Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Heading back to Triple-A
Malloy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
This move corresponds to Reese Olson (blister) getting activated from the injured list. Malloy was recalled Wednesday, so his stay was brief. He has a .208/.339/.281 slash line with one home run in 46 big-league games this season, with 15 of his 24 starts coming against southpaws.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Returning to big club
The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo. He'll start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals.
Malloy has spent the last month in Triple-A and slashed .300/.485/.371 with three steals and one home run in 97 plate appearances. He hasn't had as much success at the plate in the majors this season, but Malloy could get some playing time in the outfield or at designated hitter against left-handed pitching while he's up with the big club. The Tigers made room on the 26-man roster for Malloy by optioning right-hander Dylan Smith to Toledo.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Heading back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Malloy to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Malloy has slashed .260/.413/.360 against left-handed pitching this season, but he'll give up his spot on the 26-man active roster to Parker Meadows (arm), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. The 25-year-old Malloy will get regular playing time at Toledo and should receive another opportunity in the majors later on this season.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Drives in two Wednesday
Malloy went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Giants.
The Tigers staked San Francisco to a 3-0 lead, but Malloy helped power the comeback, driving in two on a fifth-inning single to give Detroit a 4-3 lead. The 25-year-old isn't doing much from a reserve role, as this was his first multi-hit effort since May 12, and he has only 16 RBI through 44 games this year to along with a .645 OPS. Malloy remains a power threat, particularly against lefties, but he's hard to trust for consistent fantasy production.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Drives in four in doubleheader
Malloy went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, four RBI and one run scored across both games of Thursday's doubleheader sweep over the Rockies.
Malloy got a rare start in right field in the day game, and he went 2-for-4 and with an RBI single in the third inning. He added a three-run double late in the nightcap. Malloy has mostly functioned as a short-side platoon option, sharing right field with lefty-hitting Zach McKinstry and Kerry Carpenter. Prior to Thursday, Malloy had gone 0-for-12 with three walks over his previous nine games. He's hitting .200 with one home run, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and no stolen bases over 84 plate appearances.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Hits first home run
Malloy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, two total RBI and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Padres.
Malloy extended Detroit's lead to 2-0 with a 389-foot blast off Kyle Hart, his first homer this season. He'd add a second RBI in the seventh with a double off Adrian Morejon. Malloy has gone 3-for-7 in his last two games after going 0-for-8 in his previous five contests. He's now slashing .208/.365/.333 with eight RBI and eight runs scored through 63 plate appearances while starting primarily against left-handed pitching.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Leading off Monday
Malloy is serving as the DH and batting first in Monday's game against the Brewers.
Malloy was out of the lineup two of the last three days but will slot back in with Milwaukee starting lefty Tyler Alexander. To make room for Malloy at DH, Spencer Torkelson will cover first base, with the lefty-hitting Colt Keith heading to the bench. Malloy has some appeal against southpaws, though he will likely fall back out of the lineup the next time Detroit faces a righty starter, with Keith returning to first and Torkelson sliding over to DH.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Losing work with Torres back
Malloy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.
The 25-year-old will hit the bench for the second time in three games and looks like he could be the odd man out of the lineup more often than not in the wake of Gleyber Torres returning from the injured list Friday. Malloy should have a regular spot in the starting nine against left-handed pitching, but his opportunities against righties may become sporadic unless the Tigers are willing to play Riley Greene in center field on a more consistent basis.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Not starting Friday
Malloy is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Twins on Friday.
Malloy has worked out of the leadoff spot in the lineup in the Tigers' last six games as the designated hitter. He'll begin Friday's game in the dugout while Colt Keith takes on DH duties against Twins right-hander David Festa. Malloy has started the season 6-for-26 with eight walks, four runs scored and four RBI.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Picking up sixth straight start
Malloy will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Yankees.
Malloy will make his sixth consecutive start -- including his fifth in a row out of the leadoff spot -- after getting on base at a .462 clip in 26 plate appearances since his March 31 call-up. The 25-year-old's long-term path to regular playing time could become murkier once the Tigers get at least one or two of Gleyber Torres (oblique), Matt Vierling (shoulder), Wenceel Perez (back) and Parker Meadows (arm) back from the injured list, but with none of those players are expected to return in the near future, Malloy should continue to enjoy a full-time role in a prominent lineup spot.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Recalled by Detroit
The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Malloy wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster despite a strong spring training, but the 25-year-old will join the big club after Detroit placed second baseman Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Monday in a corresponding move. Over 71 games with the Tigers as a rookie in 2024, Malloy slashed .203/.291/.366 with eight home runs and 21 RBI across 230 plate appearances, though he struck out at a 37 percent clip. Malloy won't be a direct replacement for Torres, but he could see some starts in the outfield or at designated hitter while all of Matt Vierling (shoulder), Parker Meadows (arm) Wenceel Perez (back) are on the IL.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Leadoff hitter Monday
Malloy will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the leadoff spot against the Mariners on Monday.
Malloy was recalled by Detroit from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, and he'll waste no time getting into his first major-league action of the season. He appeared in three games for Toledo before being called up and went 5-for-11 with two walks, one home run and five RBI.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Optioned to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Malloy to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Malloy had a solid spring in slashing .314/.397/.373, but he wasn't able to land an Opening Day roster spot even with the Tigers battling multiple injuries. Ryan Kreidler was awarded the Tigers' final roster spot.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Gets added competition
With the Tigers signing outfielder Manuel Margot on Sunday, Malloy has added competition in his bid for an Opening Day bench spot, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Margot signed with Detroit on a major-league deal, so he will give the team veteran depth in the outfield. Malloy, Spencer Torkelson and Jahmai Jones were previously thought to be battling for two open spots, but the addition of Margot likely means only one bench opening is left. Torkelson, the 2020 No. 1 overall pick, has had an impressive spring and recently started seeing some time in the outfield to add versatility, so he might have the inside track at this point given his power potential at the plate. If Malloy starts the season with Triple-A Toledo, he could still be an MLB option later in the year if a need arises.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Back in action
Malloy (illness) is in the lineup for Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta.
After turning the page on a stomach bug, Malloy will resume his bid for a bench spot on the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old has made a compelling case so far, going 13-for-43 in exhibition play, though only three of those hits have gone for extra bases (all doubles).

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Scratched with illness
Malloy was scratched from the lineup for Friday's split-squad game against the Yankees due to an illness, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The 25-year-old was penciled in to bat leadoff but will instead sit out due to a stomach bug. Malloy likely isn't in danger of missing Opening Day and should be back in action within a few days.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Continues solid spring
Malloy went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
While Malloy hasn't gone deep yet this spring, he is batting a solid .308 across 17 contests. Power is the 25-year-old's calling card, but after batting just .203 with a 37 percent strikeout rate as a rookie last year, the team would likely trade in a bit of his slugging ways for more consistent contact at the plate. Malloy may be a bench option for the Tigers to begin the regular season, though he has the upside to seize a larger role as the year progresses.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Inside track on roster spot?
Malloy seems well positioned to earn a roster spot coming out of camp, though he's still competing with several other players for a utility role, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Malloy's biggest selling point is probably his ability to hit lefties, and he sported an .893 OPS against southpaws across 61 regular-season plate appearances last year as a rookie. The 25-year-old is a bit limited defensively, serving mostly as a DH and occasionally playing in the corner outfield spots, though he is experimenting some at first base in camp. Spencer Torkelson profiles similarly as a lefty masher and is likely Malloy's top competition for a roster spot this spring. Ryan Kreidler is also in the mix for a utility role off the bench.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Trying out first base
The Tigers have asked Malloy to get work at first base during the spring, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Malloy played strictly in the outfield during the 2024 campaign, but Detroit has its sights set on increasing flexibility throughout the roster heading into 2025. Colt Keith will also see time at first base during the spring, which would increase the number of infield combinations available for the club if this idea pans out.
