  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Takes fourth loss Saturday

Harris (4-4) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing a game-winning solo home run to the only batter he faced. Closer Mason Miller had garnered a 21-pitch save Friday night, so Harris was called on to preserve a 6-6 tie in the ninth Saturday. There wasn't much suspense before he proved he wasn't up to the task, as Andrew Benintendi took Harris deep to right field on the fourth pitch he saw from the left-hander for the game-winning hit. Harris was fresh after last having pitched Tuesday, but the stumble resulted in the third run he'd allowed over his last four appearances (4.2 innings).

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Picks up fourth win Tuesday

Harris (4-3) got the extra-innings win against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over two innings. He struck out three. Harris breezed through his first frame in the 11th while preserving a 2-2 tie, striking out two of the three batters he faced. He returned for the 12th after the Athletics had rallied for two runs in the top half of the frame, and although he allowed a double to Jose Altuve, Harris subsequently bore down and retired the dangerous trio of Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman to end the game. Harris has been effective out of the bullpen since his return to the big-league club in late August, mustering a 2-0 record, 0.93 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 9.2 innings over five appearances.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Earns win in stellar relief outing

Harris (3-3) got the win against the Mariners on Tuesday, firing three scoreless innings during which he allowed two walks and recorded three strikeouts. Harris took over following a quality start from rookie J.T. Ginn and put together a highly efficient long-relief effort, requiring only 37 pitches to record nine outs. The left-hander helped keep the Mariners at bay and then reaped the rewards when Seth Brown hit a walk-off single, affording Harris the first victory of his current big-league stint. Harris is likely to continue being used in a relief role down the stretch, although multi-inning outings will likely be the norm given he's capable of tolerating the elevated workloads.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Moved to Triple-A

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Harris will cede his spot in the rotation to Paul Blackburn (foot) on Friday with Blackburn coming off the 60-day IL. Harris' option comes as a bit of a surprise considering how effective he's been for Oakland. The 27-year-old has a 2.98 ERA in 54.1 innings spanning 11 appearances (nine starts).

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Wild in no-decision

Harris did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-2 win against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits and six walks with no strikeouts over three innings. Harris generated only two swinging strikes on 70 pitches. The southpaw doubled his season high in walks with six, but he has not surrendered more than three earned runs in an outing since his first appearance May 7. He will take a 3.40 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 35:23 K:BB across 47.2 innings into the All-Star break.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Returning Friday

Harris is in line to return from the paternity list to start Friday's game in Philadelphia. Harris has been away from the team for the maximum three games since being placed on the paternity list Tuesday, so Oakland would have had to add him back to the roster Friday even if he wasn't scheduled to start. He'll be taking the hill on six days' rest after facing Baltimore last weekend. Harris has been a dependable innings eater for Oakland, working between five and six frames in all but one of his last seven outings while delivering a 3.00 ERA and 1.36 WHIP during that stretch.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Goes on paternity leave

The Athletics placed Harris on the paternity leave list Tuesday. By rule, Harris will miss one game and as many as three games while he welcomes a new baby to the family. He had tentatively been lined up to start Thursday in Boston, but the Athletics should be able to just push him back a day or two -- if need be -- without disrupting the rotation much.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Falls flat versus Arizona

Harris (1-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks. Just two of the 10 hits against Harris went for extra bases, but he put too much traffic on the bases in each of the first four innings. The Athletics offered next to nothing in terms of offense, tallying two hits and a walk in the 3-0 loss. Harris had gone at least five innings in each of his previous five outings since he was recalled to the majors May 30. He's now at a 3.18 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings over eight appearances (six starts) this season. The southpaw is tentatively projected to make his next start at home in a tough matchup versus the Orioles.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Quality start in loss

Harris (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings, taking the loss versus the Twins on Sunday. Harris gave up a solo home run and an RBI double to Byron Buxton to account for two of the three runs on his line. This was the second time this season Harris has completed six innings, and he's earned a quality start both times. The left-hander has maintained a 2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB across 36.1 innings through seven appearances (five starts) this year. He's projected for a road start in Arizona his next time out.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Strong in no-decision

Harris allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Friday. Harris did well in his second start of the season, which ended up being a pitching duel against Toronto's Chris Bassitt. Harris previously allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out seven over 5.2 innings versus the Rays last Thursday. He's at a 2.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through 20.1 innings over four appearances (two starts) this season. The southpaw looks to have done enough to maintain his spot in the rotation for a road start versus the Padres next week. Harris will likely continue to operate as a starter while the Athletics are missing both Ross Stripling (elbow) and Alex Wood (shoulder).

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Starting on Friday

Harris will start Friday's contest against the Blue Jays, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The Athletics initially had Harris listed as their starter for Saturday's game and had Luis Medina slated to start Friday, but they've since been flipped in the pitching schedule. Harris struck out seven while yielding three runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings against the Rays last week in his first start of the season with Oakland. That came after he permitted four runs in nine frames covering two extended relief appearances.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Getting another start Saturday

Harris is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays in Oakland, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. The Athletics' decisions to designate Aaron Brooks for assignment over the weekend and to option Joe Boyle to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday after activating him from the injured list had already suggested that Harris was on track to remain in the rotation. Harris previously made two long-relief appearances for Oakland this season before drawing a start in Tampa Bay last Thursday, when he struck out seven and allowed three runs (one earned) over 5.2 frames in a no-decision. The southpaw has turned in a 7.67 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over his eight starts at Las Vegas this season and produced a 7.14 ERA over 63 innings in the big leagues in 2023, so fantasy managers should tread carefully with Harris for now even after his solid showing in his last outing.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Strikes out seven in first start

Harris did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Rays, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven. Harris gave up a pair of unearned runs on an Isaac Paredes homer with two outs in the first inning before holding Tampa to just one run over his final 4.2 frames while matching a career high with seven strikeouts. The 27-year-old Harris had allowed four runs in 8.2 innings in a long-relief role with Oakland earlier this year and struggled to a 7.67 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Las Vegas. Still, he could be in for another look in the A's rotation as they deal with a rash of injuries. The left-handed Harris would line up for a home start against Seattle in his next outing.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent back down

Harris was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Harris was called up Wednesday and fired off 3.1 scoreless frames Thursday against the Astros. However, he'll go right back to Triple-A on Friday to make room for Brandon Bielak, who was acquired via trade Thursday. In 25 innings at Las Vegas, Harris owns a 7.56 ERA with 23 walks allowed.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Moves up from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. Harris was optioned to Las Vegas just one week earlier, but he'll be eligible to rejoin Oakland since he'll be taking the active roster spot of Alex Wood (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Wood's injury will create an opening in the rotation this weekend in Kansas City, and if Harris isn't used in relief Wednesday or Thursday in Houston, he could be a candidate to fill the void. Harris has started in all seven of his appearances for Las Vegas this season, logging a 7.56 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over 25 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Summoned from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Oakland placed right-handed starter Joe Boyle (back) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move, but Harris won't necessarily replace him in the rotation. Instead, the Athletics may just be bringing Harris aboard to provide some length out of the bullpen, even though the lefty has worked exclusively as a starter at Las Vegas this season. Over his six starts at Triple-A spanning 21 innings, Harris has provided a 9.00 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 21:20 K:BB.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Optioned to Triple-A

Harris was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Harris has appeared in two games with the Athletics this spring, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking two while striking out six batters. The 27-year-old will look to impress in Las Vegas in order to earn a shot with Oakland's major-league roster down the road.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Wins as bulk reliever

Harris (3-6) earned the win Tuesday in the Athletics' 5-4 victory over the Royals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings. Harris wasn't sharp, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes in the bulk-relief outing, but he was able to keep the Athletics ahead after they took the lead in the second inning. It's an improvement on the eight runs in three innings he gave up Aug. 2 versus the Dodgers in his previous major-league outing. Harris has an uninspiring 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 56:28 K:BB over 63 innings through 14 appearances (six starts) in the majors this year. With Luis Medina (finger) on the injured list, Harris could stick as part of the rotation even if he continues to work behind an opener. Harris is tentatively lined up for a favorable road outing versus the White Sox over the weekend.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Called up, set for bulk-relief role

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas, and he's expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Dany Jimenez in Tuesday's game against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Oakland optioned right-handed reliever Tayler Scott to Las Vegas to make room on the active roster for Harris, who returns to the big club after a three-week stay in the minors. Harris was demoted to Triple-A after posting a 10.29 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in his final five outings with Oakland, and he didn't show any major improvements during his time in Las Vegas. He was lit up for 14 earned runs on 14 hits and seven walks over six innings in his last two starts at Triple-A, inspiring little confidence about his prospects for Tuesday. Jimenez will likely work no more than one or two innings before turning the game over to Harris.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Could join Oakland rotation

Harris could be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas this week to join Oakland's rotation, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Outside of a few brief stretches, Harris has had little success at both the big-league and Triple-A levels this season, but he looks poised to get another look in Oakland with yet another starter in Luis Medina (finger) going on the injured list Monday. The Athletics now have openings in the rotation for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Royals, and Harris could be a candidate to start either of those days. Harris is well rested after having not pitched at Triple-A since Aug. 15.
