Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Cracks Opening Day roster
Sanoja made the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Sanoja made his major-league debut for the Marlins in 2024 and appeared in 15 regular-season games. Jesus Sanchez (side) is beginning the season o the injured list, and Sanoja's ability to play multiple positions helped him earn a roster spot as a super-utility player. Sanoja finished spring training with a .297/.381/.378 slash line with five walks, eight runs scored and seven RBI across 42 plate appearances.

Marlins' Seth Martinez: Loses roster spot
The Marlins designated Martinez for assignment Wednesday.
After being claimed off waivers from the Mariners on March 15, Martinez's stay on Miami's 40-man roster lasted less than two weeks with the Marlins swapping him out for right-hander Tyler Phillips, whom the team acquired from the Phillies on Wednesday. Martinez spent most of the 2024 season in the majors with Houston, serving in a middle-relief role while logging a 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 36:18 K:BB while collecting three wins, three holds and one save over 52.2 innings.

Marlins' Tyler Phillips: Heading to Miami
The Marlins acquired Phillips from the Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Phillips doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so he will report to the big club and will be part of the Marlins' Opening Day roster. While Phillips may work out of the Miami bullpen initially, he'll likely be in the mix for starts at some point, given that the team's rotation depth has already been tested by spring injuries to Ryan Weathers (forearm) and Edward Cabrera (finger). Over eight appearances (seven starts) for the Phillies in 2024, Phillips submitted a 6.87 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB.

Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Makes Miami rotation
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Tuesday that Bellozo will be part of the team's Opening Day rotation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Bellozo was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville earlier this month, but the Marlins are in need of reinforcements with Ryan Weathers (forearm) and Edward Cabrera (blister) going down. The 25-year-old Bellozo managed a 3.67 ERA for Miami last season, but that came with a 5.72 FIP. His leash in the role will be short.

Marlins' Eric Wagaman: Could benefit from Norby injury
Wagaman could be in store for steady playing time at third base or designated hitter to begin the season after manager Clayton McCullough announced Tuesday that Connor Norby (oblique) will be out for about four weeks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Norby's injury will likely pave the way for Graham Pauley to make the Opening Day roster as an extra infielder, but De Nicola relays that the Marlins are likely to lean primarily on Wagaman and Jonah Bride at the third base and DH spots early on. After making his MLB debut with the Angels late last season, the 27-year-old Wagaman was non-tendered in November before signing a one-year deal with Miami. He earned his spot on the Marlins' 26-man active roster after producing a .738 OPS over 53 plate appearances in Grapefruit League play.

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Likely to make Opening Day roster
Pauley is expected to land the final position player roster spot for the Marlins due to the fact Connor Norby (oblique) is slated for a stint on the 10-day injured list, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Pauley was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville earlier this month, but he has already rejoined the Marlins in Miami for their exhibition game versus the Yankees on Tuesday and is getting the start at third base. He could see some action at the hot corner while Norby misses the next four weeks. Eric Wagaman and Jonah Bride are also candidates to fill in at third base.

Marlins' Connor Norby: Out four weeks with oblique strain
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Tuesday that Norby will be sidelined four weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 left oblique strain, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Norby suffered the injury during Grapefruit League play Saturday. With Norby unavailable for the first month or so of the season, the Marlins could use a combination of Eric Wagaman, Jonah Bride and Graham Pauley at third base.

Marlins' Kyle Stowers: Earns spot on Opening Day roster
Stowers has been informed that he's made Miami's Opening Day roster, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
Stowers has been in a battle with Griffin Conine for the starting job in left field during spring training, and while the team has yet to officially announce the starter, Stowers now knows he'll at least make the big-league team out of camp. The club could provide an additional update on the status of the job in left field at some point over the next few days.

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Set for sim game Wednesday
Cabrera (blister) will throw a bullpen session Monday ahead of a simulated game Wednesday, Justin Morris of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander last pitched in a Grapefruit League game March 13 before being shut down due to a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Cabrera is aiming for a mid-April return to the rotation, and he likely won't need too many outings to build back up for the regular season -- he threw 51 pitches, albeit only 24 of them for strikes, on March 7 in the spring start prior to developing the blister.
