Magic's Markelle Fultz: Will be rested Wednesday
Fultz has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Knicks due to left knee injury maintenance.
Fultz will be sidelined for the second leg of a back-to-back set while Orlando continues to take precautions with him following his return in early January from an extended absence due to the left knee injury. He's coming off a tough showing in Tuesday's 127-113 loss to the Thunder, as he was held to four points (2-5 FG), seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in 18 minutes. Cole Anthony is likely to see more minutes as a result of Fultz's absence Wednesday.... See More ... See Less
Magic's Markelle Fultz: Solid showing in Tuesday's loss
Fultz finished Tuesday's 121-95 loss to Miami with 13 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, four assists, one block and one steal in 28 minutes.
Amazingly, the three-pointer was his first make of the season in 18 games. Fultz appears to be rounding into form, although the Magic continue to keep a careful eye on his workload. The 25-year-old has started seven of the last nine games, resting in the other two, and over that stretch, he's averaging 11.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.0 boards and 1.7 steals over 25.9 minutes a contest while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor.... Fultz played 27 minutes during Sunday's win over Phoenix, posting 14 points, four assists and five steals. Anthony Black will likely draw a spot start versus Dallas.... See More ... See Less
Magic's Markelle Fultz: Questionable for Monday
Fultz is listed as questionable ahead of Monday's game against the Mavericks due to left knee injury maintenance.
Monday marks the second half of a back-to-back set for the Magic, so Fultz's appearance on the injury report comes as no major surprise as he continues to work his way back to full form after he was sidelined for a stretch of 27 consecutive games earlier this season. The point guard has started in each of his last three appearances and turned in his finest appearance of that stretch during the Magic's 113-98 win over the Suns on Sunday, when he recorded 14 points (7-10 FG), five steals, four assists and two rebounds. If Fultz ends up being held out Monday, Jalen Suggs would likely see more time in an on-ball role, while Anthony Black and Cole Anthony would presumably be in store for increased minutes out of the backcourt.... Magic's Markelle Fultz: Wayward shooting in return
Fultz (knee) tallied zero points (0-2 FG, 0-4 FT), four assists, two rebounds and one steal across 15 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 117-110 win over the Hawks.
Orlando was without five rotation players Sunday due to injury, but the return of Fultz from a 27-game absence due to left knee tendinitis helped restore some depth in the backcourt. After starting in each of his prior five appearances this season before missing time with the injury, Fultz was eased back into the rotation in a bench role and was on a 12-to-16-minute restriction. The 25-year-old was able to provide some playmaking to the second unit, but the ugly shooting performance -- particularly from the free-throw line -- limited his overall impact. Given the length of his absence, Fultz could continue to play off the bench and may be subject to a minute restriction for several more games, even while the Magic are less than full strength.... Magic's Markelle Fultz: Officially active Sunday
Fultz (knee) is available to play Sunday against the Hawks and will come off the bench while facing a 12-to-16-minute restriction.
Fultz is cleared to return following a 27-game absence due to left knee tendinitis. His minutes restriction could be in place for a week or longer to increase his chances of avoiding a setback with his knee, which he had surgically repaired in January 2021. His return will cut into playing time for Anthony Black (illness), but it's unclear how the Magic will address the backcourt minutes share for Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony and Gary Harris as Fultz ramps up, given that Fultz is arguably the worst shooter of the four....
