Woo allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.2 shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday. While he didn't give up a run, Woo needed 82 pitches (44 strikes) to get 11 outs. Manager Scott Servais elected not to push the young right-hander further, and the bullpen was able to keep the shutout going with 5.1 scoreless innings distributed between five relievers. Woo finishes the regular season with a 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93:31 K:BB as well as a 4-5 record through 18 starts spanning 87.2 innings. He also logged 44 innings with a 2.05 ERA with Double-A Arkansas after throwing just 57 innings across three levels last year. Should the Mariners push their way into the postseason, Woo would likely work out of the bullpen if he gets onto the playoff roster at all.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Bryan Woo: Surrenders four homers in loss
Woo (4-5) allowed six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six in just 3.1 innings during a loss to the Rangers on Sunday. Sunday was a nightmare outing for Woo, who had given up just six home runs in 16 starts heading into the day but surrendered four long balls and recorded just 10 outs in Texas. Marcus Semien led things off with a solo blast in the first followed by a two-run shot from Corey Seager in the third. Adolis Garcia then kicked off the fourth with a homer and Woo was finally pulled after Leody Taveras went deep just three batters later. Woo has sandwiched two scoreless outings in between two poor outings during which he combined to give up 11 runs. He'll look to end the regular season on the right foot with a rematch against the Rangers this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Walks four in win
Woo (4-4) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out six over five shutout innings to earn the win Monday over the Athletics. While Woo's four walks were a season high, he was able to turn in his third scoreless outing in his last four starts. Two of those efforts have been against Oakland, so there is somewhat of a caveat for the quality of the opponent, but it's still encouraging to see the rookie find a groove late in the year. Woo is at a 3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB through 80.2 innings over 16 starts. He is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Possible waiver wire pickups
While Sawyer Gipson-Long is getting all the headlines today, Bryan Woo might be the better pickup for this week. He gets not only the same favorable matchup at the Athletics to begin the week but also a second turn at the Rangers to end it -- a more difficult matchup, yes, but generally speaking, two is better than one. That's especially true if the pitcher is any good, and there's ample reason to believe Woo is. He has a 2.61 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in four starts since returning from a mild forearm issue, most recently registering eight strikeouts (with 19 swinging strikes) in 5 2/3 shutout innings against the Angels. His overall 4.16 ERA might give you pause, but his 3.29 xERA is more representative of the way he's actually pitched. He's not my No. 1 sleeper pitcher for this week, but he's the highest-ranked of those that didn't also appear in a Waiver Wire article last week.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Championship pickups
It's hard to imagine you'd use Woo against the Rangers in the final week, but he gets two starts next week, the first of which being against a miserable Athletics lineup. He hasn't been working particularly deep into games but has been highly effective in three of four starts since returning from a forearm injury.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Steady in third win
Woo (3-4) allowed four hits and struck out eight without walking a batter over 5.2 shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Angels. Woo received some extra rest between starts, and it seems that paid off for the Mariners. He threw 67 of 83 pitches for strikes, and just one of the four hits he allowed went for extra bases. The rookie right-hander has won two of his last three outings, allowing five runs over 16.2 innings in that span. He's at a 4.16 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 76:22 K:BB through 75.2 innings over 15 starts. Woo's tentatively projected for a favorable road start in Oakland next week, though it's unclear if the Mariners will build in any additional time off for him as they remain in pursuit of a playoff spot.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Being skipped in rotation
Woo won't start Saturday against the Rays and will have his turn in the Seattle rotation skipped, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Seattle will go with a bullpen game Saturday instead, with Luke Weaver serving as the bulk pitcher. Woo is up to 114 innings this season between the minors and majors -- double what he threw in 2022 -- and he was knocked around for five earned runs over five innings in his last start Tuesday at Cincinnati. The 23-year-old will grab some extra rest before presumably returning to the Mariners' rotation late next week.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Falls to Cincinnati
Woo (2-4) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against Cincinnati without recording a strikeout. The Reds got to Woo early Monday, scoring twice in the first inning before adding three more in the second on a Spencer Steer home run. The rookie right-hander would eventually settle in, delivering three scoreless frames to finish the outing, though he'd ultimately take his first loss since July 23. Woo had pitched well since coming off the IL in late August, allowing just one run in his previous two starts (10 innings). Overall, he sports a 4.50 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 14 starts (70 innings) this season. Woo's tentatively lined up for a road matchup with the Rays in his next outing.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Solid in no-decision
Woo didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's victory over the White Sox, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three. As expected, Woo was capped at four innings during his return from a stint on the injured list due to forearm inflammation. The rookie right-hander pounded 43 of 65 pitches in for strikes and settled in nicely after giving up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn in the first inning. Now apparently back to full health, Woo looks like he could go long enough to qualify for a decision in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for either Sunday against the Royals or Monday versus the Athletics.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Unlikely to qualify for win Tuesday
The Mariners will likely limit Woo to four innings Tuesday against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Woo was just activated from the injured list after missing 18 days with a forearm injury, and since he didn't go on a rehab assignment, the team will be cautious with his workload in this first start back. He is a solid add in fantasy going forward, but don't expect Woo to qualify for a win in Tuesday's start.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Reinstated from IL
Woo was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the White Sox. Woo missed almost three weeks with right forearm inflammation. The rookie did not need a rehab assignment after the Mariners were pleased with how his bullpen sessions went. As he works himself back from the injured list, his workload may be monitored. The starting pitcher returns as Emerson Hancock (shoulder) heads to the 60-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Set to start Tuesday
Woo (forearm) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. As expected, Woo will be ready to rejoin the Seattle rotation after spending close to the minimum 15 days on the IL due to right forearm inflammation. The rookie didn't require a rehab assignment, as the Mariners were seemingly pleased enough with how Woo checked out during a recent 20-pitch bullpen session late last week. However, expect the Mariners to be cautious with his workload in his first game back from the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: On track to return next week
Woo (forearm) is on track to rejoin the Mariners' rotation early next week against the White Sox, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Woo will throw what's expected to be a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday and, as long he comes out of it with no issues, will be back with Seattle next week as part of a six-man rotation. The rookie right-hander has missed most of August with right forearm inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Tosses quality start Thursday
Woo pitched six innings against the Angels on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision. Woo got through five scoreless frames before the Angels tagged him for two runs in the sixth. The right-hander departed in line for a tough loss but was let off the hook when Seattle rallied for four runs in the ninth. Woo got back on track in the strikeout department, fanning six batters after failing to record a punchout over five frames in his previous outing. His quality start Thursday was the third of his rookie campaign so far.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Logs zero punchouts in five frames
Woo pitched five innings against Arizona on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out zero batters in a no-decision. Woo came into the contest with 54 punchouts over 44 big-league frames, so it was surprising to see him tally five innings without recording a single strikeout. Despite that oddity, the rookie righty managed a respectable showing, keeping Arizona off the scoreboard through three frames before allowing three runs over the fourth and fifth. Woo's ability to miss bats is perhaps his most alluring asset in fantasy, and it's logical to expect this outing to be an aberration in that regard. Still, Woo's a risky pitcher to roster in fantasy redraft leagues given a few shaky starts this season, as well as the likelihood that he'll be shut down at some point to limit his workload.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Fans seven in loss
Woo (1-3) allowed four runs on four hits and a walk over six-plus innings Sunday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Toronto. Woo tossed three scoreless frames before coughing up a two-run shot to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. Woo's given up multiple homers in two straight games after being taken deep just once in his previous four outings. Following a stretch of six consecutive starts allowing two or fewer runs, he's been tagged with 10 runs over his last two appearances. While his ERA rose to 4.91, he's sporting a strong 54:13 K:BB across 44 career MLB innings. Woo's next start is projected to be in Arizona.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Solid in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Saturday. Woo was arguably a little sharper than opposing starter Framber Valdez, but both pitchers exited with the game tied 2-2. This was Woo's second straight quality start, and it took him just 78 pitches (50 strikes) to complete six frames. While the four strikeouts matched a season low, he's allowed no more than two runs in each of his last six outings. He has a 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 34.2 innings over seven starts. The Mariners intend to be careful with the 23-year-old rookie -- he'll likely begin the second half in the rotation, but it's expected he'll be shut down at some point before the end of the season to manage his workload.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Turns in quality start
Woo allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings, taking a no-decision in Monday's 6-5 win over the Giants. Woo pitched well and completed six innings for the first time, earning his first quality start. The right-hander has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five starts, though he has just one win to show for it. He's at a 4.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB through 28.2 innings over six career starts. He's in line for one more start before the All-Star break, a weekend road outing versus the Astros.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Solid in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Tuesday. Woo continues to flash strong strikeout numbers with decent control -- he's at a 32:6 K:BB through 22.2 innings across his five starts. He gave up a run in the first and fifth innings Tuesday, but it was the Mariners' bullpen that cost him a chance at his second win. The rookie right-hander has a 4.37 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, and he's settled down after a shaky debut in Texas on June 3. With Marco Gonzales (forearm) suffering a setback, Woo should remain in the rotation well into July. He's projected to make his next start in San Francisco next week.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Strikes out nine in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine without walking a batter over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Friday. Woo was sharp, though two of the three hits he allowed were solo home runs by Gavin Sheets and Andrew Benintendi. After a rough debut, Woo has turned in a couple of reasonably solid starts with 16 strikeouts over his past 10.1 innings. He's still at a 7.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but his 20:2 K:BB is a positive sign that he has the control to hang around in the majors. He'll remain in search of his first win next week in a projected road start versus the Yankees.... See More ... See Less
