Burnes will start Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The Brewers have, arguably, three viable candidates to take the ball in Game 1, but Burnes has been lined up to pitch and was really the only candidate. Burnes finished the 2023 season with a 3.39 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 200:66 K:BB over 193.2 innings foor the Brew Crew. He'll be opposed by rookie Brandon Pfaadt.... See More ... See Less

Burnes did not allow a run on five hits and one walk across four innings in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals. He struck out four. Burnes earned some rest in advance of the playoffs, only throwing 66 pitches across four innings before turning the ball over to Julio Teheran. The right-hander has put together another excellent season, pitching to a 3.39 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 193.2 innings. Notably, he reached the 200 strikeout milestone for the third season in a row, highlighting his consistency and reliability when taking the mound.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Earns win with five scoreless
Burnes (10-8) earned the win Friday, allowing two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings against the Marlins. He struck out six. Burnes was handed a big early lead and went into cruise control against Miami's punchless lineup, yielding only two singles in what was ultimately a 16-1 postseason-clinching victory for Milwaukee. The ace right-hander is lined up to make one final regular-season start next week against the Cardinals, but it could be an abbreviated outing as the Brewers plot out their plans for October.... Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Fans nine in no-decision
Burnes allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Washington on Saturday. Burnes sprained his ankle in his previous start Sunday against the Yankees but was able to take the mound six days later without restrictions. He allowed just one run and held a 5-1 lead through five frames but couldn't get out of the sixth, yielding five straight baserunners that resulted in three runs with two outs. Aside from his final frame, Burnes looked very strong, racking up 15 swinging strikes and nine punchouts. He's posted a respectable 3.69 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB across 63.1 frames over his past 10 starts but hasn't earned a win during that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Set to make next start Saturday
Burnes (ankle) is listed as the Brewers' scheduled starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Nationals at American Family Field. Burnes sprained his left ankle during his most recent outing Sunday against the Yankees, but he apparently emerged from his between-starts bullpen session no worse for the wear and will be ready to return to the bump on five days' rest. Heading into the weekend, the Brewers hold a comfortable 4.5-game lead over the Cubs for first place in the National League Central, but Burnes shouldn't face any limitations with his workloads or have any turns in the rotation skipped until Milwaukee officially clinches the division crown.... Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Sustains sprained ankle
Burnes was removed from Sunday's start against the Yankees due to a sprained left ankle, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Burnes struck out seven in eight no-hit innings during Sunday's matchup, but he suffered an ankle injury while making an inning-ending out in the seventh. Although he's sore, he expects to be fine for his next start, which tentatively lines up for next weekend at home against the Nationals.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Falters after strong start
Burnes (9-8) took the loss against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over six innings. Burnes began well, retiring nine of 11 batters through three scoreless frames. However, he served up a game-tying two-run homer to Jack Suwinski in the fourth and yielded two more runs in the fifth. That was enough to saddle him with the loss in a game during which Milwaukee managed just two runs. Burnes extended his streak of starts without a win to eight contests, though he hasn't been all that bad during that span with a 3.99 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 49:16 K:BB over 49.2 frames. He's still above .500 with a 9-8 record on the campaign, though his 3.63 ERA is well below the standard he set over the previous three seasons, when his worst ERA was 2.94.... See More ... See Less -

Burnes (9-7) took the loss Tuesday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks over seven innings against the Cubs. He struck out seven. Burnes took advantage of favorable wind conditions at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, yielding just one run across seven frames, though he was ultimately stuck with his seventh loss of the campaign. The 28-year-old is winless across his last seven appearances, a stretch in which he owns a 3.71 ERA and 42:16 K:BB. Burnes is tentatively scheduled to take on the Pirates in Pittsburgh his next time out.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Hammered for six runs
Burnes did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings in a victory over the Twins. He struck out five. Burnes didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, allowing back-to-back singles to open the contest before going on to surrender three home runs on the day, the most he's allowed in a start since May 22. It was the right-hander's third time this season allowing at least six earned runs, and he's now given up at least five runs in two of his last three starts. Burnes holds a 4.74 ERA through four August starts after pitching to a 1.85 ERA in July and is now winless over his last six outings.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Stuggles in no-decision
Burnes did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against the White Sox. He struck out five. Burnes had not allowed more than two runs in any start since the beginning of July, and the 11 baserunners he allowed were more than in any of his starts since 2021. Despite his struggles, Burnes left with the lead in the sixth, but the Brewers allowed the White Sox to send the game to extras, negating the opportunity for Burnes to pick up his 10th victory. Burnes' next opportunity to reach double figures in the win column will likely come next week in a road matchup against the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Tosses another quality start
Burnes completed six innings Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five batters in a no-decision against Pittsburgh. Despite tying a season high with four walks, Burnes was effective in the outing, allowing just a pair of hits. Both of those knocks came in the fifth inning, with the second of the two -- a Jason Delay double -- producing both of the runs charged to his ledger. The veteran hurler stuck around to complete six frames, giving him his seventh consecutive quality start and his 16th overall on the season, tied for third in the majors. Burnes' stats haven't been quite as good as they were the past few seasons, but he's still been impressive with a 3.42 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 141:50 K:BB over 139.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Fans five in no-decision

Burnes turned in six quality starts in July, registering an impressive 1.85 ERA and 47:13 K:BB through 39 innings during that span. He allowed two or fewer runs in each of those six outings. His season ERA has dropped to 3.44 with a 136:46 K:BB through 22 starts. Burnes is currently projected to face the Pirates at home this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Takes loss despite quality start
Burnes (9-6) was charged with the loss Tuesday against the Reds after he gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six. Burnes was once again in peak form, though Cincinnati was able to tally a pair of runs during the fourth inning on two singles, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The right-hander totaled 31 called and swinging strikes as he delivered a fifth straight quality start, though he was unable to extend his four-start win streak. Burnes has a 3.46 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 131:43 K:BB across 127.1 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Fans 10 over eight scoreless
Burnes (9-5) earned the win after striking out 10 Phillies on Thursday, allowing two hits and a walk over eight scoreless innings. It's the second straight start with double-digit strikeouts for the right-hander after he failed to top nine in his first 18 outings of the year. Burnes has won four consecutive starts and has a 1.33 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 36:9 K:BB across 27 innings during that stretch. A matchup with the Reds likely awaits early next week, and he has a 2.50 ERA with 26 strikeouts over 18 frames in his three starts against them this season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Punches out 13 in win
Burnes (8-5) earned the win Friday, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings against the Reds. He struck out 13. At one point Burnes stepped off the mound and was evaluated by the medical staff, but he powered through whatever was ailing him and finished with his first double-digit strikeout performance of the season. The Milwaukee bullpen completed the shutout and brought the Brewers back into a tie for first in the NL Central. Burnes, who was told by GM Matt Arnold that he will not be traded at the deadline, now has a 3.73 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 113.1 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -

Burnes has won consecutive starts for the first time since April, giving up four runs over 13 innings in those two wins after being tagged with 14 runs in his previous three outings. The 28-year-old righty lowered his ERA to 3.94 with a 102:39 K:BB through 107.1 frames this season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Picks up sixth win
Burnes (6-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks over seven innings against the Pirates. He struck out seven. The right-hander had a perfect game going through five innings but gave up two runs on a hit, two walks and a hit-by-pitch during the sixth. Burnes rebounded with a scoreless seventh before turning things over to Milwaukee's bullpen, which almost squandered a nine-run lead. The strong outing was a welcome sight for Burnes, who surrendered 11 runs and struck out just six batters over his previous two starts. It's been an up-and-down season through 17 starts for the 28-year-old, who has posted a 4.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 96:35 K:BB across 101.1 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Can't escape sixth frame
Burnes allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Guardians. He did not factor into the decision. Burnes gave up an early home run to Josh Naylor to put the Guardians ahead in the second and was able to keep them in check until he got a little wild in the sixth. Burnes allowed three hits, walked two and threw a wild pitch during a three-run inning and couldn't even make it through the frame. He's now surrendered a home run and at least seven hits in each of his last three starts and his ERA sits above a 4.00 (currently at 4.10) for the first time since late April. The 28-year-old has just one win since May 12 and will look to change his fortune in a road matchup against the Pirates next weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Roughed up in first frame
Burnes dropped to 5-5 in Monday's 9-1 loss to Arizona, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings. Nearly all of the damage against Burnes came in the first inning, when he gave up six runs on five hits. The scoring tally in that frame matched the total Burnes had yielded over 20 innings in his previous three starts combined. To his credit, the right-hander hung around for four more frames and gave up just one more run, but Milwaukee's offense never came close to making the game interesting. Burnes had registered four straight quality starts coming into the contest, but he's had an uncharacteristic number of blow-ups this season, giving up five or more earned runs on four different occasions. His 3.96 ERA is on track to be his worst since 2019.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Deals fourth straight quality start
Burnes didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Twins, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk over six-plus innings. He struck out eight. The right-hander was en route to his sixth win of the year until Minnesota struck for four runs in the bottom of the ninth off the normally reliable Devin Williams. Burnes generated a massive 33 called or swinging strikes among his 99 pitches, and he has nine quality starts on the season in 14 outings -- including four straight, a stretch in which he boasts a 2.33 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB through 27 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, likely to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.... See More ... See Less
