Player Outlook
Mayfield will be on his fourth team in three years when he suits up for the Buccaneers in Week 1, which he will do as a starter after beating out Kyle Trask for the QB1 job. On the positive side, he has one of the NFL's best wide receiver duos in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at his disposal. The downside is that Mayfield is coming off of the worst year in his career, one that saw him get benched and then cut by the Panthers before the Rams picked him up off the scrap heap. For now, Mayfield should only be rostered in leagues that allow you to start two quarterbacks and he should be viewed as a backup even in those leagues.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Quiet in win over Carolina

Mayfield completed 14 of 29 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 21-18 win over the Panthers. It wasn't a productive day for the 28-year-old quarterback, but he did connect with Mike Evans for the longest TD of the receiver's career, a 75-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter that put Tampa Bay in the lead for good. Mayfield's fantasy ceiling remains low -- he has just one 300-yard game this season, and only one with more than two passing touchdowns -- but given the state of the QB landscape in 2023, his stability has some value heading into a Week 14 matchup with the Falcons that could have a big impact on the NFC South title race.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: QBs to Sit

Mayfield is expected to be OK despite dealing with an ankle injury, but he's not playing at 100 percent. He comes into Week 13 against Carolina having scored fewer than 18 Fantasy points in each of his past two games against San Francisco and Indianapolis, and he has an interception in three outings in a row. While this is a revenge game for Mayfield, the Panthers allow an average of just 15.2 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, and only three quarterbacks this season have scored more than 20 Fantasy points (Jared Goff in Week 5, Tua Tagovailoa in Week 6 and Dak Prescott in Week 11). Kirk Cousins (13.6 Fantasy points in Week 4) and C.J. Stroud (12.9 Fantasy points in Week 8) have struggled against Carolina this season, and I expect Mayfield to have a down game as well.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Listed as full Wednesday

Mayfield (ankle) was a full participant at Wednesday's walkthrough. Mayfield injured his ankle near the end of the Buccaneers' opening possession this past Sunday at Indianapolis, missing two snaps in the process. He was able to play with the ankle heavily taped thereafter on his way to 199 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 20-for-30 passing, three carries for 14 yards and two fumbles (one lost). On Monday, an MRI on Mayfield's ankle returned negative, and as of Wednesday, head coach Todd Bowles told Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site that the quarterback felt much better and was in line to suit up Sunday against the Panthers. With a full listing on the team's first Week 13 practice report, Mayfield appears on pace to do exactly that, but it wouldn't surprise if he endures some on-field restrictions before week's end to manage the issue.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Optimism for Week 13

The Buccaneers are optimistic that Mayfield (ankle) will be able to suit up versus the Panthers on Sunday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Mayfield injured his ankle on a quarterback sneak at the goal line in first quarter of this past Sunday's loss to the Colts, but he missed only a couple snaps before returning to the game. He may be limited in practices leading into the Week 13 matchup with Carolina, but there's reason to be optimistic about his chances of playing. He underwent an MRI on Monday, with negative results confirming he avoided any ligament damage. Mayfield has thrown exactly two passing touchdowns in four of his last five appearances, making him a possible streaming option for fantasy purposes against a lackluster Carolina secondary.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Encouraging MRI results

Coach Todd Bowles said Monday that MRI results on Mayfield's ankle came back negative but that the quarterback is feeling sore after Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Colts, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Mayfield injured his ankle while converting a quarterback sneak on Tampa Bay's opening drive, causing Kyle Trask to fill in for two plays. He ultimately completed 20 of 30 passes for 199 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, plus three carries for 14 yards. Mayfield also fumbled twice, with Indianapolis recovering one. It's encouraging that the veteran quarterback's MRI showed no ligament damage, but it still will be worth monitoring Mayfield's practice status as he works to get healthy in time to face the Panthers in Week 13.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Works through ankle injury Sunday

Mayfield completed 20 of 30 passes for 199 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Buccaneers' 27-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday. He also rushed three times for 14 yards and committed two fumbles, losing one. Mayfield suffered an ankle injury while nearly capping the Buccaneers' seven-minute-plus opening drive with a score on a one-yard quarterback sneak, and he ended up sitting out the next two plays while momentary fill-in Kyle Trask nearly tossed a touchdown to Chris Godwin. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports Mayfield's ankle was heavily taped upon his return for Tampa Bay's next possession, which ended with an interception by Ronnie Harrison. Mayfield went on to author his fourth two-touchdown effort in his last five contests with a pair of scoring tosses to Mike Evans, but he couldn't prevent his team's third straight loss. The veteran signal-caller will look to get Tampa Bay back in the win column in a favorable home matchup versus the Panthers in Week 13.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Sleeper QBs

Mayfield struggled as expected in Week 11 at San Francisco with 12.3 Fantasy points, but prior to that he scored at least 22.3 Fantasy points in three games in a row. He should get back on track in Week 12 against the Colts, who have allowed six quarterbacks to score at least 18.1 Fantasy points this season. The only quarterbacks who failed to top 18 Fantasy points are Ryan Tannehill, P.J. Walker, Bryce Young and Mac Jones.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Stifled by Niners

Mayfield completed 29 of 45 passes for 246 yards and one touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the 49ers.He also gained five rushing yards on three carries and lost a fumble. Mayfield tossed a one-yard TD to Mike Evans late in the second quarter, but he otherwise struggled to get much going against an aggressive San Francisco defense that sacked him four times. The 28-year-old QB had posted a 6:1 TD:INT over his prior three games while facing less daunting opposition, and he'll look to rebound in Week 12 against a Colts squad coming out of its bye having allowed just 10 passing touchdowns in 10 games.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: QBs to Sit

Mayfield has become a solid Fantasy quarterback heading into Week 11 at San Francisco. He's scored at least 22.3 Fantasy points in three games in a row against Buffalo, Houston and Tennessee, and it's been fun to watch. But this is a tough week to trust Mayfield against the 49ers on the road. San Francisco just suffocated Trevor Lawrence for 2.1 Fantasy points, and this improved 49ers pass rush with Chase Young should make Mayfield uncomfortable. He's also dealing with a bad thumb, although he's expected to play through it, but it's just another negative for Mayfield in Week 11. I would only start him in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: No listing Wednesday

Mayfield (thumb) wasn't listed on the Buccaneers' first Week 11 injury report Wednesday. Mayfield suffered a right thumb injury during the tail end of this past Sunday's win against the Titans. On Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Bucs' training staff checked out the appendage and ruled that Mayfield wouldn't miss any practice reps this week. Just two days later, that has come to pass, meaning Mayfield is good to go for Sunday's road matchup with the 49ers, whose defense ranks 15th against the pass (221.4 yards per game).

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Won't miss any practice time

Mayfield (thumb) isn't expected to miss any practice time and is fully on track for Sunday's road matchup against the 49ers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Mayfield injured his right thumb during the fourth quarter of Tampa Bay's win over the Titans in Week 10, but the training staff examined him after the game and found no significant issues. The 2018 first-round pick will need to be at full strength versus San Francisco, a defense that held Trevor Lawrence to 185 yards. no touchdowns and two interceptions and Travis Etienne to just 44 yards from scrimmage. Mayfield has built up some momentum of his own, though, with six touchdowns and just one interception in his last three appearances.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Solid numbers in Week 10 win

Mayfield completed 18 of 29 passes for 278 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Buccaneers' 20-6 win over the Titans on Sunday. He also rushed three times for 12 yards and committed a fumble recovered by Tampa Bay. Mayfield averaged a robust 9.6 yards per attempt and worked around some sacks to deliver another solid fantasy effort. The 2018 first overall pick found Mike Evans and Rachaad White for his two scoring tosses, extending his multi-touchdown streak to three games in the process. Mayfield also exceeded the 270-yard mark for the third time on the campaign, and although he continues to operate with a relatively narrow target pool, he's been a very good fit for coordinator Dave Canales' offense thus far. Mayfield's next assignment will be a stiff test, however, as the Buccaneers travel west to tangle with the 49ers in a Week 11 showdown.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

Mayfield is a solid bet to get you 18 Fantasy points but he doesn't have as much upside as Dobbs. He's completing a career-high 64.9% of his passes and averaging 233 yards per game with a very good 1.4% interception rate. He won't be the reason you win a week, but he can cover Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts and not cost you a week either.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Week 10 Waiver Priority List

Mayfield has scored at least 20 Fantasy points in five of eight games this season, and he only has two outings with fewer than 18.2 Fantasy points this year. He's coming off consecutive games with at least 23 Fantasy points, and I like his matchup in Week 10 against Tennessee. While only two quarterbacks have scored more than 19.1 Fantasy points against the Titans, I expect Mayfield to post another quality stat line in this matchup. He's worth adding for up to 5 percent of your FAB.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Sleeper QBs

Mayfield has been at his best on the road this season with three of his four outings of at least 20.4 Fantasy points having come away from Tampa Bay, including Week 8 at Buffalo when he scored 25.4 points. The Texans have allowed two of the past three opposing quarterbacks to score at least 18.3 Fantasy points, and Mayfield should be able to perform at that level in this matchup on the road. Mayfield should be considered a borderline No. 1 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Sneaky Sleeper (Lineup Decisions)

With the expectation that the Buccaneers won't be effective running the ball, expect Mayfield to have another game throwing plenty of times. That's what separates him from other questionable quarterbacks this week -- Will Levis, Jordan Love and Daniel Jones may not throw as many passes, plus none have the track record that Mayfield has this season. That's why I'd settle on Mayfield over any of them this week.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Full practice Wednesday

Mayfield (knee) practiced fully Wednesday. Mayfield told Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site on Wednesday that he initially banged up his left knee Week 4 at New Orleans and aggravated the injury Week 7 against the Falcons. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Mayfield is dealing with a contusion, but the quarterback relayed that his knee is feeling better by the day, and he intends to play through the injury. Mayfield's activity level to begin Week 9 prep indicates that he's good to go for Sunday's visit to the Texans.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

Mayfield is a serviceable borderline starter just like Minshew. He also faces the Titans in Week 10, so he could be a two-week band-aid. His 89.5 passer rating is his best mark since 2020 and he's thrown at least 37 passes in each of his last three starts due to the woes of the Tampa Bay run game.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Nursing knee contusion

Mayfield has been tending to a left knee contusion, but he plans to play through the injury in the Buccaneers' next game Nov. 5 versus the Texans in Week 9, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The knee issue has presented some discomfort for Mayfield, but it didn't stop him from starting on a short week and completing 25 of 42 pass attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns while adding 19 yards on three carries this past Thursday in the Buccaneers' 24-18 loss to the Bills. The Buccaneers still elected to send Mayfield in for an MRI, but with those tests revealing nothing concerning, the veteran signal-caller doesn't appear in danger of missing any time. With 10 days between their Week 8 and Week 9 game, the Buccaneers are hopeful the mini-bye week will allow Mayfield to heal up a bit and head into the matchup with Houston in better condition than he had been against the Bills.
