  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Throwing bullpen sessions

Gray (elbow) has recently progressed to throwing bullpen sessions of 30 pitches at the Nationals' spring training facility in Florida, MLB.com reports.

Gray isn't expected to resume pitching in games until late in the 2025 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure July 24, 2024, but he seems to making good progress in his recovery. He'll likely remain in Florida for at least a few more weeks to conduct his rehab and will eventually move on to facing hitters in live batting practice before he's cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Nationals placed Gray (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Sunday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure in July, so it was always a matter of time before he landed on the 60-day IL for this season. Gray started up his throwing program in late January and will continue building up his arm strength in the coming months in hopes of taking the mound late in 2025 for the Nationals.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Begins throwing program

Gray (elbow) began a throwing program Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Gray did some casual tossing on flat ground in what was his first time throwing since he underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure in July. He's got a long road to recovery ahead of him but is hoping to be available to pitch for the Nationals by the end of the 2025 season.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Gets deal for 2025

Gray (elbow) agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Nationals on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Gray underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure in July to address a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow. The Nationals haven't yet ruled him out for the entire 2025 campaign, but any appearance for the 27-year-old righty would almost certainly come in the final weeks of the season.
