  • Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Agrees to deal with Colorado

Beeks signed a one-year, $1.675 million contract with the Rockies on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Beeks was claimed off waivers from the Rays earlier this month and is now locked into a guaranteed salary for the 2024 season. The 30-year-old left-hander holds a career 4.38 ERA with 274 strikeouts in 277.2 major-league innings and seems likely to operate in a swingman role with his new club.

  • Rockies' Tommy Doyle: Designated for assignment

Doyle was designated for assignment Friday.

The move clears a spot on the Rockies' 40-man roster for the addition of Cal Quantrill. Doyle has collected an 8.31 ERA over 18 relief appearances at the major-league level. He has struck out 181 over 161.2 frames in the minors, so perhaps he'll draw some interest on waivers.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Acquired by Rockies via trade

The Rockies acquired Quantrill from the Guardians in exchange for Kody Huff on Friday.

Quantrill had been designated for assignment by Cleveland earlier in the week but quickly landed in another organization, and he should slide right into Colorado's rotation. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 5.24 ERA and 58:35 K:BB over 99.2 innings in 2023 but boasted a career 3.54 ERA coming into last season. Quantrill is a sensible addition by the Rockies, but landing in Colorado virtually eliminates whatever fantasy appeal he might have had in 2024.

  • Rockies' Geoff Hartlieb: Inks minors deal with Colorado

Hartlieb signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Monday.

Hartlieb spent the large majority of the 2023 campaign with the Triple-A affiliate of the Marlins in Jacksonville, where he posted a 3.63 ERA and 46:18 K:BB across 44.2 innings. The 29-year-old righty has logged only nine relief appearances at the major-league level since the beginning of the 2021 season, but he could factor into Colorado's bullpen mix in 2024.

  • Rockies' Angel Chivilli: Selected to 40-man roster

The Rockies selected Chivilli to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

Chvilli posted an underwhelming 5.61 ERA in 61 innings of relief this past season between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford, but he is only 21 years old and is now protected from selection in next month's Rule 5 Draft.

  • Rockies' Juan Mejia: Added to 40-man roster

Mejia's contract was selected by the Rockies on Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

A 23-year-old relief pitching prospect, Mejia split the 2023 season between High-A and Double-A, totaling 58.2 innings and 86 strikeouts while notching one save at each stop. He added another 16 strikeouts and three saves in 8.1 innings in the Arizona Fall League. Now that he is on the 40-man roster, a 2024 debut in the majors is a possibility.

  • Rockies' Yanquiel Fernandez: Added to 40-man

The Rockies selected Fernandez to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

Fernandez, 20, put up a .799 OPS with 25 home runs and 92 RBI over 117 games this past season between Low-A Fresno, High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford. The young outfielder is now protected from selection in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

  • Rockies' Adael Amador: Grabs spot on 40-man

The Rockies selected Amador to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

One of the top prospects in the Rockies' system, Amador slashed .287/.380/.495 with 12 homers and 15 steals over 69 minor-league games in 2023. The 20-year-old infielder finished the season at the Double-A level and could push to make his MLB debut in the second half of the 2024 campaign.

  • Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Lands in Colorado

The Rockies claimed Beeks off waivers from the Rays on Monday.

Though a Tampa Bay organization overflowing with capable relief arms didn't have room for him on its 40-man roster, Beeks could have more staying power with the Rockies, whose relievers ranked last in baseball with a 5.41 ERA in 2023. The 30-year-old southpaw turned in a bloated 5.95 ERA of his own in 42.1 innings in the majors this past season, but most of his underlying statistics painted a more encouraging picture of his performance (3.58 xERA, 4.26 SIERA, 13.5 K-BB%).

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Outrighted to Albuquerque

The Rockies sent Rolison (undisclosed) outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Rolison missed nearly all of last season due to injury, pitching just five innings with Albuquerque across two starts and giving up seven runs in the process. The 26-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched a full season since 2021, and he'll likely need to improve upon his 6.57 ERA at Triple-A before reclaiming a spot on Colorado's 40-man roster.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Outrighted to Albuquerque

The Rockies sent Kauffmann outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

After clearing outright assignment waivers, Kauffmann will officially remain in the Rockies' farm system without the benefit of a 40-man roster spot. Kauffmann struggled mightily in the majors this season to the tune of an 8.23 ERA across 35 innings. The 26-year-old righty will likely need to show significant improvement with Albuquerque before he gets another opportunity in the big leagues.

  • Rockies' Matt Koch: Outrighted to Triple-A

Koch went unclaimed off waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Koch split time between Colorado and Albuquerque in 2023, turning in better numbers at the major-league level with a 5.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 38.2 innings. Koch will have the right to elect free agency during the offseason, and he figures to at least draw a minor-league deal for 2024 if he choses to leave the Rockies.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Outrighted to Triple-A

Blach went unclaimed off waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Blach posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 74 innings in 2023, and he'll have the opportunity to elect free agency in the offseason. The 32-year-old southpaw holds a 5.66 ERA since 2022, though playing his home games at Coors Field may have contributed to his inflated numbers over the past two seasons.

  • Rockies' Harold Castro: Sent outright to minors

The Rockies sent Castro outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Castro slashed .252/.275/.314 with 31 RBI across 270 plate appearances with the Rockies in 2023, and he will remain in the organization after clearing waivers. Barring a significant turnaround, the 29-year-old infielder seems unlikely to have a significant role with Colorado in 2024.

  • Rockies' Austin Wynns: Removed from 40-man roster

Wynns cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

The Rockies are doing some cleanup on their 40-man roster and Wynns is one of the casualties. He has the ability to become a free agent if he so chooses rather than accept the minor-league assignment.

  • Rockies' Matt Carasiti: Outrighted to Triple-A

Carasiti cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Carasiti is no longer on the Rockies' 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. The right-handed reliever has posted a 6.89 ERA over 46 appearances across parts of three major-league seasons.

  • Rockies' Connor Seabold: Throws four innings

Seabold allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over four innings in Sunday's win against the Twins. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision,

Seabold coughed up two runs in the second inning before turning in three scoreless frames. He entered the contest after Brent Suter threw one inning as the opener. Seabold yielded 13 runs over 9.2 MLB innings after the calendar turned to August and ended his 2023 campaign with a 7.52 ERA across 87.1 frames.
