  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Lands on IL with oblique strain

The Nationals placed Crews on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain.

Crews suffered the injury on a check swing during Tuesday's game against Atlanta. The severity of the strain has not been revealed, so it's difficult to say at this juncture how much time Crews might miss. Robert Hassell was called up from Triple-A Rochester to take Crews' spot on the roster and could get a long look in the Nationals outfield, especially with Jacob Young (shoulder) also banged up. Alex Call should also see an uptick in playing time.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Nursing back injury

Crews was removed from Tuesday's game against Atlanta with a left lower-back injury, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Crews aggravated his back on a check swing during his at-bat in the fifth inning, and he was replaced on defense to start the sixth. The 23-year-old said after the game that his injury is something he's been playing through for about a week, and he's scheduled to receive an MRI to determine if it's a structural issue. He can be considered day-to-day until the results of his tests come back.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Homers in win

Crews went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Orioles.

Crews smacked a three-run homer in the second inning and added a single in the fourth. While the 23-year-old has provided two home runs and five steals in May, he's gone just 8-for-53 with 17 strikeouts. He's slashing .191/.257/.331 with six long balls, 14 RBI, 23 runs scored and 11 steals across 171 plate appearances this season, and the Nationals appear content to let him work through his growing pains at the plate.

Crews is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Atlanta.

It's the first day off in more than a month for Crews, who has just a .412 OPS over his last 16 games. Alex Call is in right field and batting seventh in the series finale.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Steals 11th base of season

Crews went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored during Wednesday's 5-4 win over Atlanta.

Crews snapped out of a slump at the plate, logging his first multi-hit game since April 26 (17 games) on a pair of singles. Crews attempted to steal second base both times he reached, going 1-for-2 on the attempts. Through 159 plate appearances, Crews is slashing .189/.245/.317 with five home runs, 22 runs and 11 RBI.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Pilfers bag No. 10

Crews went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's loss to Atlanta.

The second overall pick in the 2023 First-year Player Draft has been as advertised on the basepaths, with Monday's steal being his 10th (in 11 attempts) in 39 games this season. Crews has also hit five homers, but a 27.8 percent strikeout rate against a 5.3 percent walk rate has held back his overall offensive game, leaving him with a .186/.245/.321 slash line.

Crews went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Reds.

He's still struggled tremendously at the dish and has just one hit over his last six games. For the year, Crews is slashing .197/.248/.325 with four homers, six RBI, 18 runs, and a 6:36 BB:K in 125 plate appearances.

Crews went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored in Friday's 5-4 win over the Mets.

After a slow start to the year, Crews now has hits in nine of his last 10 games -- he's gone 13-for-37 (.351) with a 1.044 OPS in that span. • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Homers twice in win

Crews went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI and four runs scored in Saturday's 12-11 win over the Rockies.

It was a much needed breakout effort for the 23-year-old, and he has now hit safely in four straight games without striking out. While he's still hitting an uninspiring .177 with two homers, four RBI, 11 runs scored and four steals across 65 plate appearances, Saturday's performance offered a glimpse of his potential to turn things around.

Crews is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Crews finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row against a right-handed pitcher. With the Nationals providing no indication that Crews is dealing with an injury, the consecutive absences from the lineup appear to be a result of poor production to begin the season; he enters Sunday's contest with a .116/.156/.116 slash line and a 37.8 percent strikeout rate in 45 plate appearances. Jacob Young will patrol center field Sunday while Crews takes a seat.
