Player Outlook
Goff is considered a modest breakout candidate by some, but there are some issues. For one thing, he's averaged more than 20 Fantasy points just three times over his seven-year career, and never more than 22.6 points per game. And while the Lions have added some pretty serious talent in the draft over the past two seasons, they've leaned away from being pass-heavy, especially inside the 10-yard line where they've passed on just 42.5% of their plays last year, seventh-fewest in the league. Goff doesn't run much and also doesn't take a lot of chances with the football. Take some caution with Goff, who should be picked after the likes of Daniel Jones, Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford. If he's the 20th quarterback off the board in your league, he's a fair value.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Pair of TDs in high-scoring win

Goff completed 16 of 25 passes for 213 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while netting minus-2 yards on two rush attempts in the Lions' 33-28 win over the Saints on Sunday. Goff had one of his quieter days in a game that had a somewhat unlikely flow to it, with Detroit seeing a big early lead evaporate and doing very little scoring after a 21-point first quarter. Goff was especially effective in that opening period, hitting Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown for touchdown tosses of 13 and 25 yards, respectively. Goff did extend his streak of games with two touchdowns to four, and he's gone interception-free in three contests over that span heading into a Week 14 road divisional matchup against the Bears.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

Goff stumbled his way into 22.2 Fantasy points in Week 12 against the Packers on Thanksgiving. The positive was 332 passing yards and two touchdowns. The negative was three lost fumbles in a 29-22 defeat, but I expect him to perform better in Week 13 at New Orleans. He's been better on the road of late with at least 25.1 Fantasy points in two of his past three away games, and the Saints have some key injuries on defense with pass rusher Cam Jordan (ankle) potentially out and cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ankle) on injured reserve.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Doomed by three fumbles

Goff completed 29 of 44 passes for 332 yards with two touchdowns while adding nine rushing yards on three carries with three lost fumbles during Thursday's 29-22 loss to the Packers. He also completed a pass for a two-point conversion. Entering the contest sitting fifth in passing yards per game (274.3), Goff put together another respectable outing from a statistical perspective while recording his third straight game with multiple passing touchdowns. However, an onslaught of miscues proved too much to overcome for the NFC North leaders, as Goff took three sacks, went 1-for-6 on fourth down, and fumbled three times -- one of which was returned by Green Bay for a touchdown in a one-score game. The entire offense will look for a bounce-back effort during a Week 13 matchup on the road against the Saints.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

Goff only scored 17.7 Fantasy points in Week 11 against Chicago, but he had three interceptions against the Bears, which was the first time all season he had multiple turnovers. I'll go right back to Goff at home against the Packers, who have allowed Kirk Cousins and Justin Herbert to score at least 23.8 Fantasy points in the past four games. Goff scored 21.6 Fantasy points on Thanksgiving last year against the Bills and has 411 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in two Thanksgiving starts for the Lions over the past two seasons.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Overcomes three INTs in Week 11 win

Goff completed 23 of 35 passes for 236 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 31-26 win over the Bears. He added three yards on two rushing attempts. Goff was picked off on Detroit's first two drives, but the Lions got into the end zone on their next two possessions, the latter of which was capped with a seven-yard Goff touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown to put Detroit ahead 14-10. After throwing a third interception in the third quarter, Goff helped the Lions score the final 17 points of the fourth to pull out the win and improve to 8-2. Goff will look to clean up the turnovers at home against the Packers on Thanksgiving.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

Goff had a rare stellar road game in Week 10 at the Chargers with 25.1 Fantasy points, and it might just be time to start him every week, no matter where he plays. At home, he's been a Fantasy star with an average of 24.3 Fantasy points per game in four outings, and I expect him to thrive against the Bears, who allow an average of 21.5 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. In two home games against Chicago as a member of the Lions, Goff is averaging 22.6 Fantasy points, and he has top-five upside in Week 11 based on how he's playing this season.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Tops 300 yards against Bolts

Goff completed 23 of 33 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 41-38 win over the Chargers. The Lions scored three rushing TDs in the first half, but Goff opened things up after halftime, hitting Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 20-yard score in the third quarter and Brock Wright for a 25-yard touchdown midway through the fourth. It's the first time Goff has tossed multiple scores since Week 6, but the 29-year-old QB is now on pace for a new career high in passing yards with 2,507 through nine games. He could be poised for another big performance Week 11 at home against the Bears.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

It sounds a little silly but there's a chance the Lions aren't able to just coast to victory on the strength of their run game. There's a greater chance of this game becoming a high-scoring shootout which would mean better numbers for Goff. Both would be amazing. But the track record of capable quarterbacks against the Chargers sold me on Goff as a must-start Fantasy QB with more upside than anybody this week EXCEPT Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

We have a tough decision to make once again with Goff on the road, but I'm hopeful he'll come off his bye with a strong outing at the Chargers. While the Chargers have shut down the past two opposing quarterbacks in Tyson Bagent and Zach Wilson, holding each to under 12 Fantasy points, five other quarterbacks against this defense have scored at least 23 Fantasy points. Goff has only topped 20 Fantasy points on the road once in four games, but I'm hopeful this game turns into a shootout. I'm going to trust Goff in this spot.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

This is a step-up in competition both for the Ravens and for Goff. It's hard to imagine the Lions run game clicking at Baltimore, so expect volume for Goff, which doesn't guarantee great stats but it certainly doesn't hurt. It does feel like the Lions are due for a let-down game and this spot feels like it. I'll cautiously start Goff over Derek Carr and Brock Purdy but I would chance it with Jordan Love over him. I'd start him over Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott and Trevor Lawrence.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

Road Goff showed up again in Week 7 at Baltimore when he scored a season-low 9.4 Fantasy points, and he has now scored 16.0 points or less in three of four games away from Detroit this year. By comparison, Goff has scored at least 20.0 Fantasy points in all three home games, and he's averaging 27.4 points in Detroit. The Raiders have been great against opposing quarterbacks for the past three weeks, holding Jordan Love, Mac Jones and Tyson Bagent to 14.5 Fantasy points or less. But this is a step up in competition, and Goff should be fine in his own surroundings once again. I like Goff as a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in Week 8.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Ugly effort in Baltimore

Goff completed 33 of 53 passes for 284 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 38-6 loss to Baltimore. Coming off of an efficient road performance against Tampa Bay, Goff struggled mightily in Baltimore and averaged only 5.4 yards per attempt. He was also held without a touchdown for the first time this season. The lone positive to take away is that Goff and the Lions should be in a position to bounce back in Week 8 against the Raiders.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

If the game were in Detroit I wouldn't hesitate to call Goff a must-start. But the Buccaneers defense deserves some credit for holding up against their opponents. Plus, Goff's two big games came against bad secondaries and suspect pass rushes. This one is a little tougher. I think Goff is good enough to start ahead of Trevor Lawrence, Sam Howell and Geno Smith, but I would put Matthew Stafford and Brock Purdy ahead of him.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

The Buccaneers come off their bye in Week 5 looking to remain a tough opponent for opposing quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins (20.5 Fantasy points) in Week 1 and Jalen Hurts (21.9) in Week 3 are the lone quarterbacks to score more than 20 Fantasy points against Tampa Bay, and both barely eclipsed that mark. For the season, the Buccaneers have allowed just four passing touchdowns compared to six interceptions, and now they get Jared Goff on the road. He's scored 16.0 Fantasy points or less in two road games this season at Kansas City and at Green Bay, and he's been under 17.0 Fantasy points in 13 of his past 14 road games going back to 2021. Goff is only worth starting in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 6, especially if Amon-Ra St. Brown (abdomen) remains out.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Accounts for four TDs

Goff completed 20 of 28 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 42-24 win over the Panthers. He also rushed for a one-yard touchdown. Goff turned in his best performance of the season despite not having top target Amon-Ra St. Brown (abdomen) available. The veteran signal-caller found fantastic rookie tight end Sam LaPorta for a pair of first-half scores, with a touchdown to Josh Reynolds sandwiched between. Goff also snuck in for a rushing TD, capping a standout display that included no turnovers. With a trip to Tampa Bay up next, Goff will hope St. Brown and tailback Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) can return to bolster his options in Week 6.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

Any quarterback with upside is a better pick than Goff, who shouldn't have to do too much to help the Lions pull down a win. There will be temptation on his part to test Jameson Williams on deep throws, and no doubt there will be opportunities for Sam LaPorta and Josh Reynolds (and Jahmyr Gibbs, hopefully), but it's more likely Goff has a modest game at home with a couple of scores and maybe 225 yards. I'll give him the nod over Dak Prescott and Joe Burrow, but Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, Josh Dobbs and C.J. Stroud all have more potential to help you win.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: QBs to Start

I'll probably have Goff as a starting option in every home game this year, and he has top-10 upside this week against the Panthers. In nine home games last year, Goff averaged 26.5 Fantasy points per game, and he's averaging 24.5 Fantasy points in two games in Detroit this year. We'll see if Jameson Williams makes a big impact in his 2023 debut, and that's just another weapon for Goff to lean on. No quarterback has topped 17.4 Fantasy points against Carolina because teams have run all over the Panthers, which could happen here. But I'll still take my chances with Goff when he's playing at home.

  • Lions' Jared Goff: Modest output against Packers

Goff completed 19 of 28 passes for 210 yards with one touchdown and one interception during Thursday's 34-20 win over Green Bay. After getting picked off on the third play of the game, Goff rebounded with a quick touchdown drive thanks to a number of big pass plays. Detroit never looked back thereafter, though Goff didn't do much else besides escort David Montgomery up and down the field en route to a three-touchdown performance for the running back. This makes for a third underwhelming fantasy performance in four weeks for Goff, which may not be the production many expected from him after he ended the 2022 campaign with zero picks and five multi-score outings over the final seven weeks. He'll look to rebound in Week 5 as the Lions enter a matchup with Carolina team that will remain without starting cornerback Jaycee Horn (hamstring).
