  • Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Expected to bat second

Angels manager Ron Washington said Thursday that he sees Schanuel as the team's No. 2 hitter, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The left-handed hitting Schanuel slashed just .217/.379/.261 against lefties during his 29-game stint last season, but it sounds like the plan is to bat him second regardless of who the opposition is starting. He will be preceded in the lineup by either Mickey Moniak or Luis Rengifo at leadoff and followed by Mike Trout in the three hole and Anthony Rendon at cleanup.

  • Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Held out Tuesday

Schanuel (knee) isn't in the Angels' lineup Tuesday against Texas, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Knee tightness caused Schanuel to be removed from Monday's game during the seventh inning, and the Angels will give him an extra day to heal Tuesday. Brandon Drury will shift to first base in Schanuel's absence, allowing Eduardo Escobar to serve as the Halos' designated hitter.

  • Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Exits with knee issue

Schanuel was pulled in the seventh inning of Monday's game against the Rangers due to tightness in his knee, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Schanuel fouled a ball off his knee earlier in the contest and was initially able to remain in the game, but manager Phil Nevin noted Schanuel's knee began to tighten up later on, resulting in his removal. Schanuel will be considered day-to-day going forward, and the team plans to evaluate him further Tuesday, per Valenzuela.

  • Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Extends on-base streak

Schanuel reached on an infield single in the eighth inning of Saturday's 1-0 win over the Twins to extend his career-opening on-base streak to 26 games.

Schanuel barely beat out the throw to first base on his lone hit of the contest, but it was good enough to extend his franchise record of reaching base in 26 straight contests to begin a career. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, only three players in MLB history have exceeded that mark -- Alvin Davis (47) in 1984, Truck Hannah (38) in 1918 and Enos Slaughter (29) in 1938. Schanuel's impressive run has been fueled by an excellent 18:16 BB:K, and he's added a strong .283 batting average, though only three of his 28 hits so far have gone for extra bases.
