Three members of Washington's second unit dropped 15 points or more on a night in which the Wizards' bench out-scored their Hornets counterparts 72-23. Gallinari hadn't scored in double digits since Opening Night, managing a total of 23 points in the five games between his offensive outbursts, and he'd also failed to make a single three-pointer during that slump. After missing all of last season while recovering from an ACL tear, the 35-year-old may still be shaking off the rust, but Wednesday's performance was an encouraging sign.

Gallinari was a spark off the bench for Washington in Tuesday's blowout victory to begin the preseason, finishing second on the bench in scoring while connecting on a trio of threes in 16 minutes. Gallinari enters his first season in Washington this year, likely taking over a key bench spot for the Wizards in his 14th NBA campaign.
Gallinari (knee) is open to playing some center for the Wizards this season, Chris Crouse of Forty Eight Minutes reports.
Gallinari is coming off a major knee surgery, but there's been no talk of limitations at training camp, which is a positive sign. With Daniel Gafford sidelined for 2-4 weeks with an elbow issue, Gallinari's versatility could be very useful to the Wizards at the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign.
Gallinari was shipped to the Wizards on Wednesday as part of a three-team trade involving Kristaps Porzingis, Marcus Smart and Tyus Jones. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
After opting into his player option last week, Gallinari is headed to Washington as part of the blockbuster trade. He is joined by Tyus Jones and Mike Muscala as newcomers to the Wizards roster. After missing the entire 2022-23 season due to a torn ACL in his left knee it's likely that Gallinari will make a full recovery and be good to go for the 2023-24 campaign. However, it's unclear where the soon-to-be-35-year-old will fit in on a Wizards team that appears to be embracing a rebuild. Gallinari's contract is set to expire after this season, so it's very possible that Washington facilitates a trade to send the Italian wing to a more appealing situation.
