample playing time as the team focuses on his development.

The 24-year-old rookie is understandably going through some ups and downs, but it looks like he'll continue to see regular playing time for the Tigers, at least while Kerry Carpenter (back) is on the injured list.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Batting leadoff Sunday

Perez is starting in right field and batting first in Sunday's game against the Brewers. The 24-year-old rookie is 0-for-12 across his last four games, which has lowered his batting average from .268 to .247. Despite the recent slump, Perez should continue to see semi-regular playing time moving forward, mixing in with Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Akil Baddoo in Detroit's outfield.
