Saints' Derek Carr: Officially doubtful, won't start
Carr (head/hand) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Carr hasn't practiced this week, and while it's possible he clears concussion protocol by Sunday, the Saints have already named Jake Haener as their Week 15 starter. If anything, Carr likely would just be available as the emergency No. 3 QB, behind both Haener and Spencer Rattler.

Saints' Derek Carr: Stays sidelined at practice
Carr (hand/concussion) was a non-participant at practice Thursday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Carr emerged from Week 14 action with a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand and a concussion, which so far have kept him out of drills this week. The Saints haven't officially ruled out Carr for Sunday's game versus the Commanders, but interim coach Darren Rizzi revealed Wednesday that Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler are the candidates to get the start, and a decision will be made by Friday, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. As for Carr himself, the Saints may make a ruling on his status as soon as they post their final injury report of the week.

Saints' Derek Carr: No practice Wednesday
Carr (hand/concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Carr fractured his left hand in this past Sunday's win over the Giants and also entered the concussion protocol afterward. As of Wednesday, he's still dealing with swelling in his non-throwing hand, and interim head coach Darren Rizzi considers Carr's situation to be "day-to-day, week-to-week," per Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Both Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler took first-team reps at Wednesday's practice, and an announcement on which of the two will be the Saints' starting quarterback in place of Carr on Sunday versus the Commanders is expected to be made by Friday, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.

Saints' Derek Carr: Week-to-week, won't go on IR
Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said Monday that Carr (hand) is considered week-to-week due to his hand fracture and is not expected to be placed on IR, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Rizzi also relayed that Carr is in the NFL's concussion protocol.
Rizzi noted the fracture to Carr's left, non-throwing hand currently doesn't appear as though it will require surgery, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. The interim head coach also said it's possible that Carr could start Sunday's game against the Commanders even if he's unable to practice this week, per Sean Fazende of Fox 8 New Orleans. It would be a tall task, though, for the veteran signal-caller to both clear the five-step concussion protocol fully and reach a level of comfort with his injured hand to handle full contact and play Week 15. If Carr isn't able to suit up versus Washington, starting duties will fall to one of Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler.

Saints' Derek Carr: To miss multiple weeks
Carr is believed to have suffered a fracture in his left non-throwing hand during Sunday's 14-11 win, an injury that will likely force him to miss multiple games, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The Saints haven't yet officially disclosed the severity of Carr's injury or ruled him out to play Week 15 against the Commanders, but it appears the timing of the veteran quarterback's injury could put him in danger of missing the remainder of the regular season. Rapoport reports that New Orleans may opt not to place Carr on IR, allowing him a chance to recover in time to retake the field this season. In any case, it appears that the Saints will have to pivot to either Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler under center for the immediate future.

Saints' Derek Carr: May have broken left hand
Carr may have suffered a broken left hand during Sunday's 14-11 win at the Giants, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
Carr sustained at least a hand injury when he attempted to leap over teammate Kevin Austin and a Giants defender in the fourth quarter, taking a hard landing to his upper body in the process. Coach Darren Rizzi told Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football afterward that Carr may also be in the concussion protocol, but it was too early to know for sure. In any case, Carr could be in danger of missing time, and if he does, Jake Haener likely would be lined up to start next Sunday against the Commanders, with recent emergency third quarterback Spencer Rattler jumping into the backup role.
