  • Raiders' Jaylon Smith: Returns to Las Vegas

Smith agreed to sign a contract with the Raiders on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Smith participated on a tryout basis with Vegas during rookie minicamp this weekend as he looks to restart his career. The linebacker, who turns 30 years old in June, briefly spent time with the Raiders in 2023 and played in one game before he was released in November of that season. He then went unsigned throughout the 2024 campaign. Smith previously played for Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham when he held the same role in 2021, tallying 88 tackles across 13 games. He'll likely need to carve out a role as a depth player at inside linebacker in order to secure a spot with Las Vegas this offseason.

  • Jaylon Smith: Seeking comeback with Vegas

Smith will participate in the Raiders' minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Smith was a tackling machine early in his career, recording between 121 and 154 regular-season stops each year from 2018 to 2020 while with the Cowboys. However, he's found NFL opportunities sparse since then, with his lone notable campaign taking place in 2022, when he played in 13 regular-season contests for the Giants and recorded 88 tackles. The last time Smith played in an NFL game was in 2023, when he logged 25 defensive snaps and made two tackles in one contest with the Raiders.

  • Jaylon Smith: Joins Pittsburgh's practice squad

The Steelers signed Smith to their practice squad Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the the team's official site reports.

An agreement between Pittsburgh and Smith was reported to be in the works Tuesday, and it's now become clear that it's a practice-squad deal. While Smith has played in just one game this season (in Week 9 with the Raiders), he has ample NFL experience, participating in 88 regular-season contests -- including 69 as a starter -- over seven campaigns and making one Pro Bowl appearance. Pittsburgh has already ruled out starting linebacker Elandon Roberts for Sunday's contest against Seattle, so it's feasible that Smith could be elevated to provide depth in that matchup.

  • Raiders' Jaylon Smith: Signs with Las Vegas

The Raiders signed Smith off the Saints' practice squad Thursday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

The 28-year-old was the 34th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and has started 69 of the 87 career games he's played in across six seasons with the Cowboys, Giants and Packers. Three Raiders linebackers -- Divine Deablo (ankle), Luke Masterson (concussion) and Robert Spillane (hand) -- didn't practice Wednesday.

  • Jaylon Smith: Kicked to curb

Smith was released by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

In a very surprising move, Smith has been released after signing with New Orleans on Aug. 10. The veteran linebacker has had stints with Dallas, Green Bay and New York since being picked in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He's appeared in 87 games throughout his eight-year NFL career and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018. Smith will look for a new home ahead of the coming season.

  • Saints' Jaylon Smith: May have secured roster spot

Smith is trending toward making New Orleans' final 53-man roster following Sunday's 17-13 preseason loss to the Texans, according to Luke Johnson of NOLA.com.

Smith tied with rookie linebacker Nephi Sewell for a team-high five tackles Sunday, including a team-high two tackles for loss. The veteran has spent time practicing at all three off-ball linebacker spots since signing with the Saints on Aug. 10, per Johnson, potentially making a valuable backup option behind starters Demario Davis and Pete Werner. Smith's versatility and ability as a playmaker against the run could make him an intriguing fit in New Orleans' linebacker corps this coming season.

  • Saints' Jaylon Smith: Finds new home

Smith signed with the Saints on Thursday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports.

Smith had a solid showing with the Giants last season, appearing in 13 games and making 88 tackles (44 solo). However, he remained a free agent as teams began training camp. After a workout with New Orleans on Thursday, the 28-year-old inked a deal with the team. He'll now work to get acclimated with his new squad and earn a role in the Saints' linebacker corps.
