The Athletics optioned Pereda to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
The Athletics are swapping out Pereda for Willie MacIver as the backup to Shea Langeliers. Pereda received 42 plate appearances this season and slashed .167/.286/.194 with one extra-base hit, two RBI, two runs scored and a 6:13 BB:K. MacIver brings a little more thump with the bat.

Lopez is expected to start Friday against the Phillies, as J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) recently landed on the 15-day injured list. Lopez made a spot start against the Rangers back on April 29, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks across 2.2 innings of work. He struck out four and took the loss. Lopez could make multiple starts for the Athletics while Ginn is sidelined.

The Athletics are swapping out Jhonny Pereda for MacIver as the backup catcher. Athletics' Zack Gelof: Moved to 60-day IL
The Athletics transferred Gelof (wrist/ribs) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Gelof will vacate his spot on the 40-man roster in a purely transactional move, as the second baseman has been sidelined since March 26. Gelof had been recovering from surgery on his right wrist but got pulled from his rehab assignment May 5 after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his ribs. The 25-year-old remains without a timetable for return.

One of the organization's top prospects, the runway has been cleared for Clarke to take over centerfield duties for the Athletics after JJ Bleday was sent down to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Clarke has slashed .286/.436/.419 with zero home runs, 21 RBI, 25 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 17.3 percent walk rate across 133 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Set for promotion
The Athletics are expected to call up Clarke from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Clarke is among the organization's top prospects, and his status has risen quickly within the last year after he made a mechanical adjustment at the plate. While he's played in a hitter-friendly environment in Las Vegas this season, Clarke has struck out at a modest 22 percent clip while walking in 18 percent of his plate appearances and providing a .300/.449/.440 slash line with seven stolen bases. His power may not immediately translate to the majors, but he has elite speed and is an above-average defender in center field. His arrival to the big leagues could result in the struggling JJ Bleday moving into a fourth-outfielder role.

Rooker went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double in Thursday's 10-5 loss to the Angels.
Rooker opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run, 440-foot blast off Tyler Anderson, his 11th homer of the year. It's the first long ball in 10 games for Rooker, who'd gone just 6-for-38 (.158) in that span. He's now slashing .245/.313/.456 with 25 RBI, 31 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 224 plate appearances this year.

Urshela suffered the injury Thursday against the Angels, and the team wasted little time in making a determination about his status. Severino did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Angels. He allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out five across six innings.
It's the second straight quality start for Severino, though the right-hander still doesn't have a win since April 19, as the A's bullpen would cough up eight runs after Severino departed. Overall, the 31-year-old is 1-4 with a 4.11 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 50:20 K:BB through 11 starts (65.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to face the Astros on the road in his next outing.

The severity of Urshela's injury remains unknown, but the A's should provide more details relatively soon. The 33-year-old lost his grip on the starting third base job earlier this month and is slashing just .224/.276/.337 across 107 plate appearances in 2025.
