  • Saints' Derek Carr: Solid numbers in return

Carr completed 18 of 31 passes for 236 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Saints' 23-22 loss to the Panthers on Sunday. Carr was making his return from a three-game absence due to an oblique injury and put together a reasonably efficient performance despite losing Chris Olave to a concussion in the first quarter. The veteran signal-caller adjusted well and leaned heavily on Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill, who accounted for one-third of Carr's completions and 101 of his passing yards. However, Carr's one touchdown pass went to Foster Moreau, who made an acrobatic 17-yard catch in the back of the end zone early in the fourth quarter. Carr threw two incomplete passes and took a sack on the Saints' final drive, but despite the disappointing conclusion Sunday, he'll head into a Week 10 home matchup against the Falcons with some momentum stemming from a solid return to action.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Sleeper QBs

It would be nice for Carr to return in Week 9 at Carolina after missing the past three games with an oblique injury because this is a dream matchup. The Panthers are No. 4 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and five guys have scored at least 23.6 Fantasy points against Carolina this year, including Carr in Week 1 with 27.3. Carr is a great streaming quarterback in Week 9.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Cleared for Week 9

Carr (oblique) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Carolina, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Carr never quite progressed to full practice participation but nonetheless has been cleared to return from a three-game absence. He'll take over a somewhat depleted offense, with WR Rashid Shaheed (knee) out for the season, WR Bub Means (ankle) out for Week 9 and Cedrick Wilson (hip) listed as questionable, not to mention the Saints' continued O-line issues.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Remains limited in practice

Carr (oblique) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Since straining his left oblique Week 5 at Kansas City, Carr has missed three consecutive games and didn't practice until this Wednesday, but he's now cobbled together back-to-back capped sessions. There's an expectation that Carr will return to action Sunday in Carolina, but it remains to be seen how he'll be listed on Friday's injury report, and who else may be available to the offense. Among skill players on the active roster, RB Alvin Kamara remains limited by hand and rib fractures and WRs Bub Means (ankle) and Cedrick Wilson (hip) also are banged-up, but Carr at least will have top WR Chris Olave and TE Juwan Johnson (shoulder) at his services.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Limited in return to practice

Carr (oblique) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice but is still expected to start this Sunday at Carolina, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Head coach Dennis Allen reiterated Wednesday that Carr is likely to return from a three-game absence, after making similar comments Monday. The Saints have lost six straight games while contending with numerous injuries, including three consecutive losses by margins of 18 or more points while Carr was out with the oblique injury. Top wideout Chris Olave is now healthy, but the Saints don't have much else at receiver, with Rashid Shaheed (knee) out for the season and both Bub Means (ankle) and Cedrick Wilson (hip) missing Wednesday's practice and in danger of sitting out Week 9.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Week 9 Waiver Priority List

Carr is expected to return in Week 9 at Carolina, and hopefully, he will have similar success against the Panthers in the rematch like he did in Week 1 when he scored 27.3 Fantasy points. He also has a favorable matchup in Week 10 against Atlanta, and Carr could be a streamer during the bye weeks. He's worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

So I'm on an island with Carr this week, but assuming he plays he's not just an add but he's also a top 12 QB for me. And yes, this has a lot to do with the matchup. Six of eight QBs have scored at least 20 Fantasy points against Carolina and three of the last four have scored at least 27. Carr is averaging a modest 17.6 this season but he has multiple touchdowns in three of five games and he's averaging a very good 7.7 yards per pass attempt.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Expected to return Week 9

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Monday he expects Carr (oblique) to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's divisional contest against the Panthers, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. Carr has missed three straight games due to a left oblique injury, but Allen said he logged another throwing session Monday and expressed optimism about his chances of retaking the field Week 9. Allen also said he expects Carr to be on the practice field Wednesday. Spencer Rattler has been ineffective across his three consecutive appearances, culminating in him getting pulled early from New Orleans' 26-8 loss to the Chargers in Week 8 in favor of Jake Haener finishing out the contest. Getting Carr back under center would promise a notable boost for the Saints offense.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Sitting out Sunday

Carr (oblique) is inactive for Sunday's game at the Chargers, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Carr has been tending to an oblique injury since a Week 5 loss at Kansas City, resulting in three straight absences. He hasn't practiced in the meantime, so his activity level in the coming days may be key for his odds to return to action next Sunday in Carolina. Spencer Rattler will continue to start under center for the Saints in Week 8.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Idle for Thursday's practice

Carr (oblique) didn't participate in practice Thursday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Carr was able to resume throwing earlier this week, but with his left oblique strain continuing to keep him from taking part in practice drills, he's trending toward missing a third straight game Sunday against the Chargers. Rookie Spencer Rattler took reps with the first-team offense Thursday and looks on track to make another start in place of Carr.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Likely back no later than Week 9

Coach Dennis Allen said Friday that Carr (oblique) is "very likely" to be available by Week 9 against the Panthers, but Allen is "not sure" if the quarterback will recover in time to face the Chargers in Week 8, Matthew Paras of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Carr has missed the Saints' last two games, including Thursday's 33-10 loss to the Broncos, which Spencer Rattler (hip) exited in the fourth quarter. If neither Carr nor Rattler can play against the Chargers, Jake Haener would get a chance to make his first NFL start. Per Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, Allen added Friday that Carr plans to resume throwing Saturday, and the team will track the quarterback's progress from there. A clearer picture of Carr's potential availability may surface when the Saints resume practicing leading up to the game versus L.A.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Doubtful for Thursday

Carr (oblique) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against the Broncos, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Carr hasn't been able to practice since he suffered a left oblique strain during a Week 5 loss at Kansas City, but the Saints left the door ajar, however slightly, for him to return to action Thursday. While Carr is most likely to end up inactive for the second game in a row, his status won't be officially confirmed until about 90 minutes before an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff. If Carr misses a second consecutive contest, rookie fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler will get another start under center for New Orleans.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Officially ruled out for Week 6

Carr (oblique) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Carr sustained a left oblique strain in the fourth quarter of this past Monday's loss at Kansas City. After undergoing an MRI on Tuesday, he received a prognosis of multiple weeks, and while an IR stint isn't considered likely, per coach Dennis Allen, this weekend Carr will miss the first of what will likely be numerous games. The Saints are rolling with rookie fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler at quarterback Sunday and perhaps for as long as Carr is sidelined.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Getting MRI on Tuesday

Carr will undergo an MRI on his left oblique Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. The veteran quarterback completed 18 of 28 pass attempts for 165 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 26-13 loss to Kansas City before leaving the game with 9:32 remaining in the fourth quarter. After the game, Carr admitted his condition was "not good," but he said that he will do everything in his power to play in the Saints' Week 6 game against the Buccaneers on Sunday. The MRI should provide a clearer picture of his chances of suiting up. 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener directed the offense for the Saints' final offensive drive Monday and could draw the Week 6 start if Carr is unable to go, with rookie Spencer Rattler also being an option.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Unable to return Monday

Carr (oblique) was unable to return to Monday's 26-13 loss to the Chiefs after injuring his left oblique, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Carr did not feel he could be effective enough to stay in the game, and there was not enough time left for the training staff to manage the issue. He finished the contest completing 18-for-28 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The veteran was replaced under center by Jake Haener. Carr's status for Week 6 against Tampa Bay is seemingly uncertain until more information comes out regarding his injury.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Heads to locker room

Carr is questionable to return to Monday's game against the Chiefs due to an oblique injury. Carr initially went to the injury tent following an offensive drive, and he subsequently left with trainers. Jake Haener immediately began warming up and replaced him under center. It is unclear if Carr will be able to return.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: QBs to Sit

Carr topped 25 Fantasy points in each of his first two games against Carolina and Dallas, but he's been under 10 points in each of his past two outings against Philadelphia and Atlanta. This week, Carr will likely struggle again at Kansas City, and the Chiefs are allowing an average of just 18.7 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, including Kirk Cousins and Justin Herbert each scoring fewer than 14 points in the past two games. Carr is only worth starting in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 5.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Quiet again in loss

Carr completed 28 of 36 passes for 239 yards and an interception in Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Falcons. The Saints did all their scoring on the ground, as Taysom Hill (ribs) punched in two first-half rushing TDs before Alvin Kamara added one late. After an explosive performance against the Panthers in Week 1, Carr has a less impressive 3:3 TD:INT over the last three contests, and he has yet to reach 250 passing yards in a game in 2024. The veteran QB may need to be a lot more productive to keep his team competitive in Week 5 against Kansas City.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Has game-ending interception Week 3

Carr completed 14 of 25 passes for 142 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's 15-12 loss versus the Eagles. The Saints' offense came back down to earth after scoring touchdowns on 11 of their first 21 possessions of the season. This unit was held scoreless until just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, when Carr found wideout Chris Olave open in the left corner of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. The veteran signal-caller then committed the game-sealing mistake on his team's subsequent offensive series, throwing a deep pass while under pressure that resulted in an interception by Eagles safety Reed Blankenship. Carr looked like a renewed player after tossing five touchdowns over the first two weeks of the season, as he spread the ball around to the Saints' talented group of offensive skill players. However, he only found success while targeting Olave and running back Alvin Kamara in Week 3, as he went 5-for-16 on passes to the rest of the team. Carr also came up empty on all five of his passes to deep-threat Rashid Shaheed, who was a crucial part of New Orleans' offense in the first two games, while Taysom Hill was also sidelined with a bruised lung that he sustained during last week's win against Dallas. Carr and the Saints' offense will look to correct things when they next play Sunday, Sept. 29 versus the division-rival Falcons.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: QBs to Start

Carr is the No. 2 Fantasy quarterback this season, and he's averaging 26.6 points per game. He should stay hot against the Eagles in Week 3, and Philadelphia has allowed Jordan Love and Kirk Cousins to combine for 501 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception in two games. It's been fun to watch Carr's start to the 2024 campaign under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and it's time to trust him as a No. 1 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues.
