  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Sitting once again

Schneider is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. Schneider is without a hit in his past 30 at-bats and finds himself on the bench Tuesday for the fourth time in Toronto's past six games. The 24-year-old had one of the hottest bats in the majors after debuting in early August with seven homers and a 1.415 OPS in his first 21 contests, but his regression over the last couple weeks has been steep. Cavan Biggio has taken on a larger role of late and is batting cleanup as Toronto's second baseman Tuesday.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Not in Sunday's lineup

Schneider is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Schneider worked as Toronto's primary second baseman for the first half of September, but he's 0-for-30 over his past eight contests and will sit Sunday for the third time in five games. Whit Merrifield will start at second base and bat eighth in the series finale at Tampa Bay.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Out of lineup Friday

Schneider isn't starting Friday against the Rays. Schneider is 0-for-26 with 11 strikeouts across his last seven games, so he'll get a day off to regroup Friday. Santiago Espinal will start at second base in Schneider's place and bat ninth.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Takes seat Wednesday

Schneider is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Schneider started the previous 13 games but will receive a day to reset after he posted a .674 OPS and 33.3 percent strikeout rate during that span. Cavan Biggio will man second base while Spencer Horwitz receives a start at first with Vladimir Guerrero serving as the DH.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Crushes eighth homer

Schneider went 2-for-4 with a double and solo home run in Tuesday's loss to Texas. Schneider smashed a 418-foot moonshot off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning that boasted 104.9 mph exit velocity for his eighth homer of the season. The rookie has garnered 15 starts in the Blue Jays' last 16 games amid a torrid stretch dating back to Aug. 26. In 51 at-bats since then, he has hit .373 with nine doubles, five homers, 16 runs and 14 RBI.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Continues to rack up walks

Schneider went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored Sunday in the Blue Jays' 5-2 win over the Royals. The 24-year-old rookie has only moderately cooled down from his red-hot start to his big-league career with the calendar flipping in September. While starting at second base, third base or designated hitter in eight of the Blue Jays' first nine games of the month, Schneider is slashing .269/.486/.654 with six extra-base hits (one home run, one triple, five doubles), seven runs, five RBI and 10:12 BB:K. He should have a clear path to a near-everyday role while Matt Chapman (finger) is on the injured list, and even once Chapman returns, Schneider may have played well enough to keep getting regular playing time in a super-utility role.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Possible waiver wire pickups

Schneider's big-league career began with a nine-hit weekend in early August, earning him a prominent placement in that Monday's Waiver Wire article. But as suddenly as he appeared, he disappeared for the Blue Jays, getting only sporadic opportunities in the weeks that followed. Well, here we are for Round 2. Thanks to an injury for Matt Chapman, Schneider has started five straight games for the Blue Jays and collected nine more hits, going 9 for 17 (.529) with three homers, three doubles, a stolen base and more walks (four) than strikeouts (two). The exit velocities won't blow anyone away, but he was plenty productive at Triple-A as well, slashing .275/.416/.553 with 21 homers in 87 games. There may be no looking back this time, so if you need help at second or third base, Schneider is deserving of your attention.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Goes yard again

Schneider went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Nationals. The rookie got the Blue Jays on the board in the third inning with a solo shot off MacKenzie Gore. Schneider has started four straight games -- two at second base and one each at third base and left field -- as the Jays try to cover for the absences of Bo Bichette (quadricep) and Matt Chapman (finger), and he's racked up eight RBI, five runs and eight hits with six of them (three doubles and three homers) going for extra bases. Schneider's also hit fifth or higher in all four games, as manager John Schneider (no relation) rides the hot hand to try and spark an underachieving Toronto offense.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: On bench for third straight

Schneider is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. Schneider was a popular waiver-wire pickup after he opened his big-league career with nine hits -- including two home runs -- in his first three games, but he's gone 1-for-12 with seven strikeouts over his subsequent four contests and no longer looks to be in store for steady playing time. He'll be on the bench for a third straight game Wednesday.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Possible waiver wire pickups

It's true that Schneider wasn't a highly regarded prospect prior to his call-up Friday, but it's also true that he was doing plenty of damage at Triple-A, homering 21 times in just 87 games while reaching base at a .416 clip. His exit velocities were nothing special, so this isn't a player who's oozing with raw talent. But he's one who has learned to maximize what he has, as evidenced by his high fly-ball and pull rates at Triple-A. Pulling the ball in the air is the most surefire way to make up for middling exit velocities, and it helps explain why Davis homered twice in his first three major-league games. But his 9-for-13 start might give you a false impression of his batting average potential given the likelihood of fly-ball outs. A Spencer Steer outcome is on the table here, but it depends on Schneider continuing to produce. Having him at second base forces Whit Merrifield to the outfield, which may not be an everyday solution.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Officially promoted to bigs

Toronto selected Schneider's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. Schneider doesn't have a clear path toward regular playing time with the Blue Jays, but the 28th-round pick from the 2017 MLB Draft has forced his way to the bigs after registering a .969 OPS with 21 home runs and 21 doubles across 87 games this summer at Triple-A. He'll likely operate as a super-utility option at a variety of positions while offering some pop off the bench.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Getting call-up to Jays

Schneider will be called up to the Blue Jays on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Schneider was a 28th-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, but he has steadily risen through the Jays' minor-league system and had exploded for a .969 OPS with 21 home runs and nine stolen bases through 87 games this season at Triple-A Buffalo. It's not exactly clear how he might fit into Toronto's lineup, but the 24-year-old has played pretty much every position on the diamond since beginning his professional career. Most of his starts with Buffalo have come at either second base or left field.
