Cleveland activated Fry (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Fry is not in the starting lineup for Friday night's series opener against the Rays, but he'll be available off the Guardians' bench following a four-week absence to heal a left hamstring strain. The 27-year-old has slashed .250/.308/.429 with four homers and two steals across his first 42 major-league games this season.... See More ... See Less

Guardians' David Fry: Set for rehab assignment
Fry (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Friday. Fry last appeared in a game Aug. 4, but he resumed baseball activities just over a week ago. The 27-year-old will likely get two or three games with Columbus as he works his way back from a left hamstring strain. Once he's cleared to return, he'll be available to provide an additional short-side platoon option at catcher, first base, right field or designated hitter. Considering the Guardians already have three catchers on the roster and have bolstered their outfield this month, first base is his most reasonable path to playing time, at least until Josh Naylor (oblique) returns.... Guardians' David Fry: Placed on 10-day IL
Cleveland placed Fry on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to August 5, with a sore hamstring, Joe Noga of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. This helps to explain why Fry has been absent from the Guardians' lineup since Friday. He'll now remain sidelined for at least another week. Ramon Laureano, claimed off waivers from the Athletics on Monday, will fill the vacant 26-man roster spot ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' David Fry: On bench for second straight game
Fry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Though he appeared on track to move into an everyday role after Josh Naylor (oblique) was placed on the injured list Friday, Fry finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row following three consecutive starts at first base. Kole Calhoun will pick up the start at first base in place of Fry, whose move to the bench comes while he's gone 0-for-11 with a walk over his last five contests.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' David Fry: Homers again Wednesday
Fry went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Royals. Fry's now hit three homers over his last eight games while going 8-for-24 (.333) with a 1.176 OPS in that span. Overall, the 27-year-old Fry is slashing an impressive .288/.342/.493 with four homers, 13 RBI, 10 runs scored and two steals across his first 79 plate appearances. While Bo Naylor will see the majority of reps behind the plate, Fry should be able to earn fairly regular at-bats thanks to his ability to play multiple infield and outfield positions.... Guardians' David Fry: Blasts homer in loss
Fry went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Rangers. Fry got a rare start behind the dish Sunday and made it count. He's found ways to get in the lineup elsewhere, primarily in right field and at first base when he's not catching. The versatile 27-year-old is forcing the issue with a strong .288/.351/.423 slash line, two homers, eight RBI, six runs scored and a double over 57 plate appearances. He's not guaranteed an everyday role, but he can provide a little pop off the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' David Fry: Delivers walk-off knock
Fry went 2-for-4 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over Atlanta. Fry knocked in a run for the third time over his last five games, with this one coming via the walk-off hit in the 10th inning. The 27-year-old is starting to push for more playing time -- he's been in the lineup for three of the last five games. For the season, he's batting .293 with a home run, six RBI, two steals and four runs scored over 44 plate appearances. His versatility allows him to cover multiple positions around the diamond.... Guardians' David Fry: Notches first steal
Fry went 0-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-6 extra-inning win over the Cubs. Fry knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and stole second in the fourth inning. The steal was his first at the major-league level. Fry provides cover at a number of defensive positions, but he isn't getting into the starting lineup frequently -- he's started in just seven of the 24 games he's played. Fry owns a .270/.308/.378 slash line with a home run, five RBI and four runs scored over 39 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' David Fry: Belts first big-league homer
Fry went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a double and an additional run in Thursday's 8-6 victory versus the Padres. Fry helped Cleveland get off to a fast start with a three-run shot to left field in the first inning. It was the first long ball of his major-league career in his 20th plate appearance. Fry went deep 17 times at the Triple-A level in 2022, so he has demonstrated some pop in the past. His .227/.261/.409 slash line so far this season isn't going to turn many heads, but Fry's ability to play catcher (in addition to three infield spots) could open the door to more playing time given the offensive struggles of fellow backstops Mike Zunino and Cam Gallagher.... Guardians' David Fry: Starting at first base
Fry is starting at first base and batting fifth for the Guardians on Monday against the Tigers, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Fry finally gets his first start after being up with the big club for nearly a week. The 27-year-old hasn't even had a plate appearance yet, with his only action coming as a pinch-runner. Josh Naylor is getting a day off against lefty Joey Wentz.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' David Fry: Added to roster
The Guardians selected Fry's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Fry, 27, has hit .289/.381/.478 with two homers for Columbus this season. He's played first base, third base and second base this season and also has past experience at catcher. Fry will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.... See More ... See Less
