  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: Dispatched back to Triple-A

The Athletics optioned MacIver to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

With Shea Langeliers (oblique) back from the 10-day injured list, MacIver's presence with the big club was no longer needed. He acquitted himself well during his first stint in the majors, posting a .737 OPS with a couple homers in 16 contests.

MacIver went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a pair of walks in Sunday's 12-5 loss to the Yankees.

MacIver got the A's on the board in the fifth inning with his solo shot off Marcus Stroman, his second big-league homer. The 28-year-old rookie has been productive of late, going 5-for-14 with a pair of homers and four extra-base hits in his last five games as he continues to split catching duties with Austin Wynns while Shea Langeliers (oblique) is sidelined.

This was his second multi-hit effort, and he's now batting .237 with three RBI, three runs scored, two steals and three doubles over 13 contests. MacIver and Austin Wynns will continue to share catching duties while Shea Langeliers (oblique) is out.

  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: Part of timeshare at catcher

MacIver is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

The rookie got three straight starts after Shea Langeliers suffered an oblique strain earlier this month, but MacIver has since moved into a timeshare with Austin Wynns following the veteran's acquisition from the Reds. The two backstops have alternated starts over the Athletics' last six games.

  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: Getting regular run behind plate

MacIver will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Angels.

MacIver will pick up his fifth start in seven games and looks poised to operate as the Athletics' primary backstop until Shea Langeliers (oblique) is cleared to return from the injured list. Since getting his first MLB call-up May 23, MacIver has gone 5-for-24 (.208 average) with a 1:7 BB:K, one double, one stolen base, two runs and two RBI through eight big-league games.

  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: In line for more playing time

MacIver is expected to have an expanded role at catcher while Shea Langeliers (oblique) is sidelined, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

MacIver was called up to the majors May 23 after dominating at Triple-A, where he slashed .389/.469/.548 with 30 RBI. Since debuting May 25, the 28-year-old has batted .227/.261/.273 with two RBI over seven games and 22 at-bats. With Shea Langeliers out due to an oblique strain, the Athletics appear likely to give MacIver a chance to prove himself over Jhonny Pereda for the time being.

The Athletics selected MacIver from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The Athletics are swapping out Jhonny Pereda for MacIver as the backup catcher. MacIver has hit the ball well at Triple-A this season, slashing .389/.469/.548 with two home runs, 30 RBI, 27 runs scored and two stolen bases across 147 plate appearances. • Rockies' Willie MacIver: Playing with rookie-ball affiliate

MacIver (shoulder) has gone 4-for-11 with two doubles, three walks, four runs, three RBI and three stolen bases over four games in the Arizona Complex League since being assigned to the Rockies' rookie-level affiliate June 5.

MacIver finished the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Albuquerque, but he opened the current season in the ACL while he works his way back from a significant right shoulder injury. The 26-year-old has performed well at the dish thus far in the ACL and should gradually move up the minor-league ladder before settling at Albuquerque or Double-A Hartford.

  • Rockies' Willie MacIver: Facing long-term absence

MacIver is expected to miss the first 6-to-8 weeks of Triple-A Albuquerque's season after he recently received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right shoulder, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

MacIver was pegged to serve as Albuquerque's primary backstop to begin the season, but the injury will likely keep him on the shelf until around late May or early June. The Rockies signed Grayson Greiner to a minor-league deal Tuesday to bolster their catching depth at Triple-A.
