  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Picks up loss Sunday

Bivens took the loss in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings defeat to the Dodgers, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and one intentional walk while striking out one over one inning. Tasked with protecting a tie game in the 11th inning, Bivens retired the first two batters he faced before surrendering three consecutive singles, allowing the Dodgers to take a commanding lead. The right-hander has been charged with five runs (four earned) in his last two outings. He now owns a 3.72 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 37:14 K:BB across 46 innings in 31 appearances this season.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Allows two runs vs. Philadelphia

Bivens allowed two earned runs on two hits -- including one home run -- over 1.1 innings in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Phillies. Bivens entered the game with two outs and a runner on third base in the sixth, retiring the first batter he faced to end the inning. However, the right-hander gave up a single and a home run in the seventh. Over his last 10 appearances, Bivens owns a 4.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB across 15.2 innings.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Fans two in defeat

Bivens struck out two in a perfect ninth inning during Friday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox. Bivens threw 14 pitches (nine strikes) to retire the side and keep the deficit at two runs. The 30-year-old has recorded a 2.79 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB over 9.2 innings in six appearances during June. Overall, Bivens owns a 3.11 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB across 37.2 innings in 23 games this season.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Vultures win Friday

Bivens (2-2) picked up the win in one-third of a scoreless 10th inning during Friday's 5-4 extra-inning victory over Atlanta. The 30-year-old was in the right place at the right time Friday, retiring Atlanta's final batter before Tyler Fitzgerald scored the game-winning run for the Giants in the bottom of the 10th. Bivens now owns a 3.07 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB across 29.1 innings in 19 games this season.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Fans two in scoreless outing

Bivens threw two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks, surrendering two hits and a walk while striking out two. Bivens turned in a solid performance in Wednesday's high-scoring matchup, allowing just two singles. The right-hander threw a season-high 39 pitches, 24 of which were strikes. The 30-year-old has allowed five earned runs (one home run) in his last five outings, recording a 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 5:2 K:BB across 8.1 innings.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Allows one run vs. San Diego

Bivens allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out one over 1.2 innings during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Padres. The right-hander replaced Landen Roupp in the fifth inning, inheriting a bases-loaded jam with one out. Bivens managed to get through the fifth without surrendering an earned run, though he eventually gave one up in the sixth on an RBI triple by Luis Arraez, the first he'd allowed since March 31. The 30-year-old now owns a 2.63 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11:6 K:BB across 13.2 innings over nine appearances.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Grabs first save

Bivens allowed a hit and struck out two over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Cardinals. Bivens has mostly been used in long-relief spots this year, but he was called on for a save chance after Ryan Walker pitched in a high-leverage spot in the eighth inning. Bivens was up to the task, earning his first major-league save, though he's not unfamiliar with the closing role after earning eight saves with Triple-A Sacramento in 2024. In the majors, Bivens has a 3.14 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB across 48.2 innings over 27 appearances (two starts).

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Returns to bullpen

Bivens appeared out of the bullpen in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Brewers, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks while striking out two in two innings. Bivens returned to a relief role after he had made his previous appearance as a starter Sunday, when he tossed 4.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out three in the Giants' 7-6 win over the Padres. The Giants still have a pair of openings in the rotation with Kyle Harrison (shoulder) recently joining Robbie Ray (hamstring) on the injured list, but rookies Mason Black and Landen Roupp will fill those spots rather than Bivens.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Drawing start Sunday

Bivens will start Sunday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Bivens will be making his second MLB start, with each of his last 13 appearances with San Francisco coming out of the bullpen after he tossed five innings and allowed one run in a no-decision during his start against the Dodgers on June 30. Despite being deployed in relief lately, Bivens should be relatively stretched out after he tossed four innings and 54 pitches in his most recent appearance in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. Landen Roupp and Tristan Beck are candidates to piggyback or work multiple innings behind Bivens if the right-hander isn't able to offer the Giants as much length in a starting role as expected.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Collects win Saturday

Bivens (3-1) allowed two hits and struck out two over three scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday over the Mariners. Bivens was called on for a long-relief assignment after Blake Snell walked six batters and allowed two runs over the first three innings. This was a sharp performance for Bivens, though it was just his second scoreless outing out of five since he returned to the majors Aug. 15. For the year, he's posted a reliable 2.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 28.2 innings over 16 appearances (one start). He'll likely remain in a multi-inning role moving forward.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Back in majors

The Giants recalled Bivens from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Bivens was optioned to Double-A Richmond following his last MLB appearance Aug. 4, but he was later promoted to Triple-A for his most recent outing, during which he allowed two earned runs in one inning. He'll now rejoin San Francisco to give the Giants a multi-inning option out of the bullpen while Randy Rodriguez (elbow) is on the injured list.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Returns to big leagues

San Francisco recalled Bivens from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Bivens will join the Giants ahead of their twin bill Saturday against the Rockies. The 30-year-old holds a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings with the Giants this season and is capable of pitching multiple innings out of the bullpen. Mike Baumann was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Tosses three innings

Bivens allowed a run on four hits and a walk over three frames in a no-decision Friday. He struck out two during the win over Cleveland. Bivens entered the game in the second inning and was tagged with a solo homer by Josh Naylor in the fourth. Over his last five outings, Bivens has given up two runs in 12 innings, dropping his season ERA to 2.65 through 17 frames. He should continue working as a bulk reliever or spot starter as necessary.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Likely to work in bulk relief

Bivens is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Erik Miller in Friday's game against the Guardians, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bivens tossed five innings of one-run ball in his first MLB start in his most recent appearance this past Sunday against the Dodgers, but he'll be available out of the bullpen for what's essentially his second turn through the rotation. The right-hander will most likely shift into a more traditional bullpen role after Friday, as the Giants should get one or both of Kyle Harrison (ankle) or Blake Snell (groin) back from the injured list by next week.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Opening Sunday's game

Bivins will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The right-hander has made five appearances since he received his first call-up to the majors in mid-June, and he'll make his first big-league start Sunday versus Los Angeles. Bivens last pitched Thursday versus the Cubs and covered one inning, and he's topped out at 49 pitches since joining the Giants. He should be able to provide some length but likely won't handle a full starter's workload. Slusser suggests that Landen Roupp -- whom the Giants called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday -- will likely work multiple innings in relief behind Bivens.

  • Giants' Spencer Bivens: Gets call to big leagues

The Giants selected Bivens' contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Bivens hadn't been used at Sacramento since Tuesday, so he'll provide the San Francisco bullpen with a much-needed fresh arm in Sunday's series finale versus the Angels. After Kyle Harrison (ankle) was scratched from the start Sunday and placed on the 15-day injured list, lefty reliever Erik Miller will be tabbed to open the game for the Giants. Bivens has four three-inning appearances under his belt in the minors this season and will be a strong candidate to see work behind Miller. The 29-year-old righty has accrued a 2.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB across 41.2 innings with Sacramento this season.
