  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Losing work to Narvaez

Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. The 28-year-old will hit the bench for the fourth time in five games and looks to have at least temporarily fallen behind Carlos Narvaez on the depth chart at catcher. Wong produced a respectable .758 OPS over 487 plate appearances with Boston in 2024 but has struggled to find a rhythm at the plate since rejoining the big club May 2 following a stint on the injured list due to a broken finger. He's gone just 4-for-18 with one walk against six strikeouts since being activated and is slashing .146/.239/.146 overall on the season.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Falling into timeshare arrangement

Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. After going 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk in Saturday's 10-1 win, Carlos Narvaez will be rewarded with another start behind the dish. The Red Sox have turned their catching situation into a timeshare with Wong stumbling to a .396 OPS over his first 42 plate appearances this season. Narvaez, meanwhile, owns a .730 OPS across 102 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Sitting Saturday

Wong is not in Boston's lineup Saturday against the Royals. Wong is sitting for the second time in Boston's last three games, though he should return Sunday for the series finale against Kansas City. Carlos Narvaez will take over behind the plate and hit eighth.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Resting up Thursday

Wong is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Wong will get some rest for the day game after he went 1-for-4 with a run scored while catching all nine innings of Wednesday's 6-4 win. He'll give way to Carlos Narvaez behind the dish in the series finale.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Resting Sunday

Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. After starting behind the dish in the first two games of the series following his activation from the 10-day injured list Friday, Wong will get a breather as the Red Sox wrap up their three-game set with the Twins. Carlos Narvaez will replace Wong behind the plate.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Returns to action

Wong went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 6-1 win over Minnesota. Wong spent nearly a month on the 10-day injured list with finger injury. While catcher is his primary position, Wong made six starts at first base in 2024 and could be an option there after Triston Casas left Friday's contest with a significant knee injury.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Activated from 10-day IL

The Red Sox activated Wong (finger) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. In a corresponding move, Boston optioned Blake Sabol to Triple-A Worcester. Wong suffered a broken finger back on April 7 but is ready to return ahead of Friday night's game against the Twins. Wong was hitting .087/.192/.087 with zero extra-base hits and zero RBI across 26 plate appearances prior to his injury.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Returns to Worcester's lineup

Wong (finger) started at catcher and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Wong was held out of Wednesday's game due to soreness in his finger but was back behind the plate Thursday for a full game. He's caught all three games while on rehab with the WooSox and could be activated at some point during Boston's weekend series against Minnesota. Wong has not yet caught on back-to-back days, which could be a requirement before the Red Sox activate him off the 10-day injured list.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Aiming for weekend return

Wong (finger) isn't catching on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday due to hand soreness, but manager Alex Cora is still hoping for an activation from the injured list this weekend, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The 28-year-old is experiencing some soreness after catching Tuesday's game, and he's expected to make another start for Worcester before potentially rejoining the Red Sox. Wong has gone 3-for-7 with a walk, a double and two RBI through two games of the rehab assignment, but his availability behind the plate is the real concern as he makes his return from a fractured left pinkie finger. Carlos Narvaez has played well in Wong's absence, and it appears Cora may plan to split playing time behind the plate rather than using Wong as a clear No. 1 option once both players are available, per Ian Browne of MLB.com.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Begins rehab assignment

Wong (finger) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his first rehab game with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. Shelved since early April with a fractured left pinky finger, Wong shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated from the 10-day injured list. He could be back with the Red Sox at some point later this week.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Catches bullpen session

Wong (finger) caught a bullpen session Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Wong will continue to catch bullpen sessions and perform other baseball activities as he ramps things back up after suffering a fractured left pinky finger in early April. He could be back with the Red Sox by early May.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Hitting off tee

Wong (finger) has progressed to hitting off a tee, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Recovering from a fractured left pinky finger, Wong hasn't done much catching yet but is expected to be cleared for that soon. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that Wong could return in around two-and-a-half weeks, while the catcher believes it'll be sooner than that.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Begins baseball activity

Wong (finger) has begun baseball activities including some catching drills, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Wong is out indefinitely with a fracture of his left pinky finger. • Red Sox's Connor Wong: IL move made official

The Red Sox placed Wong on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured left finger, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Wong suffered the injury Monday versus the Blue Jays when his hand was hit by a bat on a catcher's interference. It's not yet clear how long he will be sidelined, but it will surely be more than a minimum stay on the IL. Carlos Narvaez will be Boston's primary catcher while Wong is out and Blake Sabol has been recalled to back Narvaez up.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Gets breather for nightcap

Wong is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Wong will head to the bench after he went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Boston's 5-4 extra-inning win in the first game of the doubleheader. Carlos Narvaez will take over behind the plate and bat eighth in the nightcap.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Will start Saturday

Wong will start Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Wong was held out of the lineup for two straight games but is scheduled to be part of the starting crew Saturday and Sunday. It was mildly surprising to see Carlos Narvaez start Friday's home opener, but Narvaez may be the preferred catcher whenever Walker Buehler starts.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Out of lineup again Friday

Wong is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals. Wong isn't dealing with any known injury, but this is the second straight game he's sat out and Friday is Boston's home opener, so it's a bit curious that he's not in the lineup. Carlos Narvaez will do the catching and bat eighth Friday.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Getting breather Saturday

Wong isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus Texas, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Wong is off to a 1-for-7 start two games into the new season, and he'll now receive a day to rest while Carlos Narvaez starts behind the plate and bats eighth.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Homers in return

Wong started at catcher and went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's spring game against Minnesota. Wong returned to Boston's lineup after coming down with an illness last Wednesday. He made an immediate impact with a run-producing sacrifice fly in the first inning then a solo home run to lead off the fourth. The home run was his second of the spring. He's had just 15 at-bats in Grapefruit League action but is expected to be ready for the regular season.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Sitting out Tuesday

Wong is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Toronto, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. It looks to be a routine day off for Wong. Danny Jansen will do the catching for the Red Sox on Tuesday.
