Lodolo will not require surgery on his injured left tibia, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. He is however done for the season, as previously reported. Lodolo finished the 2023 campaign having thrown just 34.1 innings with a 6.29 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB. The southpaw still has plenty of upside heading into 2024, but he'll have to show he can stay healthy.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Nick Lodolo: Done for rest of year
Lodolo (tibia) was ruled out Thursday for the remainder of the 2023 season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. It's rather unsurprising news after Lodolo suffered a second stress reaction in his left tibia last week while making a rehab start for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. The 25-year-old left-hander finishes the season with a 2-1 record, 6.29 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB in just seven major-league starts covering 34.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Pulled off rehab assignment
Lodolo (tibia) has officially been pulled off his rehab assignment, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Lodolo suffered another stress reaction in his left tibia during his third rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, which is the same injury that has kept him out for the bulk of the season. While no timetable has been established, it seems unlikely at this point that he'll be able to make it back before the end of the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Suffers setback with left tibia
Lodolo was diagnosed Tuesday with another stress reaction in his left tibia and is out indefinitely, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Lodolo suffered the setback while making his third minor-league rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Louisville, and it's the same exact injury that has kept him on the shelf since early May. He's seeking a second medical opinion and the Reds aren't commenting further, but the 25-year-old southpaw now seems questionable to return to the major-league rotation before the end of the 2023 regular season.... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Hits 61 pitches in rehab start
Lodolo (tibia) tossed 2.1 innings and struck out three while giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Louisville. After covering three scoreless innings in the second start of his rehab assignment Aug. 15, Lodolo retired two fewer hitters Sunday but still threw 12 more pitches (61, 34 for strikes) than he had in his previous outing (49). The Reds would have likely wanted to see a more efficient performance from Lodolo, but the young lefty might have done enough to make his next start with the big club. With a postponement Monday creating a doubleheader Wednesday, the Reds are beginning a stretch of six games in five days, and the pitching-strapped club could be willing to bring Lodolo back from the 60-day injured list later this week even though he's not yet fully stretched out for a traditional starter's workload. If the Reds opt against activating Lodolo this week, he would likely need just one more rehab start before getting cleared to rejoin the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Aces second rehab start
Lodolo (tibia) struck out six over three scoreless innings while making his second rehab start Tuesday at Double-A Chattanooga. He allowed no hits and walked two in the 49-pitch appearance. Lodolo has now allowed just one hit while striking out 10 across five innings through two rehab starts, the first of which came last week in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The southpaw took the hill Tuesday on three days' rest, but he'll receive the standard four days off before making his next start Sunday at Triple-A Louisville, per MLB.com. If Lodolo is able to build up his pitch count into the 60-75 range Sunday, he could return from the 60-day injured list to make his next start with the Reds during the team's series in Arizona the following weekend.... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Moves rehab to Double-A
Lodolo (lower leg) shifted his rehab assignment Tuesday from the Arizona Complex League to Double-A Chattanooga. Lodolo looked sharp in his rehab debut this past Friday in the rookie-level ACL, striking out four of the seven batters he faced across two scoreless innings. Out since early May because of a stress reaction in his left tibia, the 25-year-old southpaw is currently trending toward a late-August return to the Cincinnati rotation. Hunter Greene (hip) is also making progress on the farm.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Possible waiver wire pickups
It's kind of refreshing how rostered Lodolo has remained even while being out since early May with a stress reaction in his leg and even after struggling so badly in his seven starts. But it goes to show you how desperate Fantasy teams are for quality pitching, which is also why the other 40 percent of CBS Sports leagues should take note that he's gearing up to return. He began a rehab assignment Friday, striking out four over two scoreless innings in Rookie ball. But wait, isn't he likely to do more harm than good when he returns? True, he was getting burned by the long ball early on, but he was still throwing tons of strikes and getting tons of whiffs. Particularly after all this time to regroup and recollect, he has a good chance of living up to the preseason hype still.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Rehabbing in rookie ball
Lodolo (lower leg) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday. Lodolo will begin rehabbing in rookie ball before progressing his way up the minors. The 25-year-old lefty put up a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over 34.1 innings across seven starts and is expected to return to the Reds' rotation before the end of August.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Return date moved up
Lodolo (lower leg) threw a side session Friday and is now targeting a return in late August, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Reds manager David Bell had previously suggested Lodolo wouldn't be an option for the big-league club until September. However, the lefty has already shed his walking boot and had his estimated return date moved up. Lodolo still has hurdles to clear before he heads out on a rehab assignment, but teammate Hunter Greene (hip) is targeting an Aug. 20 return and it sounds like Lodolo won't be far behind.... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Likely out until September
Lodolo (lower leg) is not expected to be an option for the Reds until September, MLB.com reports. Lodolo did throw a bullpen session Tuesday, which was the first time he's thrown off a mound since he went down with a left tibia stress reaction in early May. He's just now ramping back up after a long layoff, though, and it's going to take a while to rebuild stamina. "That's kind of how I've been thinking about it. It's a little bit tough because there hasn't been a calendar yet," Bell said earlier in July when asked if September was a realistic return date for Lodolo. "That seems right to me."... See More ... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Out of boot
Lodolo (lower leg) shed his walking boot and is playing catch, MLB.com reports. Lodolo had been throwing from a stool before removing the boot and is now on his feet playing catch. The left-hander arrived at Cincinnati's training complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) on July 3 to begin a throwing program. Reds manager David Bell said Lodolo is taking it slow and will likely return some time after fellow starter Hunter Greene (hip), who is expected to be activated in early August.... See More ... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Transferred to 60-day IL
Cincinnati transferred Lodolo (leg) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Lodolo remains in a protective walking boot more than two weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left tibia. The move to the 60-day IL means he'll be out until at least mid-July.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Scratched from Saturday's start
Lodolo has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday in Miami and will return to Cincinnati to receive further evaluation of his lingering ankle/calf injury, Jim Day of Bally Sports Cincinnati reports. According to Day, Lodolo's injury has bothered him off and on since spring training and initially resulted in the Reds pushing his start back from Thursday to Saturday. With Lodolo continuing to experience discomfort despite getting an extra two days of rest, he'll now get a checkup as the Reds look to glean more information on the extent of the injury. Levi Stoudt was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Louisville on Friday and is en route to Miami, so he would presumably be in line to make a spot start in place of Lodolo on Saturday if he arrives at the ballpark with enough time to warm up prior to the game's 1:10 p.m. ET start time.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Confirmed to start Saturday
Lodolo (calf) is listed as the Reds' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Marlins. Lodolo had been in line to start Thursday's series finale with the Mets at Great American Ball Park, but he'll instead make his next turn through the rotation in Miami after the Reds opted to push him back two days in the pitching schedule while he managed a sore left calf. Provided Lodolo doesn't have any setbacks while he likely throws a bullpen session Thursday, he shouldn't face any restrictions Saturday as he prepares for his eighth start of the 2023 campaign.... Reds' Nick Lodolo: Gets pulled early
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 3.2 innings against the White Sox. He struck out three. Lodolo was unable to make it through the fourth inning Saturday, marking his shortest outing of the season. Once again, he was plagued by the long ball, giving up solo homers to Hanser Alberto and Seby Zavala prior to exiting. Lodolo has now given up multiple home runs in four straight starts while only pitching more than five frames once in seven appearances. Though Lodolo has shown excellent strikeout stuff (12.32 K/9), his fantasy value is capped by his pitiful 2.64 HR/9 and 6.29 ERA.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Strikes out seven
Lodolo allowed three runs on five hits over five-plus innings during Sunday's loss to Oakland. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision. Lodolo was in line for his third win before the Reds' bullpen coughed up the lead. It was his first start of the year without issuing a walk, and he improved his season K:BB to 44:9 through 30.2 frames. Lodolo was once again cursed by the long ball Sunday; the three runs against him came on two homers, including Jesus Aguilar's two-run shot in the first inning. Lodolo didn't allow a home run in his first two starts but has been taken deep eight times in his last four outings.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Strikes out six in no-decision
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings in a 7-6 victory over Texas. He struck out six. After being spotted a one-run lead in the first inning, Lodolo was tagged for three runs in the second, two runs in the third and one run in the fourth, but he was let off the hook for the loss after the Reds made a late-inning comeback. The left-hander has allowed six-plus runs in back-to-back starts, but he still has a strong 37:9 K:BB through 25.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Struggles in loss
Lodolo (2-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Rays, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and one walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. Lodolo had no answer for the Rays on Tuesday, allowing 12 hits, including three home runs, en route to his first loss of the season. The young left-hander's ERA ballooned from 2.12 to 4.98 after the rough outing. Lodolo has a 31:7 K:BB and 1.71 WHIP through 21.2 innings this season. He's currently lined up to make his next start at home against Texas, where he'll look to get back on track.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Punches out career-high 12
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings against the Phillies. He struck out 12. The bullpen squandered the lead in the ninth, but Lodolo was at his most dominant yet as a big leaguer. He set the tone early, striking out the side in the first inning, and finished with 20 called strikes and 15 swinging strikes on 106 total pitches. Lodolo talked after his first start about how his changeup was coming along, and it's looking like a real weapon for him to complement his fastball and stellar curveball. The lefty has a 1.50 ERA and 21:4 K:BB through two starts (12 innings).... See More ... See Less
