  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Returns from IL

Triple-A Iowa reinstated Englert (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Thursday. Englert made his first appearance for Toledo since July 4 later that day, striking out one over a scoreless inning in the club's 5-3 loss to Iowa. The right-hander possesses a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster, but he may not be in the mix for a call-up anytime soon after posting a 5.95 ERA in 19.2 innings with the big club before getting optioned to the minors June 25 and then getting hurt shortly thereafter.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Beginning rehab assignment

Englert (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Englert has been sidelined since July 6 due to inflammation in his throwing elbow but will begin pitching in games Tuesday. The 24-year-old has bounced between the majors and Triple-A Toledo this season, logging a 5.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 19.2 innings with Detroit.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Shelved with elbow inflammation

Triple-A Toledo placed Englert on its 7-day injured list July 6 with right elbow inflammation, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Englert produced a 5.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over his 11 relief appearances for the Tigers before he was optioned to Triple-A on June 25. He made just three appearances for Toledo before being shut down with the elbow injury.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Effective in Saturday's loss

Englert tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the White Sox. Englert efficiently retired all seven batters he faced on just 24 pitches. The righty allowed five runs in an outing earlier this month, which has his ERA sitting at 5.79, but he's been mostly good otherwise. Not counting that rough appearance, Englert has a 3.78 ERA across 16.2 innings this year. He should continue to work in a long-relief role for the Tigers, which limits his fantasy upside.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Back in majors

The Tigers recalled Englert from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. Just one day after being sent down to the minors to make room for Shelby Miller, Englert will return to Detroit's bullpen as a replacement for Alex Faedo (hip). Englert was lit up for three runs in one inning during his season debut, but he has since turned in five scoreless innings across his last three MLB appearances. He'll likely serve in middle relief while Faedo is on the IL.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Optioned to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Englert to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. Englert has given up three earned runs in six innings since coming up from Triple-A in late May, but he will now return to Toledo in order to make room for Shelby Miller (elbow), who was activated from the IL on Tuesday. Englert owns an impressive 2.35 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 23 innings with the Mud Hens, and he could be the first choice to return to Detroit if the Tigers run into further depth problems in their bullpen.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Tosses two scoreless innings

Englert tossed two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pirates, which finished as an 8-0 Detroit win. Detroit ace Tarik Skubal dazzled across seven scoreless innings, then handed things off to Englert with a comfortable lead. Englert allowed three earned runs over an inning of work in his season debut six days ago, but he's logged three scoreless innings since then. The righty will remain a low-leverage reliever for now, which limits his fantasy upside, though his role could expand if the Tigers trade any veterans from their bullpen at some point down the road.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Recalled from Triple-A

The Tigers recalled Englert from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Englert has put up a 2.35 ERA and 34:9 K:BB over 23 innings with Toledo this season. The 24-year-old collected a 5.46 ERA across 31 appearances for the Tigers last year. He should operate in low-leverage situations.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Pulled off rehab assignment

Englert (hip) was pulled off his rehab assignment Sunday to undergo further medical evaluation, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Englert had allowed nine earned runs on 16 hits and four walks through 11.1 innings of work with Triple-A Toledo. He's been on the major-league injured list since late July due to left hip tightness and now seems doubtful to make it back to the bigs this year.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Set for rehab assignment

Englert (hip) is set to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Toledo, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Out since July 24 due to left hip tightness, Englert should be an option again for the Tigers' bullpen early next week. The 23-year-old right-hander has posted a 5.46 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB across his first 56 major-league innings this season with Detroit.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Sidelined with tight hip

The Tigers placed Englert on the 15-day injured list Monday with left hip tightness. Englert's move to the IL comes two days after he was lit up for nine earned runs on 10 hits and one walk over 2.1 innings of long relief in Saturday's 14-3 loss to the Padres. Prior to the disastrous outing, Englert had been a serviceable middle-relief option for the Tigers, accruing a 4.19 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB in 53.2 innings. A timeline for Englert's return from the injury hasn't been established, but he'll be eligible for activation beginning Aug. 7.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Earns win Friday

Englert (2-2) allowed one run on four hits across two innings of relief and earned the win Friday against the Twins. He had two strikeouts. Englert followed opener Will Vest and was able to earn the win despite allowing a lot of traffic on the bases during his two innings of work. The righty has a middling 4.87 ERA and 1.52 WHIP for the season, limiting his fantasy appeal. He has at least been able to give the Tigers some length out of the bullpen, as 14 of his 23 appearances this year have covered at least two innings.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Gets start in bullpen day

Englert will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Monday's game versus Atlanta. Englert will pick up his first MLB start Monday, but because he hasn't covered more than three innings in any of his 21 appearances on the season, he's unlikely to work deep enough into the contest to qualify for a win. The Tigers are treating Monday's contest as a bullpen day and use a number of relievers after Englert exits the contest.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Earns first win of season

Englert (1-1) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed one hit and struck out four. Detroit starter Spencer Turnbull only lasted four innings, so the Tigers needed Englert and others to provide some length out of the bullpen. The righty responded with a strong performance. Englert has been mostly good this season outside of allowing five runs over two innings back on April 11. He's also done a solid job of missing bats, as he now has 16 strikeouts across 16 frames this year.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Pitches well Tuesday

Englert tossed three scoreless innings of relief in a 4-3 win over the Guardians during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. He allowed two hits and struck out two. After starter Matthew Boyd went five innings, the Tigers turned to Englert, and he provided some valuable length out of the bullpen. The righty lowered his ERA from 6.30 to 4.85 in the process. Englert allowed five runs in an appearance last Tuesday, but outside of that poor outing, he's been a fairly solid long reliever. He should stick in that role for the time being on a Detroit team that doesn't have a ton of other great options.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Pitching well so far

Englert, who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox, now has a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP this season. It's a small sample size of just 5.1 innings, but Englert has looked good out of the bullpen. The righty only has one strikeout, however, so he may not be able to sustain his success if he doesn't miss more bats. Englert is locked into a middle-relief role for now, which limits his fantasy appeal, though he could see higher-leverage work down the road if he continues to pitch well.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Sticking with Detroit

Englert was informed Wednesday that he will be on the Tigers' Opening Day roster, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. The Rule 5 Draft pick joins Alex Lange, Jose Cisnero, Jason Foley, Tyler Alexander, Trey Wingenter, Chasen Shreve and Garrett Hill in Detroit's Opening Day bullpen. Englert, 23, registered a 3.64 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 136:31 K:BB over 118.2 innings (24 starts) last season between the High-A and Double-A affiliates of the Rangers.
