  • Wizards' AJ Johnson: Available to debut Friday

Johnson (recently traded) has been upgraded to available for Friday's game against Cleveland. Johnson was initially listed as out for Friday's contest after being traded to Washington on Wednesday. However, the rookie first-rounder will make his Wizards debut, though there is no guarantee that he'll receive significant playing time, even with Malcolm Brogdon (foot) and Marcus Smart (not injury related) on the shelf.

  • Wizards' AJ Johnson: Won't debut for Washington Friday

Johnson (recently traded) has been ruled out for Friday's game against Cleveland. Johnson will have to wait to make his Wizards debut, and his next chance to feature will come Saturday against the Hawks. The rookie first-rounder saw the majority of his playing time in the G League for the Bucks, though this trade to the Wizards will likely present him with more opportunities to see action at the NBA level.

  • Wizards' AJ Johnson: Heads to D.C.

The Wizards acquired Johnson, forward Khris Middleton (ankles) and a 2028 first-round pick swap from the Bucks on Wednesday in exchange for forwards Kyle Kuzma and Patrick Baldwin and a 2025 second-round draft pick, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Johnson, the No. 23 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, had struggled to carve out playing time in Milwaukee this season, making just seven appearances for the Bucks while seeing the bulk of his playing time in the G League. The move from a playoff-contending Bucks squad to a rebuilding Wizards team should present more opportunities for the 20-year-old guard, though he may still find himself outside of the rotation when Washington is at full strength. Johnson had averaged 13.4 points, 4.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 three-pointers and 1.0 steals in 28.6 minutes per game while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range over his 25 appearances in the G League for the Wisconsin Herd.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Productive in extended minutes

Johnson registered 13 points (5-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 29 minutes during Monday's 125-96 loss to the Thunder. The 23rd overall pick in the 2024 draft saw a significant role for the first time in his career with the Bucks holding out multiple key starters on the second night of a back-to-back set, and Johnson was able to deliver solid numbers. Milwaukee isn't going to rush the raw 20-year-old, and a return to the G League is likely in order once Damian Lillard (groin) is cleared. Still, it's encouraging that Johnson was able to take advantage of his first real NBA opportunity.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Available Tuesday

Johnson (Achilles) is listed as available for Tuesday's game against the Heat. Johnson is available to play Tuesday while dealing with left Achilles tendinitis. However, he likely won't see significant minutes as he's averaged only 2.0 minutes per game across four regular-season outings.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Probable for Tuesday

Johnson (Achilles) is probable for Tuesday's game against the Heat. Johnson has yet to play more than three minutes in an NBA contest this season, so the rookie guard remains off the fantasy radar in most formats.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Returns from G League

Milwaukee recalled Johnson from the G League's Wisconsin Herd on Tuesday. Johnson joined the Herd for their game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Tuesday, finishing with 14 points (7-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 0-1 FT), five rebounds, four assists and one block in 30 minutes. He'll be available for the NBA club for Wednesday's game against the Bulls but isn't expected to be part of Milwaukee's rotation.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Provides 13 points off the bench

Johnson tallied 13 points (5-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt), four rebounds and three assists across 22 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 loss to the Lakers. Johnson elected to play in Australia rather than commit to Texas, and despite shaky results down under, the Bucks were impressed enough with his work at the combine. Johnson is likely headed to Milwaukee's G League team as a project for the future. He has a lot of raw talent, but his thin and wary frame needs some development. Still, there's merit to Milwaukee's pick when you consider the aging group of guards ahead of him. Giannis Antetokounmpo may find himself without a supporting cast in a few years if he chooses to stay in Milwaukee, and a promising guard who is a couple of years from full-time play fits well with the team's long-term future.

  • Bucks' AJ Johnson: Surprising pick at No. 23 to Bucks

Johnson was selected with the No. 23 pick by the Bucks in the 2024 NBA Draft. Often placed in the late second round in mock drafts, Johnson is a shocking pick by the Bucks at No. 23, even in a relatively weak and open draft. After being a four-star recruit in high school, Johnson participated in the Australian NBL's Next Stars program last year and averaged 2.9 points in 7.7 minutes with the Illawarra Hawks. The 6-foot-4 guard is clearly raw, but he's shown flashes as a quick, scoring combo guard. It's unclear if he'll even be in Milwaukee's rotation, but if he is, it will be as a sparkplug off the bench.
