Wright (shoulder) struck out six and allowed two hits and one walk over four scoreless innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Omaha.
Making his seventh start in the minors overall this season and the fifth of his current rehab assignment, Wright delivered his sharpest performance to date. He recorded 12 outs on 65 pitches (41 strikes) in Sunday's outing, inducing five swings and misses along the way. Wright's 30-day rehab window will come to a close June 24, so he'll presumably make one more start in the minors before being activated from the 60-day injured list. Though Cole Ragans (shoulder) is likely to remain on the shelf through the All-Star break, rookie Noah Cameron has thrived while replacing him in the rotation, so Kansas City may not have a starting role available for Wright upon his return.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Getting closer to return
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) struck out five and gave up one hit and one walk over 3.2 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Wright's rehab assignment moved up to Triple-A Omaha after beginning at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since September 2023 with Atlanta due to shoulder surgery and subsequent setbacks. The road back has been long and challenging, and while there may not be a clear spot in Kansas City's rotation, Wright is expected to be activated soon and could contribute out of the bullpen.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Resumes rehab with two-inning start
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) struck out a batter over two perfect innings in his rehab start Sunday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Wright made the third start of his rehab assignment but his first since May 7, after he had been held out of action for nearly two and a half weeks due to fatigue in his surgically repaired right shoulder. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in an MLB game since Sept. 28, 2023 and could end up making his return from the 15-day injured list as a long reliever if the Royals don't have a rotation spot available for him. A decision on what his role will look like with Kansas City should become clearer based on the workloads he handles in his subsequent rehab outings.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Set to resume rehab assignment
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) is expected to embark on a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Sunday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright had his rehab assignment with Northwest Arkansas paused due to right shoulder fatigue, but the 29-year-old right-hander has been given the green light to resume his program. He's made two outings in Double-A and has allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out five across six innings. Wright is in the final stages of his recovery from right shoulder surgery that he underwent in October of 2023.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Pulled off rehab assignment
Rotowire
Wright has been pulled off his rehab assignment due to right shoulder fatigue.
It's not altogether surprising given that Wright is coming back from major shoulder surgery, but it's a less-than-desirable development. The expectation is for Wright to be skipped for 1-to-2 starts before resuming his rehab assignment, but that will depend on how he recovers. Wright has made two rehab starts with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, allowing six runs (five earned) with a 5:3 K:BB over six innings.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Tosses four innings in rehab start
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder/hamstring) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings in his rehab start Friday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Wright made his first appearance in affiliated ball since 2023, as he spent all of last season recovering from right shoulder surgery and then sustained a minor hamstring strain in spring training. Given the time he's missed, Wright could need close to the full 30-day rehab window before the Royals bring him back from the 15-day injured list, though he handled a fairly hefty workload (60 pitches) in his first start. He's scheduled to make his second minor-league start Wednesday.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Set to begin rehab assignment
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder/hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment May 2 at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, MLB.com reports.
Wright was behind in spring training as he continues to work his way back from October 2023 right shoulder surgery, and he suffered an additional setback in the form of a hamstring strain in late February. Expect Wright to have a lengthy rehab stint as he works his way back to form.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Slated for three inning in ACL
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder/hamstring) is scheduled for three innings in the Arizona Complex League on Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright entered the season on the injured list as he continues rehab on his right shoulder along with a hamstring strain he suffered in camp. The right-hander doesn't have a clear timeline for his return, but his return to game action indicates his 2025 MLB debut may not be too far off.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Throws live BP Thursday
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder/hamstring) threw a live batting practice session Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright was initially behind early on in camp as he continues to work his way back from October 2023 right shoulder surgery, and he suffered an additional setback in the form of a hamstring strain in late February. The righty is now ramping things back up, but it's not clear when he might be ready to pitch in a game.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Aims to face hitters next week
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) hopes to progress to throwing a live batting practice session next week, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright is coming off a lost 2024 season due to shoulder surgery and had a minor early-camp setback with a hamstring issue. The right-hander will need time to get built back up, so it's going to be a while before he's game-ready.
Wright (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright continues to recover from a procedure in October of 2023 to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder. He suffered a minor setback in February when he sustained a mild hamstring strain, but he was able to get back on the mound Saturday. Wright showed a glimpse of his potential in 2022 with Atlanta, when he went 21-5 over 30 regular-season starts while posting a 3.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 174:53 K:BB across 180.1 innings to finish 10th in the National League Cy Young vote.
Wright (shoulder) is dealing with a mild right hamstring strain, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright suffered the injury while throwing recently. He has been able to continue playing catch, but the hamstring issue will set his throwing progression back a bit as he returns from shoulder surgery. Wright will be re-evaluated next week. The righty had already seemed like a long shot to win a spot in the Royals' rotation, and this setback won't help his case.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Could throw live BP next week
Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) could be ready to throw a live batting practice session next week, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Recovering from surgery to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder, Wright will throw at least one more bullpen session before progressing to facing hitters. The righty hopes to be ready for Opening Day, but it will depend on how he looks and feels as he ramps things up. Wright could potentially compete for a spot in the Royals' Opening Day rotation, but he might be a long shot given how much time he's missed -- he didn't pitch at all in 2024, and he struggled over 31 innings for Atlanta in 2023 -- and the fact that he's behind other arms in camp.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Avoids arbitration
Rotowire
The Royals and Wright (shoulder) avoid arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.8 million contract Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright will make the same salary in 2025 as he made in 2024 when he missed the season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder. The right-hander has been throwing off a mound and hopes to be without restrictions during spring training as he competes for a spot in the Royals' rotation.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Placed on 60-day IL
Rotowire
The Royals placed Wright (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Wright is set to miss the entire 2024 campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery in October, so it was only a matter of time before he landed on the IL. Wright's spot on the 40-man roster will be given to John Schreiber, who was acquired from the Red Sox on Saturday.

Rotowire
Wright (shoulder) agreed to a one-year contract with the Royals on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Wright, who will miss the entire 2024 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, was traded from Atlanta to Kansas City earlier this offseason for Jackson Kowar. If he can make a full recovery, Wright could pitch near the top of the Royals' rotation in 2025.

Royals' Kyle Wright: Traded to Kansas City
Rotowire
Kansas City acquired Wright (shoulder) from Atlanta on Friday in exchange for Jackson Kowar, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Wright has already been ruled out for the entire 2024 season after requiring surgery last month to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder. He won 21 games in 2022, though, and makes sense as a reclamation project for a Royals team that is hoping to eventually shift out of rebuilding mode.

Wright underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder.
Wright will miss the entire 2024 campaign as he recovers from the procedure. He strained his shoulder multiple times this season and posted an ugly 6.97 ERA and 1.84 WHIP through 31 innings when he was healthy -- a sharp decline from his 3.19 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 2022.

Braves' Kyle Wright: Likely out for 2024
Rotowire
Wright is expected to undergo shoulder surgery that will cause him to miss the entire 2024 season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Wright landed on the 60-day IL on Friday with a right shoulder strain. Considering he already suffered the same injury earlier this season, he'll now go under the knife to address the issue directly and look forward to a likely return in 2025. Wright had a 3.19 ERA in 2022 but wasn't very effective when healthy this year, posting a 6.97 ERA and 1.84 WHIP alongside a 34:17 K:BB through 31 innings.

Braves' Kyle Wright: Not on NLDS roster
Rotowire
Wright will not be on the roster for Atlanta's NLDS matchup against the Phillies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Wright registered an ugly 6.97 ERA over 31 innings when healthy this year and was shifted to the bullpen toward the end of the regular season. There is no spot for him -- either in the rotation or bullpen -- as the NL East champions roll into their best-of-five National League Division Series versus Philly.
