O'Donnell could be the 49ers' punter for the next four regular-season games due to Mitch Wishnowsky (back) being placed on injured reserve. O'Donnell last saw regular-season action in 2022 with the Packers, during which he averaged 44.5 yards per punt across 17 games.

O'Donnell was brought in to provide San Francisco with a contingency plan at punter with starter Mitch Wishnowsky (back) missing the team's first practice of the week Wednesday. O'Donnell will likely be elevated to the active roster if Wishnowsky cannot play Sunday versus the Seahawks.

O'Donnell reverted to the Falcons' practice squad before being let go by the team Monday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports.
O'Donnell was added to the practice squad and subsequently elevated to the active roster Saturday with Bradley Pinion dealing with an illness. Pinion was able to play Sunday, so O'Donnell's services were not needed and he was inactive for the game. He'll explore his options once he clears waivers.

O'Donnell was cut by the Packers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
After eight seasons in Chicago, O'Donnell headed north to Green Bay in 2022. He netted 38.5 yards per punt and placed 24 kicks inside the 20-yard line during his one Packers campaign. The veteran was competing against Daniel Whelan for punting duties this year and ultimately came up short. He will now look for a fresh start elsewhere.
